Chapter 8 - Fate's Decision

The creatures growled angrily, startled by the noise, their predatory instincts igniting a frenzy of aggression. The friends scattered, fear overwhelming their senses as they ran off in different directions. Panic clouded their minds, and they became lost and confused in the vastness of the cave, the darkness adding to their desperation.

Barka, who had always wanted to take responsibility, felt the weight of her choices crashing down on her. Consumed by fear, her screams echoed louder than the others, drowning out any rational thought. All her senses seemed to betray her when she needed them most.

Meanwhile, the creatures pursued them relentlessly. Despite their blindness, they navigated the cave with an uncanny precision, using their other senses to track their prey. The friends, uncoordinated and scattered, had unwittingly played right into the creatures' hands. It was a disaster waiting to unfold, and now it was only a matter of time before fate made its cruel decision.

Barka sprinted through the darkness, her heart pounding in her chest. The only thought that occupied her mind was escape. She dashed forward, desperate to find the exit, leaving her friends to deal with the chaos she had created. Guilt gnawed at her insides, but survival instinct pushed her onward.

Xiao Xi, on the other hand, was running for his life with a creature hot on his tail. The darkness enveloped him, and he stumbled into unseen obstacles, each collision sending shockwaves of pain through his body. Sweat dripped from his brow, and his lungs burned as he ran for what felt like miles. Despite his exhaustion, he couldn't afford to stop. The fate awaiting him if he did was too terrifying to contemplate.

The creature behind him was relentless, a shadowy predator that showed no signs of letting up. It followed Xiao Xi with an eerie grace, every turn he made mirrored by its swift movements. It was intelligent, using its acute senses to track him down. Every frantic step he took was met with the creature's calculated pursuit, a reminder that it knew this cave better than he did. Xiao Xi's resolve began to falter, his legs growing weaker, but he couldn't give in; he had to keep moving.

Meanwhile, Nite and Doushi faced their own terror as another creature stalked them. Nite ran, fear propelling him forward. He didn't dare stop, didn't dare turn back. His heart raced with every claw that grazed his skin, and he cursed Barka, blaming her for the nightmare they found themselves in.

Doushi, however, couldn't shake her gaze from the creature looming behind them. She wanted to stop, to take a breath, but the weight of their predicament pressed down on her like a heavy shroud. They were at the mercy of fate, and the tension in the air was palpable.

"Nite, keep running!" she shouted, but her voice was barely a whisper, lost in the chaos.

Suddenly, a horrifying realization struck them: they had fallen into a hidden pit. The creature paused, considering its next move. Doushi's heart raced, but a small smile crept onto her lips as she caught her breath.

"What's wrong, too scared to jump?" she taunted, her voice shaky yet defiant. But instead of retreating, the creature leaped into the air, its form descending upon them like a dark cloud.

They felt its presence before they saw it—a massive force of darkness towering over them, its glowing red eyes piercing through the gloom. Fear gripped Doushi, and she closed her eyes, wishing it all away.

But Doushi was tired of being afraid. With a surge of determination, she transformed, her form shifting into something more powerful. Yet this time, her transformation felt weaker, as if the fear had drained her strength. But even in that weakened state, she faced the creature head-on.

Doushi lunged, her canines sinking into the creature's flesh. The force of her attack caused a dislocation, but the creature didn't flinch. Instead, it stood there, watching her struggle with an unsettling calm. For the first time, Doushi saw a smile spread across its face—not one of amusement, but something darker, more sinister.

Grabbing her by the neck, the creature slammed her to the ground. A scream tore from her lips as pain coursed through her body, but the creature only seemed to revel in her suffering. It continued its torment until Doushi felt herself slipping away, her strength waning.

Nite, still blinded by the darkness, sensed the creature's gaze shifting toward him. The weight of its predatory stare was suffocating. In a desperate attempt to save Doushi, he lunged forward, grabbing her limp form.

"Doushi! We have to go!" he cried, dragging her away as the creature followed, its amusement palpable.

With every ounce of strength he had left, Nite crawled toward Barka, who was already at the exit, a guilt-filled expression etched on her face. She felt too ashamed to abandon her friends after being the cause of their predicament.

Upon seeing Nite and Doushi, relief washed over Barka, but it was short-lived. As she rushed to help, she froze mid-step.

The creature loomed behind Nite, a sinister smile still plastered across its face as it assessed Barka from head to toe. Time seemed to slow as dread filled her heart.

"Xiao Xi!" she shouted, her voice filled with panic. Just then, Xiao Xi burst into view, still running for his life. He tripped over a rock, crashing to the ground as the second creature appeared, walking with an unsettling grace, its own smile mirroring that of the one behind Nite.

"That's it... it's all over!" Barka muttered, her voice trembling with despair.

In that moment, everything felt hopeless. The darkness of the cave seemed to close in around them, suffocating and relentless. Barka's mind raced through options, but none seemed viable.

"Barka, what do we do?" Nite gasped, his breath ragged and desperate.

"We fight," she replied, her voice steadier than she felt. "We have to face them together."

Doushi stirred slightly, her eyes fluttering open. "We can't let them win," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "We have to find a way out."

With newfound determination, Barka rallied her friends. "On three, we charge. We have to stick together!"

"Okay," Nite nodded, his fear momentarily quelled by the adrenaline coursing through him.

"Ready?" Barka asked, glancing at each of them. She could see the flicker of resolve in their eyes, a small flame igniting amidst the darkness.

"One... two... three!"

With a collective roar, they charged at the creatures, hearts pounding in unison. The first creature lunged at them, but they dodged to the side, working as a cohesive unit. Barka felt the power of her friends beside her, a surge of energy that pushed her forward.

Doushi transformed again, her form more powerful this time, and she struck at the creature with renewed vigor. Nite and Xiao Xi flanked her, using their combined strength to distract the creature.

"Now!" Barka shouted, and they coordinated their attacks, striking the creature from all sides.

But the creatures were not to be underestimated. They fought back with ferocity, and the cave echoed with the sounds of battle. Claws clashed against flesh, and blood spilled onto the cold stone floor, creating a gruesome tapestry of their struggle.

As they fought, Barka's mind raced. They needed a plan, a way to outsmart these monsters. She remembered the stories her parents told her about the creatures of the Netherworld—how they were bound by ancient rules, how their power could be turned against them.

"Doushi, can you weaken them?" Barka yelled, dodging a swipe from the creature.

"I'll try!" Doushi replied, focusing her energy on the creature in front of her. She unleashed a wave of force, sending it staggering back.

"Now, Nite! Xiao Xi! We have to push it into the pit!" Barka commanded, pointing to the dark hole behind them.

With her words igniting their spirits, they moved as one, cornering the creature. It snarled, realizing their intent, but it was too late. With a final push, they sent it tumbling into the pit, its enraged screams echoing in the darkness.

But there was no time to celebrate. The second creature lunged at them, furious and determined to avenge its fallen companion.

"Stay together!" Barka shouted, her heart racing. They had to finish this.

Working in unison, they dodged and struck, using their surroundings to their advantage. Doushi transformed again, her form growing more powerful with each change. Nite and Xiao Xi flanked her, using their agility to evade the creature's powerful strikes.

"Barka, now!" Doushi yelled, her voice filled with urgency.

With a surge of energy, Barka summoned all her strength and lunged at the creature, her fangs poised to strike. In that moment, she felt a connection to the darkness around her, a surge of power flowing through her veins.

She bit down hard.
