Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Returning to the Bakery

"So this is the saintess? How truly holy, heh heh."

"Hehe." Syl chuckled to herself, ignoring the system's sarcasm.

Because she had discovered that the best way to deal with a sarcastic person was to ignore them.

Seeming to notice Syl's intention to go out, Annie asked, "Your Highness, do you still need me to prepare your dinner for tonight?"

"No, no need," Syl shook her head gently and smiled. "I'd like to wander around the city for a while, specifically those streets you mentioned that have good food, Sister Annie."

"Hmm... Then please remember to return early, Your Highness. Don't make Archbishop Aishala worry too much," Annie reminded her. "The Archbishop instructed me many times just a moment ago to make sure to remind you to return early."

"Uh..." Syl nodded, then imagined Aishala enunciating her instructions over and over again.

"Pfft—" She couldn't hold it in. The contrast was just too strong!

Watching Syl cover her mouth to stifle a laugh, Annie smiled and added, "This is also the first time I've seen the legendary, stern Archbishop Aishala care so much about someone... I won't disturb you any further, Your Highness. Annie will take her leave now."

After giving Syl one final reminder to watch the time, she specifically took the pocket watch out of the basket, placed it in a prominent spot, and then left.

"I didn't expect the issue of going out, which I was worried about from the start, to be solved so easily..." Syl sighed inwardly.

It just goes to show that one shouldn't have too many preconceived notions in this world.

When she first heard that the Church of the Goddess of Hope hadn't produced a saintess in so many years, Syl had thought the saintess was some sort of family heirloom.

Now she realized that the saintess was merely a tool for communicating with the goddess of hope.

After confirming that the door was locked, Syl turned to close the curtains before starting to change her clothes.

She was becoming increasingly proficient at changing clothes; she reckoned she could easily put on an even more complex gown if she had to.

Once Syl had finished changing, her entire body was shrouded in a black robe. She pulled up the hood and placed the pocket watch and wallet into the inner pocket of the robe.

After confirming that she hadn't forgotten anything, Syl picked up the gold-rimmed round glasses and gently put them on.

An indescribable, strange feeling enveloped Syl, making her unable to help but lower her head slightly, her mood sinking along with it.

She felt just like one of those dejected people one might see wandering the streets.

From the upper floor of the church all the way to the ground floor, everyone she passed seemed to turn a blind eye to her.

Only when passing by the dining hall did she notice Aishala sitting, facing the outside.

At this moment, Aishala actually had her Spiritual Sight activated. After seeing Syl look at her, she slightly turned her head to the side, and her pupils returned to normal as she deactivated her Spiritual Sight.

Even though Aishala hadn't made any particular move, she gave Syl the feeling that there was a lot of inner activity going on inside her.

Syl was quite interested in discovering Aishala's other expressions. As for age? Age was absolutely not an issue. She was a girl, and she was cute—that was enough.

After walking out of the church gates, Syl looked at the completely darkened sky and the lit kerosene street lamps, feeling a bit excited.

To be honest, she hadn't had much time to relax from the beginning until now; she was either in the middle of an incident or on her way to the next one.

As for tonight... she would give herself a two-hour break to wander around, and leave the thinking about tasks for later!

First, she had to fill her stomach.

Syl looked at the map in her hand while comparing it to the surrounding buildings, nodding from time to time.

The Kos District was at its busiest time, but everyone turned a blind eye to the saintess who had been in the headlines all day. They would even dodge her slightly, but it was as if they didn't see her at all.

"This is too absurd. This Sealed Artifact... unless someone has their Spiritual Sight activated at all times, they wouldn't be able to notice me at all, right?"

Syl reached out and touched the slightly cold spectacle frame; that feeling of loneliness grew even stronger.

Syl stopped focusing on the street vendors and began looking for a nearby alley.

Soon, Syl found a dark, gloomy alley squeezed between two buildings, so dark that the street lamps outside couldn't shine any light into it.

"A good spot..."

Syl didn't hesitate. She reached out, took out her pocket watch and wallet, wrapped the chain around the wallet, and walked toward the alley while tossing the wallet in her hand.

After turning into the alley, at the very moment the wallet was tossed into the air, she spoke calmly: "Physician."

When the wallet and pocket watch fell back down, they landed in a hand wearing a black glove.

"Did the Sealed Artifact go into the card too?" Syl thought with some surprise, while calling up the system panel to look at her saintess card.

Sure enough, the saintess card, clad in a black robe, now had a pair of exquisite gold-rimmed glasses on its face, adding an intellectual touch to the otherwise girlish-looking saintess card.

"This is fine too. It would be more troublesome if I were seen wearing this Sealed Artifact..." Thinking of this, Syl stopped dwelling on the matter and walked directly from the shadows of the alley onto the main street outside.

No one knew that someone had changed their identity inside that Dark Alley; only a few passersby looked with slight curiosity at this person wearing a strange mask.

"Hmm, hmm... This road, it should be this way..." Syl recalled the map in her mind while looking at the nearby landmarks.

Soon, Syl found the direction of the small river. Seeing this familiar grey-black river, she actually felt a sense of nostalgia.

"I was almost at my wit's end and about to drink this river water before..." Syl smiled and touched the wallet inside her black coat. "Fortunately, I have money now."

It was just unclear what the purchasing power of the money in the wallet was.

Syl walked along the river, stopping by the roadside to watch a clown's performance.

It couldn't really be called appreciation; it was more like seeing how a colleague worked. To become a qualified clown, one had to master the art of internal competition.

Of course, Syl didn't watch for long, because she knew all those simple tricks. So, she continued walking until she saw a familiar bakery.

Even though Syl hadn't intended to come here, once she had become the Physician, the thoughts in her mind involuntarily shifted to coming over to pay back the money for the bread.

This wasn't a "Kind-Hearted Card" at all; Syl decided to rename it the "Good Person Card."
