"Your Majesty, are you still not resting so late?" As the hour and minute hands of the clock overlapped, Luna carefully opened Leticia's bedroom door and asked in a low voice.
Today, Leticia was acting out of character; she wasn't playing games, but instead was leaning back in her chair reading a book.
Hearing Luna's words, she waved her hand without even turning her head. "Luna, you go to sleep first. I need to hurry and finish reading this book."
A book?
Luna walked over to Leticia's side, peeked over, and saw the title of the book: "Research on Age of Gods Magic?"
"Mm, Research on Age of Gods Magic." Leticia nodded. "I originally thought this book was just for show, but I didn't expect it to be quite interesting."
Being able to earn an evaluation of "quite interesting" from Leticia was already considered very rare.
Leticia had previously read through all the books in the Demon Race's library; if she said something was "quite interesting," for others, it would be extremely interesting.
"Can't you read it tomorrow? It's already midnight, you know."
"I have to hurry. It's possible that this book will be taken back early tomorrow morning." Leticia shook her head. At the end of the day, this book wasn't hers; she had just found a righteous-sounding excuse to keep it in her hands temporarily.
If this book really was a collection item of some human, and it was indeed stolen by the person in black they encountered, then once Melanie understood the situation, she would definitely come over to take the book back.
Her time was tight; it was best to finish reading this book during this night.
"I'm not a child anymore; staying up late occasionally isn't a big problem. Don't worry, Luna." Leticia said to Luna without looking up. "You go back to rest first; there might be things I need to trouble you with tomorrow."
"...Yes."
...
"It seems it really was a misunderstanding." Melanie sat cross-legged on the bed, speaking to a woman on the computer in front of her who was wearing a pirate-style eye patch.
The woman on the computer was none other than the leader of a certain special operations team in Central City, nicknamed Cyclops, and its relationship with Melanie wasn't bad at all.
"Yeah, I didn't expect things to be such a coincidence. The place we chose was actually almost the same as where the incident happened." Cyclops held a stack of reports, its expression appearing somewhat troubled. "Sigh, this is going to be hard to deal with."
"Oh?"
"In order to protect your information, before the operation started, I specifically turned off all the surveillance in that area where the fighting happened. As a result, we have now completely lost the trail of the culprit." Cyclops shrugged. Who could have imagined such a mess would happen?
The time and location chosen by both sides were the same, and the outfits of the members on both sides were also the same; this was just absurd.
"Fortunately, that book was kept by you guys; otherwise, my trouble this time wouldn't be small."
"Is that book very important?" Melanie asked. She always felt that Leticia's attitude towards that book was a bit unusual.
A thoughtful expression appeared in Cyclops's remaining eye. "Important? It's not that important; after all, I don't even know what's inside it."
"It's just that the owner of that book is a big tycoon in Central City, and he himself serves as a council member in the parliament. If the stolen goods aren't recovered, I'm afraid he won't let it go."
"But you don't need to worry about this; Senpai Sani will handle everything."
There was one thing Cyclops didn't say: the owner of this book was not only a council member, he was also one of the most stubborn council members who demanded that Hero Operations be brought under parliamentary supervision.
But this wasn't something Melanie needed to know or consider. It was better to leave such power struggles to old hands like Senpai Sani.
Just at this moment, Melanie's phone suddenly rang.
Melanie took out her phone and looked; it was actually Senpai Sani.
"Hello, is this Senpai Sani?"
"Mm, it's me. Cyclops, you log off first." Senpai Sani's reassuring voice came from the phone.
"Damn, Boss Sang, how did you know I was here?"
"Hurry up and log off; I'm very fast." Senpai Sani laughed.
"OK." Cyclops also smiled and then said goodbye to Melanie, "Then I'll log off first."
After Cyclops logged off, Senpai Sani told Melanie the reason for her call. "I'll come to find you tomorrow morning."
"Senpai Sani, are you coming personally?" Melanie blinked. Senpai Sani was a very busy person; why would she suddenly propose to come to her home at this time?
"Some things can't be explained clearly over the phone in a short time. It's faster and more reliable to talk in person... Ah, right, can you also let me meet that little helper you found today?"
"She doesn't really like meeting other people, but I'll try my best." Melanie hesitated. Senpai Sani's status among humans was about the same as the Four Heavenly Kings of the Demon Race.
If Leticia found out, Melanie was a bit worried about whether she would have any bad thoughts.
"Being able to easily defeat an A-rank ability user with precognition using only pure physical strength, your friend is quite capable."
"She is indeed... quite capable."
