Chapter 333 Darwin's Eyes, the System's New Function
Whoosh!
Leon suddenly waved his wand, and countless golden ancient runes transformed into chains, coiling around Aaron.
Aaron ignored them, letting them bind him.
"I knew this would happen." Aaron spread his hands, which passed through the chains without obstruction, then dissipated into light particles.
"An illusion. Did you think I wouldn't see through it?" Leon sneered disdainfully, then turned his gaze to the other side of the sofa.
Aaron reluctantly dispelled the Disillusionment Charm on him. "It seems my grandfather didn't lie to me; the Darwin Family's eyes can indeed pierce through illusions.
But we've known each other for over ten years. Isn't it a bit much for you to suddenly attack?"
Hearing this, Leon's expression became incredibly complex; grief, helplessness, vexation, and bitterness intertwined, forming a bizarre mask.
"Aunt Lisanna stayed at my house for half a month, and she clearly told Clea that in the future, she wouldn't be the only woman by your side."
what the f... Aaron's eyes widened in disbelief, momentarily at a loss.
She really is my birth mother. Is that something you can just say casually?
"Surprised, aren't you?" Leon sneered. "I only planned to bring out our ancestor's artifact after hearing that.
My sister getting engaged to you was already heartbreaking enough, but I could grit my teeth and accept it, as that day was bound to come sooner or later.
But you can't be too excessive, eating from one bowl while looking at another..."
"Uh... sorry to interrupt." Aaron quickly said, "My mom said that, but I absolutely do not think that way."
"What you think isn't important. What's important is that my parents didn't object, and even thought it was natural.
Clea also chose to accept it calmly. For her, as long as you have her in your heart, that's enough."
"Don't listen to her when she says that." Aaron swallowed with difficulty. "How old is she? What does she know?"
"She knows hundreds of literary masterpieces about love and marriage and can write essays tens of thousands of words long." Leon angrily slammed the table, then looked at Aaron with envy, jealousy, and hatred. "And this is all for some childhood friend, some scoundrel who might become a philanderer.
That's my own sister! Now do you still think I'm being excessive?"
Aaron's eye twitched violently. "Maybe not excessive... I guess!"
"Tsk tsk tsk!
Where do you get the nerve to use the word 'maybe'?"
"Nonsense, I'm innocent." Aaron said righteously, "First, I didn't know anything; all of this was arranged by the previous generation.
There are plenty of people who like me. Is having great personal charm also a crime?"
"I can relate to that, after all, there are quite a few young Witches who like me too." A smug smile flashed across Leon's face, but the next moment it turned serious. "But when it comes to my sister, that's a different story."
Aaron:...I must have lost my mind to try and reason with a siscon.
"Then you should object!" Aaron said with a bitter smile.
"How can I object? Don't tell me you don't know about your special nature?" Leon retorted. "In this world, I might not even be able to control you, let alone other worlds.
I was shocked when I learned this secret. Unscheduled journeys to other realms, uncertain timing—who knows what you'll do during that time?"
Aaron blinked, forcing a laugh as he said, "I personally think my character is still trustworthy."
"Trustworthy now, but what about later?" Leon said eloquently, "People change. What if you stay in another world for a century or two? Are you sure you can always resist temptation?"
Aaron hesitated for a few seconds, unsure how to answer.
"See, you hesitated, you actually hesitated."
"Hesitating means I at least didn't intend to brush you off." Aaron sat on the sofa, took a bottle of malt liquor from Abey's pocket, and chugged it down. "But don't worry too much; it's still very early for all of this!
I'll stall for now; maybe she'll change her mind in a few years."
Leon shook his head. "The Darwin Family's emotional intelligence far surpasses that of ordinary people. Clea never jokes about important matters.
Moreover... you should know about the abilities the Darwin Family might awaken, right?"
"You mean?" Aaron's eyes widened in astonishment. "She..."
"A glimpse of the future." Leon sighed softly. "I don't know when she awakened it, perhaps it was destined the first time she said she wanted to marry you when she grew up."
"Wait, wait, let me process this." Aaron frowned, his mind reeling. After a long silence, he sat up. "What if, and I mean what if, she was really just joking?"
"That would be for the best." Leon shrugged. "My stance can only be neither approval nor objection. As for you... you're on your own!"
Aaron took a deep breath. "You know me; I don't believe in fate."
"Believe it or not."
Leon dropped that remark and went upstairs. He had said too much tonight; if he kept going, he might not be able to resist having a friendly spar with his future brother-in-law.
"How could this happen?" Aaron murmured to himself, a naive and cheerful smile involuntarily appearing in his mind, but he quickly shook his head, casting the image away.
Why think so much?
