Chapter 419 - Regenerative Surgery

Uchiha Kagami came to the Hokage Building to meet with Fumori Masaki and report on his mission.

After the report, Fumori Masaki expressed his satisfaction with Kagami's work.

"You've worked hard these past few days, Kagami." Fumori Masaki's gaze fell on Uchiha Kagami's empty sleeve.

Seeing his expression, Fumori Masaki said, "Now that you're back in the village, it's about time you had your regeneration surgery.

I've already made arrangements for it."

"I've been looking forward to it for a long time." Hearing Fumori Masaki voice his thoughts, Uchiha Kagami said with a smile.

The moment he learned his arm could be regenerated, he had been imagining that day in his heart.

"I knew you couldn't wait." Fumori Masaki chuckled and shook his head.

"After all, knowing your arm can regenerate, anyone would hope it happens sooner, right?" Uchiha Kagami felt this was human nature, and many people must think the same way.

"Alright, I'll take you now.

Tsunade is performing the surgery, and the success rate is at least 80 percent.

I'll take you there." Fumori Masaki said.

Regenerating a missing arm is a very troublesome matter because the cellular composition of an entire arm is extremely complex.

If it were reattaching an arm, it could be completed in a short time, but for regenerating an arm, even with the Strength of a Hundred Seal, an arm regenerated too quickly would certainly have problems.

Only the legendary Yin-Yang Release could instantly create a suitable organ.

To regenerate a perfectly suitable organ without any rejection, a long regeneration process is required.

This medical ninjutsu is called the Living Corpse Reanimation Jutsu.

It is not a jutsu that can be performed independently by one person; it requires the combined efforts of many, because the regeneration process involves precise cell proportioning, which cannot be accomplished by one person's energy, no matter how vast their chakra.

The matter of regenerating Uchiha Kagami's arm had been conveyed to Tsunade long ago.

If it weren't for the limited energy of medical ninja during the war and the lack of necessary concentrated jutsu and equipment, Tsunade would have regenerated Uchiha Kagami's arm at the camp.

Now, Tsunade can perform the treatment without distractions.

Upon arriving at the Medical Department with Uchiha Kagami, the department appeared very busy.

However, arrangements for Uchiha Kagami's regeneration surgery had already been made, so now that he had arrived, it would begin immediately.

"Uncle Kagami, you're here so soon." Tsunade stepped out of the room, looking somewhat surprised at Uchiha Kagami.

"Ah, of course, I hope to recover as soon as possible.

Will it be too much trouble for you?" Uchiha Kagami asked.

"No, Uncle Kagami's business is my business.

I definitely have to make time, and Teacher Kazemori already mentioned it." Tsunade looked at Fumori Masaki and said, "Don't worry, the success rate of the surgery is very high.

Your missing arm will be back very soon."

"I certainly trust your medical skills.

Even your teacher says so." Uchiha Kagami said with a smile.

Although Homura Mitokado was the founder of the Medical Department, it was Tsunade who truly led its large-scale development.

In Homura Mitokado's era, medical ninja had not yet formed on a large scale, and the system was incomplete.

After Tsunade joined the Medical Department, she displayed her outstanding talent as a medical ninja, and with Fumori Masaki's support, she developed the Medical Department to its current scale.

From this perspective, Tsunade was not the first medical ninja in Konoha Village, but she was definitely the most important one.

In terms of her contribution to the advancement of medical ninjutsu, no one had greater achievements than her, not even Hashirama Senju, who possessed superior medical abilities, would have to concede three points.

Tsunade smiled at his words, then turned sideways and said, "Then, Uncle Kagami, please follow me.

Although the success rate is high, the treatment is quite complicated and will take at least several hours to ensure that the regenerated arm has no problems."

"It's alright, I've waited this long, what's a few more hours?" Uchiha Kagami said, and then followed Tsunade towards the operating room.

In the operating room, there was a large-scale medical jutsu array specifically arranged for the Living Corpse Reanimation Jutsu, designed to connect the chakra of every medical ninja involved in the treatment, allowing everyone to cooperate, observe cell regeneration, and allocate resources.

