Chapter 20 - CHAPTER TWENTY- THE SECRET OF THE GUMIHO

PREVIOUSLY:THE FOX'S TRUE COLORS

The air in the village square was thick with the scent of ozone and the salty tang of Zac's pearl-tears. As Akihiko's healing light bathed the area, the illusion masking Baekhyun's true nature shattered like glass.

"Baekhyun... your ears!" Ethan's voice was barely a whisper.

Baekhyun reached up, his fingers trembling as they brushed against the soft, snow-white fur of ears that hadn't been there moments ago. Behind him, a single, magnificent white tail unfurled, swaying with his rising panic.

"A Kumiho," Meryl breathed, her eyes wide with awe. She stepped back, recognizing the celestial energy radiating from him. "While Akihiko carries the fire of the Japanese Kitsune, you carry the frost of the Korean Kumiho. You were never just a Bellator, Baekhyun. You were a hidden god."

"What is happening to me, Ethan?" Baekhyun's voice cracked. He looked at his hands, seeing his nails sharpen into ivory claws. "I feel... I feel like I'm burning and freezing all at once."

Akihiko didn't stop his healing of Guada, but he glanced at his rival. "Don't fight it, Baekhyun. My energy didn't change you—it just woke up what was already there. Your family... did they never tell you?"

Baekhyun thought of his grandfather, the stern leader of the Choi clan. He remembered the strict training, the suppression of his emotions, and the coldness of his childhood. It wasn't discipline; it was a cage. "They hid it from me," he realized, a dark realization dawning. "They wanted a weapon, not a fox."

THE NOGITSUNE'S ASCENSION

Miles away, at the edge of the sea, Kaito stood atop a jagged cliff. His second tail lashed behind him, crackling with dark violet lightning. Every breath he took felt like drinking pure power.

"Do you feel that, Zac?" Kaito asked, his voice vibrating with malevolence. "The young witch's blood has unlocked the second gate. Seven more to go, and the world will bow to the Nogitsune."

Zac stood a few paces behind, his eyes red from weeping. On the ground at his feet lay a small pile of shimmering pearls—his grief turned into treasure. "You killed the light in that girl's eyes, Kaito. Was a tail worth her soul?"

Kaito turned, his fox ears twitching. He moved with a speed that Zac couldn't follow, appearing inches from the Merman's face. "The world doesn't need light, Merman. It needs a master. And once I have the Sigbinan's heart, I will be unstoppable."

THE AWAKENING OF GUADA

Back in the village, Guada's eyes finally fluttered open. She was weak, the puncture wounds on her neck now faded to faint silver scars thanks to Akihiko's magic.

"Tita Meryl?" she rasped.

Meryl rushed to her side, pulling the girl into a fierce embrace. "I'm here, Guada. You're safe."

Guada looked past Meryl, her eyes landing on Ethan, then Aki, and finally the transformed Baekhyun. She didn't look afraid. Instead, she reached out a small hand toward Baekhyun's white tail.

"The white fox..." she whispered. "In my dream, he was the one who chased the darkness away. But he was crying."

Baekhyun knelt beside the young witch, his white ears drooping. For the first time, the "Red Flag" of the White Dove looked truly vulnerable. "I'm sorry I couldn't save you from him, Guada."

"You didn't fail," Guada said, a strange, ancient wisdom in her voice. "The war has only just begun. And now, the foxes are finally together."

THE CONTINUATION:

Inside the quiet halls of the White Dove HQ, the steam from a fresh cup of tea rose like the mist of the past.

"Min Joon," Cristine said, her voice dropping to a serious tone. "Do you remember the child? The one who carried the spirit of the Gumiho during the great war?"

Min Joon leaned back, his eyes clouding with memory. He saw the fire, the screams, and the young Amelia—long before she was "Lola Amelia"—running through the battlefield with a bundle in her arms.

Flashback: The Night of Two Sons

"Amelia! Where are you going?" the leader of the faith healers, Apo Tina, had shouted as the sky turned red from the Nogitsune's fire.

"Apo Tina, I have the son of my teacher, Calista!" Amelia replied, clutching the baby tight. "I have to save him!"

"Protect Calista's son," Apo Tina commanded, her eyes glowing with prophecy. "But there is another. You must find the child who possesses the spirit of the Gumiho. He is the balance to the darkness."

Apo Tina tore open a portal, sending Amelia to a small, hidden house on the outskirts of the war zone. Outside, Min Joon and Senior Lucas—Ethan's father—were locked in a desperate struggle against the Nogitsune. Amelia slipped past the fighting and entered the house.

"Who are you?" a panicked woman asked, shielding a cradle.

"I am Amelia, apprentice to the Great Calista," Amelia said quickly. "This child in my arms is the son of the Sigbinan. I was sent to help you."

"Did Apo Tina send you?" the woman asked, her breath hitching.

"Yes. And the Aswangs are close. I can smell them," Amelia urged.

The woman looked at her sleeping son—the Gumiho—and then at Amelia. With shaking hands, she unwrapped the protective cloth from her baby and draped it over a wooden replica, casting a shimmering illusion of a child. "Take them," the mother whispered. "Take both of them. I will lead the creatures away."

