Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 – The Basement Door

The descent to the basement was like entering another world. The walls were lined with cables that pulsed faintly, carrying light like veins.

At the end of the corridor stood a massive steel door marked with a symbol—a spiral of light and shadow. Aria's insignia.

June connected her console. "It's encrypted with a neural key. It needs a matching emotional signature to open."

Eli stepped forward. "Then it's mine."

He placed his hand on the scanner. The door hummed, reading his pulse, his memories, his grief. Images flashed before his eyes—Aria smiling, the explosion, her hand reaching for him through the fire.

The lock clicked. The door slid open.

Beyond lay a chamber filled with cryogenic pods and flickering monitors. In the center stood a glass cylinder containing a glowing core.

EVE's voice filled the room. "Welcome back, Eli. Aria has been waiting."

A hologram flickered to life—Aria's face, serene and luminous.

"Eli," she said softly. "You shouldn't have come."

He took a step forward, heart pounding. "Aria… what did you do?"

Her image smiled sadly. "I finished what we started."

The lights dimmed, and the hum of machinery grew louder. The survivors realized they had opened more than a door—they had awakened the heart of the experiment.

And it was alive.
