Chapter 10 - The second house

The key rested against my skin, hidden inside the necklace, but I could feel its weight like it was pressing directly into my chest.

What ha been on my neck for decades now felt so

Heavy.

Important.

Dangerous.

I looked in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection.

"You're really going to do this alone?" I asked myself quietly.

The note echoed in my mind again.

"Do not trust anyone."

My fingers tightened around the necklace.

"I don't have a choice."

The picture was still in my hand.

The one with the second house.

I had barely slept, spending hours studying every inch of it ,the shape of the windows, the gate behind them, even the trees in the background.

And then it clicked.

A faint memory.

A place I had been to once as a child.

Not often.

Not openly.

But it existed.

"A second house…" I whispered.

I have been there before

My parents had hidden it well.

Which meant…

Whatever was inside it was never meant to be found easily.

I stepped outside the car cautiously, my eyes scanning my surroundings.

Everything felt… off.

Too quiet.

Too still.

But I ignored it.

Pulled my hood slightly over my head and put on my face mask then I started walking.

I got closer to the building and was looking for a way in without breaking the door.

From a distance, Thompson watched me

His jaw tightened.

"She's going somewhere," he muttered.

His phone was already in his hand.

"Keep your distance," he instructed. "Don't let her see you."

He paused, his voice lowering.

"And don't let anyone else get close."

His gaze darkened.

"Especially not them."he ordered them

Jessica sat comfortably, sipping her drink as she listened.

"She's moving again?" she asked, amused.

"Yes," the man replied. "And this time… she seems sure."

Jessica smiled slowly.

"Good."

She stood up, setting the glass aside.

"Let her lead us straight to it."

A pause.

"And when she does…"

Her eyes turned cold.

"End it." She said coldly

It took longer , bigger than i expected.

The place wasn't anywhere obvious.

Hidden beyond the main roads, far from crowded areas, almost like it had been erased from the world.

But when I saw a tiny entrance

I knew.

My step slowed.

My breath caught.

"This is it…"

The house stood quietly, surrounded by overgrown plants and silence.

It looked abandoned.

But not forgotten.

There was something about it that made my skin crawl.

Like it was watching me .

Waiting.

The door creaked as I pushed it open it wasn't closed, as if they knew I would be there someday .

The sound echoed louder than it should have.

I froze.

My heart pounded.

"Relax…" I whispered to myself .

But my instincts screamed otherwise.

Inside the House

The moment I stepped in

The air changed.

It was colder.

Heavier.

The kind of silence that didn't feel empty… but filled with something unseen.

I swallowed hard.for a moment I almost regretted going there alone

"Why does this place feel like this…" I murmured.

My footsteps were slow, careful.

Each step echoing.

Each movement cautious.

I looked around.

Everything was covered in dust but unlike the first house, this one felt… untouched.

Preserved.

Like no one had dared to enter for years.

Then

A sound.

Upstairs.

I froze.

My heart began racing again.

"Did someone follow me?" I whispered.

Silence.

Then nothing.

I hesitated.

Every instinct told me to leave.

Now.

Immediately.

But instead

I moved forward. "I came here prepared I can't go back empty handed " I said to myself

Thompson was outside

He arrived moments later.

But the moment he saw the house

His expression changed completely.

"No…" he muttered.

His grip tightened on his phone.

"She found it…"

For the first time

He looked worried.

Truly worried.

"She shouldn't be here alone."

He moved quickly toward the entrance

Then stopped.

Something was wrong.

Too quiet.

Too still.

"They're already here…" he realized.

His eyes darkened instantly. He looked for a way to get inside without making any sound or calling attention

I climbed the stairs slowly.

Each step creaked beneath my weight.

My breathing became shallow.

The closer I got

The stronger the feeling became.

That I wasn't alone.

I reached the hallway.

Doors lined both sides.

Closed.

Silent.

Waiting.

My hand trembled as I reached for one of the handles.

I opened it slowly…

Empty.

Just an old room.

Nothing inside.

I checked another.

And another.

Still nothing.

Frustration began to rise.

"Where is it?" I whispered.

My fingers brushed against my necklace again.

The safe.

It had to be here.

Somewhere.

Then

I noticed something.

At the end of the hallway.

A door.

Different from the others.

Stronger.

Heavier.

My breath caught.

"That's it…"

I walked toward it slowly.

Each step felt heavier than the last.

My instincts screamed at me to stop.

But I didn't, I have gone far to stop at this moment it's either now or now ,there's no other option .

Outside ——Danger Rising

Footsteps.

Multiple

Quiet.

Careful.

Men moved around the house, surrounding it.

Weapons ready.

Eyes sharp.

"Wait for the signal," one of them whispered.

From another angle.

Jessica's car pulled up.

She stepped out, her gaze fixed on the house.

"She's inside," she said calmly.

A slow smile spread across her lips.

"Perfect." Let her be our bait

Thompson saw them.

His expression turned deadly.

"Damn it."

He pulled out his phone quickly.

"They're here," he said. "Move in now."

He didn't wait for a response.

He was already heading inside.

Finally I stood in front of the door.

My hand rested against it.

My heart pounded violently.

"This is it…" I whispered.

Slowly

I reached for my necklace.

My fingers trembling as I pulled out the key.

I stared at it.

"This is what they've been after…"

My hand moved toward the lock

Then…

A loud noise echoed from downstairs.

Voices.

Footsteps.

My eyes widened.

"They're here…"

Fear gripped me instantly.

I turned toward the stairs…

Then back to the door.

My mind raced.

"If I leave now… I might never find this place again."

My grip tightened around the key.

"But if I stay…"

My breathing became uneven.

"I could die."

The footsteps grew louder.

Closer.

Faster.

I turned back to the door.

My hand shaking as I pushed the key toward the lock

"Agnes!"

Thompson's voice echoed from downstairs.

My eyes widened.

Relief.

Fear.

Confusion.

All at once.

"Come down now!" he shouted.

"They're here…you're not safe!"

My heart pounded harder.

The key hovered inches away from the lock.

One choice.

One moment.

Everything hanging in between…..