The future is full of uncertainties; living in the present is more important.
Aaron took several deep breaths and returned to his bedroom with Abey in his arms.
However, lying in bed, he couldn't sleep; the amount of information today was simply too vast.
"Abey! Give me the crystal ball."
Abey immediately rummaged through his pocket and pulled out a crystal clear crystal ball.
Aaron sat up straight, placed the crystal ball on the bed frame, and began to concentrate on Divination Class.
He was only glad now that he had taken Divination Class at Hogwarts. Although the future revealed might not be accurate, and with his current Divination Class skills, he couldn't predict the future he wanted to see, it could at least offer some reference.
Gradually, the mist in the crystal ball was peeled away layer by layer, and the image gradually became clear. The outline of a woman slowly appeared in Aaron's pupils.
But the next moment, Aaron shivered, almost dropping the crystal ball.
He was very familiar with this person, but it wasn't Clea; it was Adrian Klein.
He only saw a playful smile, but he remembered that expression quite clearly. Adrian had looked the same before he 'pruned' him when he was six years old.
Seeing this, Abey jumped in front of Aaron. "Master, what did you see?"
"Nothing, nothing." Aaron forced a smile, inwardly resolving not to do any Divination Class until the scene he just saw came true, otherwise his heart couldn't take it.
After stuffing the crystal ball back into Abey's pocket, he thoughtfully examined the young dragon in front of him; a method to gain a sense of security began to form in his mind.
"Abey, Master will give you a picture of a pretty older sister tomorrow.
You must remember her clearly. If you see her, act cute, don't bare your teeth, and definitely don't make her unhappy."
Abey nodded thoughtfully, then hesitated and extended a paw.
"Deal." Aaron flicked him on the head. "If you behave well, your food allowance will double, but if you don't, it'll be cut in half."
Hearing this, Abey confidently puffed out his chest, indicating no problem.
Having evolved to his current state, he had three skills, but his innate abilities, besides flying, were being adorable. Making a pretty older sister happy was a piece of cake.
Aaron sighed slightly in relief and lay back on the bed.
"System, the upgrade should be finished, right!"
"Upgrade complete. The shop has unlocked a new feature: complete sets of items can be refreshed specifically for 1 magic point."
Aaron paused, then after a brief thought, understood what the system meant.
The ten Ghost Masks were a complete set, but if he refreshed randomly, it would probably take ages to collect all ten masks. But with specific refresh, it was different; it could save a lot of magic points.
"A timely rain!" Aaron said with a joyful smile. "Open the system shop."
[magic Category: @ Aerial Movement (100 magic points, flight speed depends on individual strength); @ Charm (500 magic points, literal meaning, but ineffective against those with strong will); @ Astral Projection (300 magic points); @ Blank; @ Blank]
[Material Category: @ Blank; @ Blank; @ Blank; @ Blank; @ Blank]
[Item Category: @ Gilani's Emerald (50 magic points, the gem's owner will be plagued by bad luck); @ Blank; @ Blank; @ Blank; @ Blank]
Looking at the more than two-thirds blank item slots, Aaron's eye twitched; he himself felt it was a bit too shabby.
Nothing to say, refresh.
However, he had to test the specific refresh function in the item category.
The magic Category was refreshed twice individually, and the two blank item slots were filled:
@ Instant Change (100 magic points, directly equip gear stored in other spaces); @ Undetectable Extension Charm(200 magic points).
The Material Category was refreshed once as a whole, and all five blank item slots were filled:
@ Deep-Sea Octopus Tentacle (5 magic points); @ Seaweed (1 magic point); @ Fire Elemental Crystal (200 magic points); @ Acromantula Venom (10 magic points); @ ThunderbirdTail Feather (30 magic points)
As for the Item Category, he first bought Gilani's Emerald to serve as a collection for Shenming Hall, then specifically refreshed one item slot for a Ghost Mask, and then refreshed the entire category once:
@ lazo mask (2500 magic points, wearer can summon the Black Shadow Legion's Blade Corps, Note: collecting ten masks grants control over the Black Shadow Kingdom); @ Mermaid's Tears (100 magic points, priceless jewel); @ Ordinary Longsword (3 magic points); @ Tiger Talisman (1000 magic points, balances Yin and Yang); @ Piano (5 magic points)
Aaron's attention lingered on the lazo mask for a few seconds, then he thought about his less than two-digit magicpoints, only able to lament that money is always too little when you need it.
Let alone four-digit magic items like Ghost Masks and talismans, he couldn't even afford three-digit magic like Instant Change.
As for the remaining magic materials and other items, he temporarily didn't consider them; either he couldn't afford them, or there was no need to buy them at all.
