Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 – The Choice

Arjun couldn't sleep that night. His mind swirled with visions of what Varun had promised—control, understanding, and a life beyond the small village he had always known.

He wandered to the river, the same river where he had once dreamed of disasters. Now, its calm waters reflected a different vision: a city full of towering buildings, crowded streets, and a world brimming with possibilities.

In that vision, Arjun saw himself—older, confident, and free. He was walking down a busy street, carrying a notebook filled with stories. People smiled at him, listened to him, and admired him.

And yet… a pang of guilt tore through him. Leaving meant abandoning his family, his friends, the only home he had ever known. He thought of Rohan, laughing by the river, and his mother, tending the small garden behind their house. Could he really leave them behind?

Varun's words echoed in his mind:

"Your gift is meant for more than fear and isolation. But it will never be easy. The path you choose now will shape the rest of your life."

Arjun's hands trembled. Every vision he had ever seen flashed before him—the disasters he couldn't prevent, the lives he couldn't save. And then, the rare moments of hope—the future he could create for himself.

Finally, as dawn broke, painting the sky with shades of gold and pink, Arjun made his choice.

He ran back to his small home and hugged his mother tightly. "I… I have to go," he whispered, tears in his eyes.

His mother, sensing something beyond words, nodded slowly. "Follow your heart, Arjun. The world is bigger than this village. But remember… don't forget who you are."

He looked at Rohan, who stared at him with wide eyes. "I'll… I'll write to you. And I'll come back someday."

Rohan nodded silently. No words could capture the mix of pride, sadness, and fear in that moment.

Arjun took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the choice he had made. With Varun waiting at the edge of the village, he stepped forward, leaving behind the life he had always known.

For the first time, Arjun felt the thrill of freedom and the fear of the unknown. Every step toward the city was a step into the future he had dreamed of… and a step away from everything familiar.

The road ahead was uncertain, but one thing was clear: nothing would ever be the same again.
