Chapter 28 - The B-Rank Threshold

The distortion wasn't hidden anymore.

It didn't bleed quietly into reality.

It pressed.

The sky above the valley had changed.

Not visibly. But structurally.

The air bent slightly.

Space felt… heavier.

"…It's active."

Kaelen's voice was calm.

But focused.

Because this wasn't like before.

This wasn't training. This was a boundary.

Ethan stepped forward.

His gaze locked onto a point in space.

Empty.

But not really.

"…There."

The moment he said it

Reality shifted. Not violently. But precisely.

A fracture appeared. A vertical line.

Thin. Dark.

Then

It opened.

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]

[B-RANK DUNGEON DETECTED]

[TYPE: STRUCTURED FIELD]

[STATUS: ACTIVE]

Silence.

Even the air stopped moving.

Because this was different.

Not chaotic. Organized. Deliberate.

"…It's stable."

Saman whispered.

"…Too stable."

Ethan nodded slightly.

"…That's what makes it dangerous."

Normally, dungeons required interaction.

Acceptance.

System acknowledgment.

Ethan ignored all of it. He stepped forward.

And entered.

No hesitation. No delay.

The others followed instantly.

Because at this point

There was no separation between them.

Only direction.

The environment formed immediately.

A vast, enclosed structure.

Not natural. Not organic. Designed.

Massive pillars stretched upward.

Floating platforms connected by fragmented paths.

Everything aligned. Everything structured.

"…It's controlled."

Krishara said quietly.

"…Yes."

Ethan replied.

"…Which means it can adapt."

That made it worse than chaos.

Because chaos was predictable.

Structure…

Learned.

They didn't encounter enemies first.

They encountered rules.

The moment they stepped forward

The ground beneath them shifted. A grid formed.

Sections separating. Floating.

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]

[TRIAL INITIATED]

[TYPE: MOVEMENT RESTRICTION FIELD]

Kaelen frowned.

"…It's limiting positioning."

"…No."

Ethan corrected.

"…It's testing it."

The first platform collapsed.

Then another.

Movement paths changed.

Random?

No.

Patterned.

Kaelen moved first.

"Void Step."

He disappeared

Reappearing on the next stable fragment.

"…Safe zones rotate."

Saman closed his eyes.

Feeling the structure.

"…Not random…"

"…Sequential."

He moved

Not reacting. Predicting.

Krishara followed.

Careful. Precise.

Nethan didn't rush.

He stepped forward, and the platform held.

Because his presence anchored it.

"…So it responds to stability."

Ethan observed.

The moment they cleared the grid

The dungeon responded. Entities formed.

Not like before. Cleaner. Sharper.

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]

[ENTITY DETECTED: STRUCTURAL SENTINEL]

[LEVEL RANGE: 35–40]

They didn't rush. They positioned. Perfectly.

Kaelen vanished.

Reappeared strike.

Terminal Mark activated.

Instant collapse. Saman extended his field.

Vector Nullification

All incoming attacks lost direction.

Krishara's Vital Domain expanded.

Buffing. Enhancing. Stabilizing.

Nethan stood at the front.

Absolute. Unmovable.

The attacks didn't land. They didn't exist.

The dungeon reacted immediately.

Faster. Smarter. New entities formed.

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]

[ADAPTIVE RESPONSE INITIATED]

"…Good."

Ethan said quietly.

"…Now it starts."

They didn't fight individually anymore.

They moved as one.

Kaelen marked targets.

Saman disrupted the structure.

Krishara maintained control.

Nethan held the frame.

It wasn't combat. It was execution.

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]

[LEVEL UP]

[KAELEN: 29 → 33]

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]

[LEVEL UP]

[SAMAN: 22 → 27]

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]

[LEVEL UP]

[KRISHARA: 25 → 29]

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]

[LEVEL UP]

[NETHAN: 27 → 32]

Ethan observed.

No interference. No correction.

Because now

They were adapting on their own.

But something was off.

Ethan noticed it immediately.

"…It's watching."

Not like before. Not an observer.

A system layer. Evaluating. Measuring.

"…So you've started responding."

His eyes narrowed slightly.

But he didn't act.

Because this was expected.

The first section is cleared.

The dungeon stabilized again.

But deeper inside, something waited.

Stronger. More structured. More aware.

Kaelen looked ahead.

"…Next layer?"

Ethan nodded.

"…Now it becomes real."

Because the first stage was never meant to kill them.

Only to measure them.

And now the dungeon had its answer.