"Wait!" Amelia cried, but the woman had already bolted into the night, screaming to draw the attention of the monsters. Before she vanished, she threw one last look back. "Mama loves you, my little fox."

Amelia retreated through the portal just as the Nogitsune let out a roar of frustration.

The Present

Amelia sighed, the weight of that night still heavy on her shoulders.

"So, where is that Gumiho child now?" Ninong Jeff asked, scribbling furiously in his ledger.

"I took them both to China first," Amelia explained. "I registered Ethan as my own to keep his lineage a secret. But I couldn't keep two powerful spirits together; the energy would have acted like a beacon for Kaito. I found a wealthy couple—a Korean family—who were desperate for a child. I gave him to them."

"Was that wise?" Jeff asked. "What if they were dangerous?"

"I cast a spell on both boys before they were separated," Amelia said, a faint smile appearing. "I ensured that no matter where the world took them, their souls would be tethered. I knew that one day, the Sigbinan and the Gumiho would meet again. Their connection is the only thing that can stand against the Nogitsune."

"Do you remember the mother's name?" Jeff asked, his pen poised. "The one who adopted him?"

Amelia nodded. "Her name was Ara Choi."

THE PRISON OF THE CHOI FAMILY

Deep within the reinforced walls of the Choi mansion, Ara Choi sat in a cold, sterile room. Her father stood by the window, his shadow looming over her like a dark cloud.

"Dad, you can't force my children into this," Ara said, her voice trembling but firm. "You are forcing them to become Bellators based on a distorted belief. You're turning them into killers."

"How dare you," Mr. Choi spat, turning to face her. "Your adopted son, Baekhyun... he was so aggressive in his attempts to 'save' you. Tell me, Ara, does he even know he isn't yours? Does he know he's just a stray I took in to sharpen into a blade?"

"Why are you doing this?" she asked, tears welling in her eyes.

"Power, Ara. Wealth," Mr. Choi laughed, a hollow, terrifying sound. "The world will soon be mine. These supernatural 'pests' will vanish, and the only ones left to conquer the earth will be us—the humans."

"You're insane," Ara whispered.

"Say what you want, but you cannot stop the wheels I have set in motion. Don't worry about your children... I'll make sure they are 'useful' to the new world order."

THREE HEROES AND A FOX CRISIS

Back in the South-Central village, the tension of the battle had dissolved into a moment of pure, awkward chaos. Baekhyun stared into a cracked piece of glass, horrified and fascinated by the white ears twitching on his head.

"What is happening to me?" he groaned.

Ethan walked over, a massive grin on his face. He reached out and began rubbing the soft fur of Baekhyun's white ears before turning to do the same to Aki's orange ones.

"Wow! You're a Gumiho! This is amazing!" Ethan chirped, pinching both of their cheeks at once. "I have two puppies now! Two cute, fluffy fox-puppies!"

"Ethan! Stop it!" they both shouted at the same time, though neither of them pulled away from his touch.

Meryl walked over, gently leading a pale but conscious Guada. "The 'puppies' need to focus," she teased. "Guada is awake."

"How are you feeling, Guada?" Ethan asked, his expression immediately turning serious.

"I'm better, sir. Thank you for saving me," she replied.

"Don't thank me," Ethan said, gesturing toward Baekhyun and Aki. "I failed you when it mattered most. They are the ones who turned the tide."

"No," Guada said softly, her eyes glowing with a faint, lingering magic. "I have three heroes. But we must be ready... I can feel him. The Nogitsune is getting stronger. The blood he took... it opened something dark inside him."

THE DARK SIGBIN OF THE WEALTHY MAN

Meanwhile, near the mouth of the sanctuary cave, Nana Esther gathered Jin Ae, Jasmine, and Catherine. The atmosphere was heavy with the scent of the Amomongo's herbal tobacco.

"Jin Ae," Nana Esther said, "we need your help to stop your grandfather's madness. He is tearing up the Peace Treaty. If the Bellators continue this way, the world will burn."

"But if I don't give him a Sigbin, he won't release my mother," Jin Ae said, her heart torn between her duty and her family.

The Amomongo stepped forward, blowing a thick cloud of smoke. "Perhaps I can help you find a Sigbin that needs to be captured. One that does not belong in a sanctuary."

"What do you mean?" Jasmine asked, stepping closer.

"There is a wealthy man in the next province," the Amomongo explained. "He claims his fortune comes from his 'pets'—a pack of Black Sigbins. Every full moon, he releases them to terrorize the town, targeting children while they sleep. Tomorrow is the full moon."

"Where can we find him?" Jin Ae asked, her eyes hardening with determination.

The Amomongo handed her a weathered map. "Be careful. Saving your mother is important, but this man is protected by more than just stone walls."

"Don't worry, Nana," Jin Ae said, hugging her grandmother. "I'll explain everything to Baekhyun. He'll help me."

"Be swift," Catherine added, her eyes narrowing as she looked toward the horizon. "I can feel the shift in the air. The Nogitsune has his second tail... the war isn't coming anymore. It's here."
