After completing all the necessary tests, Tara was finally brought back to her private ward room.
The moment the doctor stepped in, Kahan was already on his feet."How is she?"
The doctor glanced at Tara before answering calmly, "For now, it appears to be temporary memory loss."
A wave of mixed relief and tension passed through the room.
"However," the doctor continued, "I would like to speak with her close family members in my office so I can explain the situation in more detail."
The room fell into a brief silence as everyone looked at each other, silently deciding who should go.
Kalon stood up first. "Jade, Kahan, and I will go. Tiana, you stay here with Cain and Tara. Is that okay?"
Cain immediately moved as if to object—but before he could say anything, Tara reached out and grabbed his hand.
"Please… don't leave me."
The room went completely still.
Kahan leaned toward Tiana and whispered, "Wow… she really did hit her head hard."
Tiana nudged him sharply, shooting him a warning glare.
Cain froze.
He had always been detached—especially when it came to people. Women, even more so. The only exception had been that strange incident at the Morgan Hotel, when for a brief moment he thought he had found someone… something different.
And now, Tara Logan—someone who once treated him with nothing but cold indifference—was looking at him like he was the only person she could trust.
It stirred something in him he couldn't name.
His expression remained unreadable as he looked down at her.
"…I'll stay," he said quietly. "Just let me know what the doctor says."
"Your brother will tell you," Kalon replied as she headed for the door with the others.
Soon, only Tara, Cain, and Tiana remained.
The silence didn't last long.
A soft rumble broke it—Tara's stomach.
Tiana blinked, then stood. "I'll go get some food."
She paused at the door and glanced back. "Anything specific? Any allergies?"
Cain shook his head.
Tiana turned to Tara with a gentle smile. "What about you?"
Tara thought for a moment. "Anything is fine… just nothing oily."
"Got it." Tiana nodded and left.
Now, it was just the two of them.
Tara turned to Cain, a faint smile playing on her lips. "By the way… who are you to me?"
Cain raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"I'm asking," she said, leaning slightly closer, "what kind of relationship we have."
The distance between them closed quickly—too quickly.
They were inches apart now.
Cain stiffened, then gently pushed her forehead back with a finger."You're still weak. Rest. Ask me when you're better."
Tara blinked… then chuckled softly, shaking her head as she leaned back.
"What's funny?" Cain asked.
Without warning, she leaned in again, catching him off guard.
"What do you think?" she whispered.
For a brief second, Cain lost himself in her eyes.
Then she pulled away, breaking whatever moment had formed between them.
Neither of them spoke after that.
Thirty minutes later, Tiana returned with several bags of food, followed by nurses helping her carry the rest.
She paused, noticing the silence. "Did I miss anything?"
Tara glanced at Cain, amusement dancing in her eyes. "Not at all."
"Good. I brought enough for everyone. Eat first—I'll check if the others are done with the doctor."
With that, she left again.
Cain moved to the food bags. "What do you want to eat?"
"Anything you give me," Tara replied lightly.
Cain paused and looked up—only to find her watching him the entire time, smiling.
He quickly looked away and continued searching through the bags.
Tara laughed softly.
After a moment, Cain spoke. "You're… different."
Her smile faltered slightly. "How so?"
"The Tara I knew was cold," he said honestly. "No matter how I approached you. But right now… you feel like a completely different person."
Tara's expression shifted—her amusement gone.
"So we didn't have a good relationship?" she asked, her tone now serious.
Before Cain could answer, the door opened.
Kalon walked in, followed by the others.
"Not at all," Kalon said smoothly. "You were dating. You were just upset with him, so you were giving him the cold shoulder."
The others nodded along.
"Oh…" Tara murmured, processing.
She slowly tried to sit up.
"Don't," Tiana said quickly, moving toward her. "You're still weak—"
Tara raised her hand, stopping her.
Her expression turned cold.
"Let me make one thing clear."
The atmosphere in the room instantly shifted.
"I may have lost my memory," she said slowly, her gaze sweeping across everyone, "but I'm not stupid."
No one spoke.
"So be careful," she continued, her voice calm but dangerous. "Don't try anything. If I find out anyone is lying to me… it won't end well."
Her eyes finally landed on Cain.
"Especially you."
A chill ran through the room.
Kalon leaned slightly toward Cain and whispered, "Even without her memory… she's still terrifying."
Tara looked back at them. "So… he's my boyfriend?"
"Yes," Kalon answered firmly.
Cain was about to object—but Jade quickly grabbed his arm and gave him a sharp look.
Don't.
Tara observed everyone carefully.
No one denied it.
She accepted it.
Then she nodded.
"If he's really my boyfriend," she said, turning her gaze to Cain, "what did we fight about that I couldn't forgive you?"
"Because—" Kalon started.
"I wasn't asking you," Tara cut in coldly. "Let him answer."
Jade leaned toward Cain and whispered urgently, "Don't mess this up. I'll explain later."
Cain exhaled slowly.
"You were upset," he said, "because I missed a dinner you planned. You'd been preparing it for weeks."
Tara studied him carefully.
"That doesn't sound like enough," she said. "Is there more?"
"There isn't—" Jade tried again.
Tara shot him a sharp glare. "I don't want anyone answering for him."
The room fell silent again.
"He's my boyfriend," she continued. "If I was angry, he should be the one explaining why."
Then she looked around the room.
"You know what… everyone except him—"
She pointed directly at Cain.
"—get out."
Her voice was calm, but absolute.
"I want to speak to him alone."
