Chapter 10 - Friends

During the afternoon, Dee was walking in the streets of the city, carrying a few grocery bags.

"Hey Dee!"

She turned around to see her best friend, a girl with long red hair, hazel eyes, and freckles.

"Oh, hey Alyssa."

Alyssa walked closer to Dee.

"I haven't been seeing you for a while. What happened?" she asked.

"I… just got sick. And I also got a job as a babysitter." Dee explained.

"Aww. That's very adorable. It's cute." Alyssa cooed.

"Stop it."

"Never, sunshine~"

"Say, after I get these bags home, do you wanna go to an arcade?" Dee suggested.

"Obviously!" Alyssa responded a tad bit too quickly.

The two walk into an arcade. Dee and Alyssa looked around, and saw a girl with pink hair playing the game.

"Wow, she's good." Alyssa commented.

"After she's done, can we go for a round?" Dee offered.

"Yeah, let's."

After a few hours went by, the two left with prizes.

"I have no idea where I'm putting this," Dee pulled out a giant pink bear. "But I am not throwing it out either."

"That's so cute," Alyssa cooed. "But do you wanna go get ice cream?"

"Sure," Dee shrugged her shoulders. "But I need to take this home first."

"Oh… Okay. Yeah. Totally fine. I'll wait for you at the door."

After Dee walked into her apartment, Alyssa stood outside, she stared at her hands, which started shaking.

"No…" she whispered, and she took out a strange looking phone.

About half an hour later, Dee walked out of her home. "Sorry it took me so long, my mom made me eat food."

"It's fine." Alyssa nodded her head, she smiled at her friend.

They walked away to an ice cream shop near Dee's home.

"I'll have vanilla and… bubblegum," Dee ordered. "And you?"

"I'll just have chocolate." Alyssa shrugged.

The next day at school, Dee was walking Alyssa.

"So yeah, that's how I started babysitting a young girl." Dee explained.

"I bet she's adorable." Alyssa said, hopeful sparks were in her eyes.

"Yeah, but it's hard for her to open up," Dee stated, opening her bag to take something out. "But I think I'll manage."

"Sounds kind of fun. How much money do her parents pay you?" Alyssa questioned.

"A few hundred bucks." Dee stated.

"Dee!"

The two heard a shout. Turning to see who it was, they saw Harley running towards Dee, as she waved a paper in her hand.

"I need your help!"

"And you thought I could help because-?"

"Because you're smart!" Harley shouted.

"My grades are just above average. I am not smart," Dee shook her head. "But fine. I could try and help."

"Thank you! Thank you, Dee!" Harley pulled Dee into a hug and jumped up and down with happiness.

"And who is she?" Harley asked, looking at Alyssa.

"Is she one of your new friends?" Alyssa asked Dee.

"Yup…" Dee strained as Harley tightened her hands around her. "Harley, this is Alyssa, she's my best friend." she gestured a hand towards Alyssa, who waved her hand at Harley.

"She's pretty." Harley stated.

"I think you didn't wanna say that out loud." Alyssa laughed a little.

"Maybe. But a friend of Dee's is a friend of mine." Harley stated, as she squeezed Dee tighter.

"Let me go… my spine…"

"Alright. Alright." Harley grumbled before she let go of Dee, who took a deep breath.

"Well, we have to go." Dee stated.

"Oh, for sure. Just go!" Alyssa said, backing up a bit.

"Thanks, bye Alyssa." Dee said, and walked away with Harley.

The two soon reached an empty classroom, they sat down at an empty desk.

"Okay, so… how to start?" Dee mumbled to herself. "I never taught anyone before..."

"I'm sure you'll manage."

A few minutes went by, Dee was mid-sentence, trying to explain to an extremely confused Harley why a "GPA" was technically a form of psychological pain on people, when the air around them felt cold.

It wasn't the heavy weight of the Void. Rather, it sounded like a CD player.

"Uh, Dee?" Harley pointed toward the chalkboard.

The equations that were written in white chalk started to move. Those numbers began to rearrange themselves into neon-green strings of binary code.

Dee looked outside of the window, and saw that the sky had turned pitch black, with neon-green lines.

"This doesn't seem like Falcon," Dee whispered. "This feels... technical."

"Ursa!" Harley reached into Dee's bag.

The blue creature flew out, her wings. "This feels wrong. Someone is overwriting the physical laws of the Earth with a Source Code! Dee, if this keeps up, we're going to stay here. Possibly forever!"

Across the city at the elementary school, Yvette was staring at her juice box. It had turned into a green cube. She squeezed it, and instead of juice, purple sparkles fell out.

"My food…" Yvette muttered, and looked outside.

"Okay, kids, let's all stay in here, and-" the teacher began, but Yvette ran out of the classroom. "No! Don't go!"

"I kinda have to."

With that, Yvette ran out into the city, where people were panicking. She hid behind a tree to transform.

"Electric sparks." she mumbled. In a flash of light, she flew up to the sky, and towards the high school.

Up in the sky, she was met with Stella.

"Oh, hey kiddo."

"Hey…" Yvette waved one of her hands.

"So… are you seeing what I'm seeing, or I'm having a nightmare?" Stella asked.

"No. Everyone can see it, I bet." Yvette stated.

Once they reached the High School, they were met with the others, who were already transformed.

"Girls!" Cecilia shouted. She ran towards Yvette and Stella.

"Am I the only one who is feeling weirded out?.." Harley questioned.

Dee shook her head as she stared up at the sky. "No. Definitely not."

"Is this Falcon's doing?" Stella asked.

"Falcon is not smart enough to pull off something like this." Ursa explained, which made Dee try and hold back a laugh.

They all suddenly heard a laugh. Which made them turn around.

"Welcome everyone! To your new world!"

The figure had dark blue hair, which was held up in space buns, she had a visor that covered her eyes, and she had a full-body blue suit which resembled a disk player.

"My name is Digit! And I will save you all!"
