(Third Person POV)
Some hundred meters away from the Shrine's boundaries, a woman was on the ground, crawling away from the figure of the large wolf.
"H-Help me!!" She pleaded, crying out for help, "It's going to....!"
Her leg had a gash that was bleeding, courtesy of the Okuri's attack. The wolf was stalking her, snarling viciously as it slowly stepped towards her. She looked over her back, looking at it with frightened eyes, seeing how the beast as stalking her.
"N-No...!!!" She cried out, "Please, leave me be...!!"
The Okuri was about to lunge at her, its fangs bared, when it heard a twig snap. It immediately turned its head to see an arrow flying at it. It jumped to the side, avoiding the arrow and saw as it hit the nearby tree.
It then lowered its body, snarling viciously as it sensed another presence. To the far left, Mael was seen holding a bow in his hand.
"Tch..." He said, "I should've hit him there...."
The woman looked at him with tears in her eyes, "H-Help me....!" She said, "The beast is going to-"
She was cut off by the deep growling of the Okuri, which was facing Mael. Mael saw the hostility in its glowing red eyes, as if it recognized him from earlier. He remembered that he had put two arrows in it but it did no damage.
Mael raised his bow, "This..." He said to himself as he pulled on the bowstring, "Is a magic bow...."
As he pulled the bowstring, a spectral arrow appeared nocked on it. It gave of a faint grey glow, shining in the shadows where Mael was. The Okuri snarled and took a step forwards, as if judging the distance between itself and Mael.
"You!" Mael called out to the woman, "Get out of here!"
"M-My leg...." The woman sat up, trying to drag herself against the dirt, "It's hurt!"
Mael gritted his teeth, "Damn..." He said, "Get out of its sights then."
Before he could say anything else, the Okuri pounced at him with blinding speed. Out of pure instinct, he released the arrow, shooting right at it. The Okuri jumped to the side, avoiding the arrow and Mael watched as it landed on the side of the tree, bouncing off it and shooting straight at him.
Mael jumped to the side, avoiding the wolf's attack, "What the fuck...?" He said, hitting the ground hard, "Shit...!"
He then scrambled back to his feet as the Okuri lunged at him again with a bone-chilling growl. He stepped to the side, feeling its claws dig into his arm as it tried to take a bite out of him. The momentum of the wolf's lunge was able to throw Mael off-balance, causing him to stumble.
A burning sensation was felt in his arm, the beast's claws ripping through and blood spraying out.
"Aghhh!" He shouted in pain as the wolf composed itself, "Fuck!"
He looked at his arm, seeing a large gash on it that was bleeding profusely. He knew at that moment that things would not be looking good.
The Okuri lunged at him again, this time aiming right at his chest, maw open wide for a bite. Mael had pulled the bowstring back, summoning another spectral arrow as the wolf hit him and dropped him. At that moment, he released the bowstring, firing an arrow aimed at its underside.
As he hit the ground, the Okuri let out a pained yelp and immediately jumped away, blood trailing in the air. Mael was disoriented by the drop, his entire body throbbing as he heard the wolf growling.
He immediately got up and saw that the wolf was limping slightly, growling viciously. He then pulled the bowstring back and fired another spectral arrow, hitting the wolf's side and causing it to yelp out again.
It then snarled viciously and lunged at him, going for his neck. Mael had already jumped away in time to avoid the attack. He then tripped and rolled on the ground, causing him to grunt in pain.
"What am I doing....?" He stood back up as the wolf began to circle him, "I have to....."
"Lanceus"
The bow had disappeared, and replacing it, a long wooden spear with black wing markings appeared, with a dark grey spear-tip. Mael held the spear with two hands, pointing it at the wolf, which was limping and bleeding.
"I'm an idiot." He muttered to himself, feeling more blood come out of his wound, "I won't let you get close, you mutt."
The Okuri snarled and glared at him, taking a step closer. Mael noticed that it was bleeding as well, its red blood was pouring and pooling on the ground. The moment it dropped to the ground, it turned pitch black, releasing steam.
"Come on...." Mael said, spitting on the ground, "You're going to do something about it????"
The wolf growled, baring its fangs at Mael.
As this happened, Mael heard the sound of people rushing this way.
"What's going on?!" a man said as they broke the treeline, "Sumi!"
Mael saw that a group of men holding wooden poles, their eyes widening to see that the sight of the Okuri bleeding.
The woman was leaning against a tree, "The Okuri attacked us!" She cried out, tears in her eyes, "It killed...!!"
The men looked at Mael, "You there!" one said, "Whatever you do, do not-"
Before Mael could hear the final part of the sentence, the Okuri lunged at him with blinding speed. Mael raised the spear upwards out of instinct, feeling it plunge into the wolf's underside. The momentum of the beast's lunge caused Mael to be pushed backwards, and he felt as the spear's shaft was planted on the ground, the wolf's body impaled through.
The Okuri let out a pained growl, blood pouring down the spear as Mael braced himself. Its eyes were full of hatred and anger, glaring right at Mael.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!" one of the men said, "YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO KILL IT!!!"
"What?" Mael said, looking over, "What are you talking about?!"
The Okuri was struggling to breathe, blood pouring out its mouth as it growled viciously.
"Fufu~" Mael heard the voice in his head, "Well done~ An Okuri? That's quite impressive for a fish like you~ Now....activate it. Your Magic. Reach for the wolf's body and activate it."
"What?" Mael repeated, "H-How?"
"Simply let the Distortion take over."She said, "Will it forth."
Mael extended his hand outwards, touching the wolf's fur, "Right...."
"And make the Command."The voice said, "Activating it is easier than you'd think. Controlling it is the difficult part. Now say it. Make the Command, Pet."
Mael nodded,
"Distorted Subjugation"