Uchiha Kagami sat cross-legged at the center of the jutsu array, while the other medical ninja stood at the four corners of the array.

Tsunade stood at the main position, responsible for unifying the success of the treatment.

Behind the other three positions were other medical ninja, who would step forward and take over when the medical ninja performing the treatment became exhausted.

The Living Corpse Reanimation Jutsu takes a very long time, and Tsunade alone cannot manage it, and others do not have her vast chakra, so rotation is necessary.

This is why the Living Corpse Reanimation Jutsu, once performed for a limb, requires a considerable amount of time, especially since Uchiha Kagami needs an entire arm regenerated.

Fortunately, the Medical Department has trained a large number of medical ninja, more than and with higher skill levels than in the original timeline, making the regeneration of an arm not an impossible task.

"Uncle Kagami, let me give you some anesthesia.

Because regenerating an arm requires the reorganization of a large number of cells, there might be various discomforts," Tsunade said.

"When you wake up, your arm should be fully regenerated."

Uchiha Kagami nodded, agreeing to the anesthesia.

Although he felt he could definitely endure it, since anesthesia was available, there was no need to suffer that sensation.

He understood what Tsunade meant by discomfort; normally, when undergoing medical ninjutsu treatment, wound recovery would bring a tingling sensation, and that was just for ordinary wounds.

Regenerating an entire arm, the feeling it would bring, just thinking about it made him uncomfortable.

After the anesthetic was injected, Uchiha Kagami gradually fell into a state of sleep.

At the same time, Tsunade and the other ninja began to perform the Living Corpse Reanimation Jutsu.

Vast chakra instantly poured into the jutsu array, and complex, dense healing jutsu emitted a vibrant green light, flowing into Uchiha Kagami's missing arm.

"Listen up, this is the largest organ we've regenerated so far.

Everyone must concentrate.

If any problem arises accidentally, it will be extremely troublesome to remedy later!" Tsunade said loudly.

"Yes!" The surrounding medical ninja responded in unison, maintaining their hand seals and injecting chakra into the jutsu array, using some of Uchiha Kagami's cells as a base for the regeneration process.

Fumori Masaki waited outside the door.

After some time, Homura Mitokado and Koharu Utatane arrived.

They had heard that Uchiha Kagami was undergoing regeneration surgery.

Although they knew he would eventually have the surgery, they hadn't expected it to happen so soon.

"How is it?" Koharu Utatane almost asked loudly, but she immediately realized she was at the operating room door and lowered her voice to ask.

"What are you afraid of?

You know Tsunade's skill level; just wait." Fumori Masaki said.

As the head of the Medical Department, Koharu Utatane naturally knew Tsunade's medical capabilities.

Her momentary concern was just a natural reaction due to worry; the bond between fellow students was very strong.

Having studied under Teacher Tobirama together, regardless of their backgrounds, they regarded each other as family.

Even if some Uchiha clan members harbored resentment, they felt nothing of the sort towards Uchiha Kagami.

His character had been clearly observed throughout their years of studying together, and even Danzo Shimura, that rather cold-hearted fellow, considered Uchiha Kagami a reliable comrade.

"When I heard Kagami lost his arm, I was truly shocked.

For a ninja, losing an arm has too great an impact.

Fortunately, the Medical Department already possesses regeneration technology." Homura Mitokado said.

"Ah, as the head of the Medical Department, I haven't made any significant contributions in this area.

The development of medical ninjutsu is entirely due to Tsunade.

At most, I've had some role in internal affairs." Koharu Utatane shook her head lightly.

For a Medical Department head, having such a low impact on the advancement of medical ninjutsu was truly a source of shame.

"Tsunade is grown now, Koharu, it's about time you handed over your position to her.

Although you can use medical ninjutsu, your expertise isn't there.

You're more suited for internal affairs." Homura Mitokado said.

Although Homura Mitokado's words sounded rather cold, as if implying Koharu Utatane was not capable, Koharu Utatane had long known her fellow student's disposition.

