Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: I Am Vengeance!!

"Breaking into a woman's apartment, you must be quite the pervert, huh?"

Wade wiggled his eyebrows as they landed on Yuri's balcony with Wade in Spider-Man's arms. Spider-Man looked at him and let go.

"Hey! Hey, what's up Spidey!"

He smiled under the mask at the nickname and tried to open the glass door without breaking it.

"Rude, anyway. How the hell did you figure out so quickly where she lives, and why are you so sure she's the one who hired me?" Wade entered the room after the door was opened.

Spider-Man looked around and to his annoyance, Yuri wasn't there.

"Hey! Don't ignore me!"

"I'm not ignoring you, Mouth," Spider-Man said, rolling his eyes. He went to the answering machine and played the last call. Yuri's voice finished playing.

"Does that answer your second question?"

"Shit! It's her!"

"And to answer your first question, all her biographical data is in the New York police database, which is very difficult to access if you don't know what to do."

"Radical."

Spider-Man patted Wade on the back and started checking the room.

"I'll search the rooms and see if I can find any clues as to where she might be or where she might be headed."

"Okay! I'll look in the refrigerator and see if I can find some...clues,"

Wade said, rubbing his hands together as he headed towards the kitchen. He walked straight to the refrigerator, but tripped over something and fell to the floor.

"Son of a bitch — Oh...oh...Oh Shit!" Wade's eyes widened as he saw what he had tripped over.

"Spider-Man!"

"Not now, Wade."

"Spider-Man!"

"Shut up! Oh! I think I've found where she's headed."

"You do everything a fucking spider can do! Get your fucking ass over here! There's a fucking dead body here and I seriously doubt you want me shouting it out loud."

Spider-Man ran quickly towards where Wade was.

"Oh shit," he said, repeating the same words Wade had said.

In front of them was a man who looked no more than 40 years old lying behind the kitchen counter.

The corpse was wearing an elegant tuxedo and there was a bullet wound in the middle of his forehead, but curiously there was no pool of blood.

"Can you believe it? My boss turned out to be a corrupt, murderous cop!" Wade said.

"Why are you acting like all this is new to you? You used to work for William Stryker,"

Spider-Man commented, causing Wade to freeze in place. He ignored Wade and inspected the body. "Putting aside the sadistic idiot, Yuri didn't kill him."

"What? How are you so sure?"

"This guy wasn't even killed here," Spider-Man said while looking at the body.

"This guy was already dead when he was shot in the head. You see this yellow flesh around the bullet hole area?

It's also done, along with the fact that there isn't a pool of blood or blood spatter on the floor or walls, which means the subject wasn't even killed here."

"Well...they could have cleaned it up."

"Clean it up? That's absurd because I don't smell any cleaning products in the apartment, and also, why clean the apartment and leave the corpse here?"

"...good point. Why do you think he was shot somewhere else?"

"Aside from the absence of any bloodstains or pools, there's also the fresh mud on the soles of his shoes, which means..."

"There should be footprints!"

"Per—"

"But there's not a single footprint!" Wade exclaimed. "Oh my God! It's like I'm a detective!"

"I'm not, I'm just really obse—" Shh, stay down and be quiet.

He suddenly grabbed Wade and hid him behind the counter along with the body, then leapt for the front door.

He jumped just in time and stuck to the ceiling above it, just before it opened and a suspicious man came in and inspected the place.

"Come in and don't make a sound," the man said, waving his weapon.

Three other men entered, along with a body bag.

"Leave it carefully."

The bag was set down and opened. A woman inside approximately 30 years old, wearing a red dress and heels, typical party attire. With the bag open, the criminal pointed his gun at the unconscious woman.

"Boss, do we really have to kill her? I mean, look at her! She looks so hot in that dress! Can't we enjoy her first?!" said a fat pig who seemed to be drooling over the unconscious woman.

"Shut up, Ork!"

What a fitting name. His mother must have been a clairvoyant, Spider-Man thought, stifling a laugh.

"We need to get this job done quickly and get out of here, or Silvermane won't be happy!"

Silvio Silvermane Manfredi, Spider-Man noted, watching the scene unfold — and recording it.

The man pointed the gun at the woman again. Just before he pressed the trigger, a web attached itself to the weapon, and before he could react, the gun was snatched from his hand.

"Sorry to spoil your fun, but I've seen enough."

Spider-Man leapt upon the nearest henchman and slammed his head against the wall with enough force to cause possible permanent brain damage.

Before the others could react, he shot one in the leg with the silenced weapon and kicked another hard enough to send him crashing into the table. He shot one of the criminals in the arm, threw the gun at one's face to knock him unconscious, and grabbed the other by the neck. The criminal tried to pull his own gun out, but Spider-Man slapped him hard, knocking him unconscious.

The leader he had previously struck began to wake up, groaning in pain. Before he could reach for his weapon, Spider-Man grabbed him by the neck and pinned him against the wall.

"W...Who are you?" the man stuttered.

Spider-Man looked at him dramatically, tilting his head. Then he pulled his mask up a little and gave him a terrifying smile.

"I Am Vengeance," he said in a deep, raspy voice. I always wanted to say that.

The leader stared at him.

"You...Are you Batman?"

"No, I'm your mortal friend Spider-Man," he smiled beneath his mask, pulled it back down, and threw the man out the window.

"AAHHHHH!...Phew," the man screamed in terror as he fell, but Spider-Man caught him with a web and tied him to the balcony, leaving him hanging.

"Man! That was one thing, but awesome!" Wade said, holding up three signs with '10'.

"I give you 30 out of 30! 10 for action, 10 for style, and 10 for letting me sniffle." Sniff. Sniff.

Spider-Man smiled at Wade's attitude and took out one of the criminals' phones to play the videos, then called the police.

"Hello? I'm Captain George Stacy. Who are you and how did you get this number?"

"Good evening, Captain Stacy. It's Spider-Man." As soon as he said that, noise started to be heard on the other end.

"What's wrong?"

"Head to Yuriko Watanabe's apartment.

There's a dead man and an unconscious woman. Everything you need to know will be on one of the phones as usual."

"What?!" A shocked scream. "Look, if this is a joke—"

"What I'm saying is true, this isn't a joke. The men responsible for the body and the woman are here in the apartment.

There are three of them, and well...one of them is having a bit of fun on the balcony."

"I want to go home! Mommy!" came from outside.

"Yes, having fun."

"Oh, God! Please, someone help me! Save me!"

"Anyway, come quick. The man's hanging, so hurry up and get here within two hours — it was good to improve the web — or well, I'll miss the former leader of this gang who must have a lot of possibly valuable information for you."

"Okay! I'll be there in 10 minutes!"

"Yuriko Watanabe isn't in the apartment, so my partner and I are going to look for her because we believe she's in danger. As I said before, I'll leave all the information on one of the phones hidden in one of the criminals' pockets. Don't lose it," he said, looking at Wade, whose eyes lit up again.

"Why do you think she might be in danger?" George asked worriedly.

"Why? Maggia looking for her? Do you need another reason why?"

"Oh shit."
