Chapter 52 - Marked

The difference between a player—

And a target—

Is one moment.

One signal.

One decision—

You didn't make.

The system didn't announce it loudly.

No alarms.

No warnings.

Just a shift.

Subtle.

But irreversible.

The screen flickered.

Three names remained.

HAYES

CARTER

KNIGHT

Then—

One of them changed.

Not removed.

Not erased.

Marked.

KNIGHT

Silence.

Across the city—

Alexander Knight stopped smiling.

For the first time—

In a long time.

"Well," he murmured.

"That's new."

💬 If you were Alexander… would you run… or fight back?

Obsidian Tower.

The glass walls suddenly felt thinner.

Not physically.

Psychologically.

His phone buzzed.

No number.

Just a message.

"You have been selected."

Alexander exhaled slowly.

"Selected," he repeated.

A pause.

"Or sacrificed."

Across the city—

Daniel Hayes saw it too.

The mark.

His eyes narrowed.

"They've chosen," Laura said quietly.

Daniel shook his head.

"No," he said.

A pause.

"They've started."

Because this—

Wasn't the end of Alexander.

It was the beginning of something worse.

Emily Carter stood still.

Her screen reflecting the same truth.

KNIGHT — MARKED

Her expression didn't change.

But her mind—

Moved fast.

"They want us to react," she said quietly.

And that meant—

There was a trap.

Her phone buzzed.

Alexander.

She answered.

"You look surprised," she said.

Alexander's voice came through.

Calm.

Too calm.

"Disappointed," he corrected.

A pause.

"I expected to last longer."

Emily's voice sharpened.

"This isn't a joke."

Alexander chuckled softly.

"It never was."

Daniel joined the call.

Uninvited.

"Where are you?" he asked.

Alexander didn't answer immediately.

Because location—

Was vulnerability.

"Does it matter?" he said finally.

Daniel's voice hardened.

"Yes."

Silence.

Because now—

They weren't competitors.

Not yet.

Alexander exhaled slowly.

"Obsidian Tower," he said.

Emily's eyes closed briefly.

Too predictable.

"They'll come for you," Daniel said.

Alexander smiled faintly.

"They already have."

The line went quiet.

Then—

A sound.

Glass cracking.

Obsidian Tower—

The first shot shattered the window.

Alexander moved instantly.

Not reacting—

Anticipating.

He dropped low—

Second shot missed.

Third—

Closer.

"Sniper," he muttered.

💬 Would you stay and fight… or escape immediately?

Across the city—

Daniel was already moving.

"Get the car," he ordered.

Laura didn't argue.

Because now—

This wasn't strategy.

It was survival.

Emily stood still.

Thinking.

Calculating.

"They want us separated," she said.

Daniel's voice came through.

"Then we don't stay that way."

A pause.

Because that—

Was dangerous.

Emily's voice dropped.

"This could be another test."

Daniel didn't hesitate.

"Everything is."

Silence.

Because he was right.

Back in Obsidian Tower—

Alexander moved through the shadows.

Not running.

Repositioning.

The building—

Once his advantage—

Now his trap.

Another shot.

Closer.

"Impressive," he muttered.

A pause.

"They're serious."

His phone buzzed again.

He checked it mid-movement.

Evelyn Cross: "Survive."

Alexander smiled.

Even now.

"Helpful," he said under his breath.

Because that wasn't help.

That was instruction.

Across the system—

The mark pulsed.

KNIGHT

A countdown appeared.

10:00

Silence.

Because now—

It was official.

They weren't being tested over time.

They were being eliminated—

In real time.

Daniel saw the countdown.

His grip tightened.

"They gave him ten minutes," Laura said.

Daniel's voice dropped.

"Then we have less."

Emily saw it too.

Her mind moved faster now.

Options.

Paths.

Outcomes.

But one truth stood above everything.

If Alexander fell—

They were next.

💬 Do you think Daniel and Emily should save Alexander… or let him fall?

Back in Obsidian Tower—

Alexander reached the lower level.

Breathing steady.

Not panicked.

Focused.

The exit was ahead.

Almost clear.

Then—

Footsteps.

Not one.

Multiple.

Blocking the way.

Alexander stopped.

For the first time—

Completely still.

And then—

He smiled.

Because now—

The game was finally honest.

"You should have sent more," he said.

The shadows moved.

And the hunters stepped forward.

The countdown continued.

07:42

And for the first time—

The question wasn't who would win.

It was—

Who would survive long enough to try.

💬 Should Daniel and Emily risk everything to save Alexander… or let the system eliminate him?

What would YOU do?
