Under a tree, Isaac sat and took a look around to see if anything was around him before whispering, "stat screen."
The seconds the followed were some of the most tense he has ever felt that quickly changed to embarrassment at the fact he just called out for a stat screen like a game but that did leave him with the question of how to make his system show, he was hoping that it would come natural to him since he had one but that didn't seen to be the case.
Isaac stood up from the tree and looked around at the place he was brought to. It looked like a forest that surrounds a small opening, and a mountain that borders the edge of the forest.
The first priority would be to find water and hopefully a source of food, and maybe a way to start a fire, but that wasn't a big priority, as he still had his OP, which contained a battery that he was confident he could use to start a fire, but that would be a waste to use. He also still had his school bag, which had a few things that could help, like some of his school books that could be used for a fire, and he also had some of James's old magic textbooks, those would be hard to part with considering his lack of insight on magic, but in the face of death, it was worth it.
The mountain was roughly to the right of him, so he didn't want to go that way due to it most likely being easy to harm yourself there, and could also have a lot of animals there. The place where he first appeared was in the shade of a semi-tall oak tree, so it wouldn't be hard to miss it. As for directions, it would take a while before he could tell what way was north with the help of the sun set to find west as well as the sun rise to find east, and he was sure he could guess north and south from them.
Isaac decided to walk away from the mountain which was also the way he was first facing, as he started walking he took out his phone to check it, he knows the compass on his phone would not work but he was planning to sync up the clock on his phone with sun as well as writing down the date so that he can keep track of the seasons so that he can prepare for winter, luckily this world was merciful and only brought people right at the height of spring so hopefully he could find a monument before one before winter comes round in a bit more than half a year.
After around 2 hours, Isaac paused for a break and thought, 'I could most likely live around 3 days with the water I still have from my water bottle, but I better find a water source soon, and preferably it would be small so that it isn't a local drinking spot for animals.
After taking a small drink, he continued forward until he saw a small group of squirrel like animals, but they lacked their bucked teeth and seemed to have around 30 small teeth instead. The squirrels scurried over to a small group of bushes with what seemed to be blackberries.
Isaac had seen a lot of these berries where he appeared, but was reluctant to eat them unless something else did first, and now he had found exactly that as the squirrels were munching down on them with their small teeth, but Isaac still wasn't sure about them.
The fact that these animal looked different could also mean that they could handle poison and that the berry's were poisonous, it would explain why there were so many at the opening and why these squirrels were living so close to them, so with that logic he decided to leave them and look for water again or that's what he would have wanted to at lest but he first wanted to follow the squirrels a bit longer.
The squirrels were the first creatures he had seen in a few hours, and his attention span had long since ran out with walking, and he also wanted to know what animals in this world were like. He knew that following a potentially dangerous animal was a bad idea, but he held hope that they would lead him somewhere valuable.
Isaac followed the squirrels for around 30 minutes before the sound of water hit his ears, and it was also in the direction of where the squirrels were going, so he took a few steps back before slowly following them at a snail's pace. The closer he got, the louder the water crash hit his ears, it sounded like a waterfall or a really fast river.
As he got closer, his mind started going through the steps he could do to make it safer to drink. 'fast moving water is better than stagnant water, but I should also filter it some way, so I should filter it with some ground up charcoal to help get rid of the Bacteria as well as boiling the water to remove more harmful Bacteria. Too bad I don't have anything better than this, the water will still most likely contain some microorganisms, but it's better than nothing.'
Soon, the forest cleared up into a small clearing with a river flowing down from a waterfall. The river was flowing towards the mountain, but it was hard to see how close it gets as it seemed to go downhill, and Isaac couldn't see from his current position. The water was flowing fast, but not fast enough to where he would be swept away.
The squirrels that led him here were drinking from the river, but considering the squirrels possible heightened poison immunity, it filled him with a bigger desire to purify the water before he drank it himself. Isaac started walking towards the waterfall and to find a way up to it, as he had read online that examining the source of the water could help him find out what may be in the water. Luckily for him, the waterfall was only a few meters up, and a small but steep hill could get him there.
After a few attempts to try and get up, he managed to use a few branches of nearby trees to get up the hill, and once he made it up the hill, he turned around to face the mountain and saw the sun setting, barely peeking its way over the peaks, and for the first time since he was brought here, he spoke loudly.
"So that's west then, Dam this is a good view, guess east is the way for now."