He had little desire for power, caring more about rationally facing issues, and thus, in some aspects, he seemed somewhat unfeeling, yet he also gave an impression of fairness and impartiality.

Koharu Utatane thought carefully and said, "But Tsunade is only in her twenties now.

Is it too early for her to take over as department head?"

She wasn't clinging to her current position; honestly, a department head position with little achievement held no real meaning.

Would someone of her status lack a Medical Department head position?

Koharu Utatane was genuinely worried that Tsunade, being too young, might be impulsive in such an important role.

"What's the matter with that, Koharu?

You weren't much older than Tsunade when you became Medical Department head," Fumori Masaki said.

"If you're truly worried, we can arrange a Medical Advisor position to oversee whether Tsunade can act appropriately in her role."

Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado heard this and thought it was an excellent suggestion.

This way, Koharu Utatane could free up her hands to focus on areas more suited to her, and also monitor whether Tsunade could handle the daily operations of the Medical Department.

It was the best of both worlds, and Koharu Utatane had no objections.

"Speaking of which, I do have a proposal for the Hokage Cabinet regarding some changes to Konoha Village's internal affairs structure in the future." Taking this as an opening, Fumori Masaki shared some of his thoughts.

"It's also time to arrange some important positions for young people to practice.

When we get older, the young people will have gained sufficient practical experience, and taking over will be much easier."

"That makes sense, but does the village currently have so many positions for young people to practice in?" Homura Mitokado asked, somewhat surprised.

"Not now, but possibly in the future.

After the war on Hiruzen's side ends, we'll have to take the opportunity to deal with the nobles who haven't been very cooperative." Fumori Masaki said.

Speaking of this, Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado felt a hint of disgust.

In this war, some nobles were truly uncooperative with Konoha Village, causing them a lot of trouble and, to some extent, affecting the outcome of battles.

Fortunately, Konoha Village's strategic operations were effective; although there were some setbacks, they ultimately won the entire war.

Ninja and nobility have never seen eye to eye.

In the past, due to the precarious situation of ninja clans and their grudges with other ninja clans, they had to rely on armed nobles.

But now, Konoha Village is growing stronger, and with the rise of new ideas, ninjas are gradually becoming dissatisfied with armed nobles.

The lack of cooperation from the armed nobles this time, to some extent, might not have been without the intention of curbing Konoha Village, making them pay a greater price and suffer more sacrifices.

This was disheartening, and there were voices within the upper echelons advocating for teaching these nobles a lesson, but because they didn't want to create direct conflict with the daimyo-led nobility, there was no consensus on how to punish them.

Fumori Masaki's idea was to use the war as an excuse to team up with other nobles who suffered losses or had ulterior motives due to this action, to deal with those uncooperative nobles, thereby forcing the daimyo to punish them.

In this process, Konoha Village could also purchase the land of the condemned nobles, incorporate their samurai to expand its strength, and establish closer cooperation with other nobles.

This was Fumori Masaki's idea.

"Buying land is one thing, but also incorporating their samurai?

Masaki, are you serious?" Homura Mitokado felt as if he had heard something incredible.

Ninja and samurai have always been at odds, which has long been proven, but Fumori Masaki felt there was room for maneuver.

After all, it wasn't unheard of for people to abandon their samurai status and join the ninja ranks.

Take Fumori Masaki's student, Sakumo Hatake, for example; wasn't he from a samurai family who, unable to live within the samurai class, joined the ninja world?

"It's good to increase our strength.

Who knows, we might still need their samurai in the future.

It's good to prepare for that now, to avoid too sudden a change that might lead to excessive opposition." Fumori Masaki said meaningfully.

Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado exchanged glances, their hearts slightly chilled.

As fellow students, they were aware of some of Fumori Masaki's ideas.

What kind of position the increasingly powerful Konoha Village would hold in the future was still uncertain, but there were already some signs.

Just then, the operating room light went out—with the appearance of chakra storage blocks, some simple modern equipment based on chakra systems had slowly emerged.

In the past, there were still kerosene lamps, but now there were lights powered by chakra—the three immediately understood that the surgery was over.
