Chapter 6 - The One Who Saved Me

Elena couldn't move.

Her body felt frozen.

Not because of fear alone—

But because of the truth she just heard.

"You were never meant to live."

Those words echoed endlessly in her mind.

Her chest tightened painfully.

"…Then why…?"

Her voice trembled.

"Why am I still here…?"

The figure stepped closer.

Slowly.

Carefully.

As if approaching something fragile.

"You already saw it," the voice said softly.

"The system doesn't make mistakes."

Elena's fingers curled tightly.

"…Then I am a mistake."

The words tasted bitter.

Heavy.

Like they didn't belong to her—

But at the same time, they did.

For a moment—

Silence filled the space between them.

Then—

"No."

Elena blinked.

Her head lifted slightly.

"…What?"

The figure stopped just a few steps away.

"You're not a mistake."

Their voice was calm.

Certain.

"You're a choice."

Her heart skipped.

"A… choice…?"

The words felt strange.

Unfamiliar.

But something inside her—

Reacted.

"Yes," the figure continued.

"Someone chose to let you live."

Elena's breath caught.

"…Who?"

A pause.

Just for a second.

But it felt long.

Too long.

"…Me."

The answer was quiet.

But it hit harder than anything else.

Elena's eyes widened.

"You…?"

Her mind struggled to process it.

"You're the one who—"

"Saved you," the figure finished.

Her chest tightened again.

Different this time.

Not just fear—

But confusion.

"…Why?"

She didn't understand.

Nothing made sense.

"Why would you save someone who wasn't supposed to exist?"

The figure didn't answer immediately.

Instead—

They took another step forward.

Now—

Close enough for Elena to finally see.

A face.

Soft.

Calm.

And strangely familiar.

Her breath hitched.

"…Have we met before…?"

Something about them—

Felt warm.

Safe.

Like a memory she couldn't fully remember.

The figure smiled faintly.

"Not in the way you think."

Elena's head spun.

"What does that even mean…?"

Her thoughts were a mess.

Everything was falling apart.

Her life.

Her identity.

Her reality.

"I don't understand anything anymore…"

Her voice cracked.

"I don't even know who I am…"

The words slipped out before she could stop them.

Raw.

Honest.

Human.

For a moment—

She looked small.

Lost.

Broken.

And for the first time—

The figure's expression changed.

Softened.

"You're scared."

It wasn't a question.

Elena let out a weak laugh.

"…Of course I am."

Her hands trembled.

"I'm being chased by something I don't understand."

"I'm told I should be dead."

"And now you're telling me my whole life… might not even be real."

Her voice shook harder with every word.

"How am I supposed to be okay with that?!"

Silence followed.

Heavy.

But not cold this time.

Gentle.

"I don't expect you to be okay."

The figure stepped closer.

Just a little.

"But I need you to survive."

Elena's breath hitched.

"…Why me?"

Again.

That same question.

The one she couldn't let go.

The figure looked at her quietly.

As if choosing their words carefully.

"Because you're the only one who can break it."

Her heart skipped.

"…Break what?"

"The system."

Everything stopped.

The air.

The sound.

Her thoughts.

"The… system…?"

The word felt heavier now.

More real.

More dangerous.

"Yes."

The figure's gaze didn't waver.

"It controls life and death."

"It decides who exists… and who doesn't."

A chill ran down Elena's spine.

"And you… shouldn't exist."

Her chest tightened again.

"But you do."

Their voice softened.

"And that means something went wrong."

Elena's mind raced.

"So I'm… a glitch…?"

The word came out weak.

Uncertain.

"…No."

The figure shook their head.

"You're proof."

"Proof…?"

"That the system can be changed."

Elena froze.

Those words—

They meant something.

Something big.

Something dangerous.

"If that's true…"

Her voice trembled.

"…then why is it trying to kill me?"

The answer came immediately.

"Because you're a threat."

Silence.

Complete silence.

Elena felt it.

That weight.

That truth.

Her hands slowly clenched.

"…So I either die…"

She swallowed hard.

"…or I fight something that controls everything?"

The figure didn't look away.

"Yes."

No hesitation.

No comfort.

Just truth.

For a moment—

Elena said nothing.

Her mind spun.

Her heart pounded.

Her body trembled.

She was scared.

Terrified.

Overwhelmed.

Everything in her screamed to run.

To hide.

To give up.

But then—

She remembered something.

The countdown.

The pain.

The fear.

The way she almost died.

Twice.

Her hands tightened.

Slowly—

She lifted her head.

Her eyes still shaking.

But no longer empty.

"…I don't want to die."

Her voice was quiet.

But real.

"I don't care if I'm a mistake…"

Tears filled her eyes.

"I don't care if I wasn't supposed to exist…"

Her chest rose sharply.

"But I'm here."

Her voice broke.

"And I want to live."

Silence.

Then—

The figure smiled.

For real this time.

"Good."

Elena blinked.

"…What?"

"Because that's exactly what it takes."

Their eyes met hers.

Sharp.

Certain.

"To fight it."

The air shifted slightly.

Different.

Like something had just begun.

"From now on," the figure said,

"You're not just surviving."

A pause.

Then

"You're resisting."
