Chapter 47 - Inside Her Mind

Inside Her Mind

The house felt different the next morning.

Not unsafe.

Not broken.

But… watched.

Isabella stood by the kitchen counter, staring at her cup of tea long after it had gone cold.

Her reflection shimmered faintly on the surface—

Unsteady.

Distorted.

She hadn't slept.

Not really.

Every time she closed her eyes, she heard Alexander's words again.

"We're not safe anymore."

Her fingers tightened slightly around the cup.

She wasn't afraid for herself.

She was afraid for them.

"Mama?"

A small voice pulled her out of her thoughts.

She turned quickly.

Their daughter stood there, rubbing her eyes sleepily.

And just like that—

Everything softened.

"Hey, baby…" Isabella said gently, forcing a smile.

She walked over and lifted her into her arms, holding her close.

Warm.

Safe.

Innocent.

"You okay?" the little girl asked softly.

Isabella blinked.

Then smiled.

"Of course I am."

But her voice…

Didn't fully convince even herself.

The First Crack

Later that morning—

Alexander had already left for work.

Security had been tightened.

Guards outside.

Cameras everywhere.

Everything looked controlled.

Protected.

But Isabella couldn't shake the feeling in her chest.

That something…

Was wrong.

Her phone buzzed suddenly.

Unknown number.

She frowned slightly.

Hesitated.

Then answered.

"Hello?"

Silence.

Then—

A soft static sound.

Her heart skipped.

"Hello?" she repeated.

Still nothing.

Then—

Click.

The line went dead.

She slowly lowered the phone.

"Probably nothing…" she whispered to herself.

But her instincts—

Said otherwise.

The Second Move

An hour later—

Another message.

This time…

A text.

Unknown number.

Her fingers hesitated before opening it.

And when she did—

Her breath stopped.

"Beautiful family."

Attached—

A photo.

Her.

Alexander.

Their daughter.

Taken from outside.

Her hands began to shake.

"No…"

Her heart pounded violently.

They were being watched.

Not just randomly—

Closely.

Personally.

Her breathing became uneven.

"Stay calm…" she whispered.

But panic was already creeping in.

The Mind Game Begins

Another message came.

"He told you, didn't he?"

Tears filled her eyes.

"About his past…"

Her chest tightened painfully.

"Do you know who he really is?"

Her grip on the phone tightened.

This wasn't just fear anymore.

This was manipulation.

Slow.

Calculated.

Her mind started racing.

What did he mean?

What didn't she know?

Breaking Point

Isabella stumbled back slightly, sitting down on the couch.

Her thoughts spiraled.

What if…

What if there's more?

What if Alexander is hiding something worse?

Her heart ached at the thought.

No.

She trusted him.

Didn't she?

Her phone buzzed again.

She flinched this time.

Slowly…

She opened it.

A video.

Her hands trembled as she pressed play.

The screen flickered.

Dark.

Grainy.

Then—

A man appeared.

Not fully visible.

Just a shadow.

A silhouette.

"Hello, Isabella…"

Her blood ran cold.

"You don't know me…"

A pause.

"But I know you."

Her breathing stopped.

"I know how you smile…"

"How you laugh…"

"How you look at him…"

Tears slipped down her cheeks.

"Tell me…"

The voice lowered.

"Do you really think you know Alexander Knight?"

The video cut.

Fear Turns Personal

Isabella dropped the phone.

Her entire body trembling now.

This wasn't random.

This was targeted.

Careful.

Cruel.

Her mind replayed everything.

Alexander's words.

The warnings.

The silence.

What if…

What if she really didn't know everything?

Her chest tightened painfully.

"No…" she whispered.

But doubt had already entered.

And that's exactly what the enemy wanted.

Alexander Returns

The door opened suddenly.

Isabella flinched.

"Isabella?"

Alexander's voice.

She turned—

And ran to him immediately.

Wrapping her arms around him tightly.

He froze for a second.

Then held her just as tightly.

"What happened?"

She didn't speak.

She just handed him the phone.

He watched.

Read.

Listened.

And with every second—

His expression darkened.

Dangerous.

Cold.

By the time he finished—

There was no doubt.

This was war.

"He contacted you directly…" he said quietly.

Isabella nodded weakly.

"He's trying to get into your head," Alexander said.

"It's working…" she whispered.

That broke something in him.

He cupped her face gently.

"Look at me."

She did.

"You know me," he said firmly.

Her eyes filled with tears.

"Do I?"

Silence.

That question—

It hit him harder than anything else.

The Truth and Fear

Alexander exhaled slowly.

"There are things I haven't told you," he admitted.

Her heart sank.

"Because I didn't want this life touching you."

Tears fell freely now.

"But I've never lied about who I am with you."

He pulled her closer.

"And I will never let anyone break what we have."

Her hands gripped his shirt tightly.

"I'm scared…" she admitted.

He kissed her forehead softly.

"I know."

A pause.

"But you're not alone."

Elsewhere

The man watched the footage on his screen.

Isabella crying.

Alexander holding her.

His lips curved slowly.

"Good…"

He leaned back in his chair.

"Let's see how strong your love really is."

Back Home

Isabella sat beside Alexander.

Still shaken.

Still scared.

But holding onto him.

Because right now—

He was the only thing keeping her grounded.

And Alexander?

He had made a decision.

No more holding back.

No more waiting.

This time—

He would destroy anyone who came near his family.

Completely.
