Alina's POV.
I was taken aback the moment I looked out of the window. Frightened, I bumbled back, nearly losing my footing as I distanced myself from the opening in shock. My heart pounded violently against my chest.
The chamber. It was too high!
I've never stood at such a height or stood in a chamber so distant from the ground. It was so tall, so unreachable, like a world entirely different from where I stood. That was my first time beholding such a sight. It was both breathtaking and terrifying, and for a fleeting second, I was awestricken. Then the reality crashed in. I was filled with rage at the realization.
"Could he be this ruthless?" I whispered under my breath, my voice trembling. Can't he be human for once? I questioned inwardly, desperate for a solution.
Well, he is not even a human. The little voice in my head reminded me. I hissed, running my hands down my face in confusion—what if I had blindly leapt out in desperation?
Shivers ran down my spine at the thought as I suddenly imagined what could have been my fate if I hadn't looked out first. This chamber is so elevated from the ground, and I could have ended up breaking my spine, legs, and every bone in my body, or worse, terminating my life at the expense of trying to save it.
My heart tightened in fury, disgust spilling from my expression. I hated this man, or whatever creature he was, from the beginning, but at this moment I despised him. I could kill him if I had the opportunity to do so. He had ruined everything for me —my escape plans, every chance I could get to return to my home, all got shattered now. I secretly wished I could do the same to him, make him pay for this misery that I was going through.
Every bit of amazement I had felt earlier for the tower all vanished at once, and I resented myself for the admiration I had felt earlier. I tried to get hold of my bitterness and think of a way out.
"What would I do now?" I muttered, pacing in the room restlessly, "How do I even handle this?" My mind raced, but every thought led to a dead end.
"This bogey…" I scoffed bitterly. "He must have planned this."He did plan this; that is why he did this. He didn't bring me here to help as he had claimed; he wants to make me a prisoner.
Why would he want to make us prisoners? The little voice in my head surfaced again.
Yes. That is it. Why would he want to keep me here? Why me? What was so special about me? I wasn't anyone important. Just a girl trying to survive. So, why would he bring me to this unknown world and lock me up in this strange chamber? Why not kill me if I was a threat?
"What do I do?" I pondered in fear. My eyes darted around, hoping for answers hidden in plain sight.
Time ticked; hours passed, and still nothing came to mind. No answers, no clue. I peeked again through the window but instantly stepped back in horror.
"This is ridiculous and very unfair," I muttered.
I tried to force myself to think, but no idea came up. My mind went blank. Completely blank. Nothing was coming up. No plan, no solution, no hope. I was clueless, totally clueless. Terrifying things that would happen to me in this strange place if I didn't save myself began to surface in my head, and my heart began to race in exasperation. That window was the only and easiest way out, seeing that it's also an impossible way, just like the door, which made my heart sink.
I felt overpowered and defeated. I wanted to go home. Yes, I desperately want to, but I know that man would never grant my freedom. Maybe I will have to beg. I have no other option but to beg for my life, that is, if begging would soften his heart. I went back to the bed and clutched it by the side, hugging my legs to my chest as I tried to hold back the tears that were already clustering at the corners of my eyes.
I didn't want to give up, and I never wanted to break down. But as it stands, all hope seems to be gone, and I'm once again at the mercy of the one who abducted me. I have to figure out a way to convince him to let me go, even if I have to lie or tell him the truth about my sister, perhaps that could soften his heart.
"Be strong, Alina." I sniffed and muttered to myself as I quickly wiped the drops of tears that had already left my eyes onto my cheeks
I curled up in bed, thinking about Nissa and the best story to make up that could convince the man to let me go without bringing Nissa into it. He might as well go after her, and I didn't want to risk it. I can't bear to see her suffer in this strange world as I am. I won't forgive myself if that should happen.
I waited patiently all day, counting the time and my thoughts until I almost dozed off, but there was no sign of him. Then when the face of the sun was out of the sky, the door made a cracking sound. My heart skipped, and I quickly sat up on the bed, my eyes darting around, my heart violently pounding against the ribcage as I forced my mind back searching for a convincing reason for my freedom that I could give to him in anxiety as I hesitantly waited for him to walk in.
But to my surprise, he wasn't the one who walked in, and the new sight I beheld threw me into a new puzzle.
