"Hey."
"Hmm?"
Leo turned over looking at Emily.
"Good morning, baby," he said as he opened his eyes to her head on his chest.
He ran his fingers through her hair.
"I need to tell you something," She said almost hesitantly.
"And....what might that be?"
"I got a message from an ex. His name is Nolan."
Leo froze.
Please don't tell me I need to do it again.
"O...kayy?"
"He wanted to know if we could go have dinner somet–"
"No."
"Huh?"
"I said no."
She sat up and looked down at him.
"He's just a friend."
"Mhm, the friend I'll never have to worry about, yeah? No. You aren't going to see him anytime soon. If another man attempts to get in between us, I will fucking kill him. And if I catch you with another, I will force you to watch as I do. You mark my words Emily, you are mine and no one else's."
She giggled.
"Baby, I'm not going to go back to him if thats what you're worried about."
"Good. Because I promise, I will end the both of you. If you ever betray me. I will hurt you."
He meant it. Every word.
Emily seemed...somehow excited at the idea of him being so possessive. It seemed like she had hit a nerve. But in this moment she wouldn't know that there was something dormant in this man snarling in its sleep.
"Let me see the messages."
She opened her phone and handed it to him.
He snatched it and immediately read through.
"You're a smart girl," he said as he proceeded to block the guy on her phone.
"I'll hurt you both if I catch you with him darling. You understand?"
"But he messaged me. I only told him I had you."
"You're not going to argue with me. Whats done is done."
"Yes, sir."
He opened his mouth but stopped and frowned. This was followed by a smile.
"Lets get some breakfast baby."
He got up out of the bed and rubbed his hands together.
"Eggs and toast?"
"Sure!"
He threw on his robe and moved to the kitchen to start cooking.
She stepped out of the room, her naked body almost shining in the morning sunlight.
He cracks an egg on the pan's edge and watches the yold drop into the bottom and start sputtering in the heat.
Nolan huh? Interesting. He would have to just see who this guy was. He had a few really good methods. Should he tell her?
Nahh. She didn't need to see how bad he could be. She didn't do anything to betray him....
He flipped the egg.
Apparently those two broke it off on mutual terms so technically, the guy wasn't a bad guy...thus he wasn't a target either.
Leo would let this one slide.
He reached up and grabbed a plate from the cabinet and set it down on the counter. He lowered the heat of the burner and then retrieved two slices of bread and popped them into the toaster. He turned back to the stove and flipped the egg onto the plate.
There was something about this Nolan
Something different. Leo couldn't stop dwelling on it.
Emily stepped out of the bathroom in her little white robe.
The toast popped out of the toaster.
He pulled it out and popped them onto the plate. He handed it to her and kissed her forehead.
"Eat up baby,"
He cracked another couple of eggs and loaded them into the pan, frying them up for himself.
"Are you mad at me?"
Emily said as she had been standing there in the doorway to the living room with her plate in hand looking at him with her big blue eyes.
She hadnt put on her glasses yet.
"Baby how could I be mad at you?"
He asked as he slapped his eggs onto his plate.
"I don't know...You're just kinda quiet."
"Lil Rabbit you know I'm quiet a lot of the time."
He leaned in and kissed her lips.
"Go eat. I'll be in there in just a moment."
She nodded before she turned and brought her plate to the couch, curling up and flipping on his television with the remote.
He walked in, slow and calm and sat down beside her.
He began to eat while she flipped through the programs.
They spent a small amount of time silent, simply in each other's company.
Leo wouldn't confront the questions in the back of his throat.
Something was wrong but he couldn't quite set his finger on it.
Eventually, he would have to figure it out...just, not right now.
