With Mars now linked to Earth by the "Ceramic Bridge," the Solar System felt smaller, but the mysteries felt larger. Alaric Vance stood in the high-tech gardens of the Mars Spire, looking through a telescope that used light-warping crystals. He wasn't looking at the red rocks anymore. He was looking at a giant, swirling eye of orange and white, Jupiter.
"It's a king among planets, Arthur," Elena said, her voice soft in the pressurized air of the dome. "But it's a violent king. The radiation around it would fry a normal ship in minutes. And the storms... the Great Red Spot could swallow three Earths and still be hungry."
Alaric didn't look away. "The Lunar Library says that if Mars was the 'Second Chance,' then the moons of Jupiter are the 'Secret Safe.' Specifically, Europa. Under miles of ice, there is an ocean warmer and deeper than any on Earth. And the Precursor data says that's where the 'Great Song' is coming from."
---
Going to Jupiter wasn't just about distance. It was about Radiation. Jupiter has a magnetic field so strong it acts like a giant particle accelerator, throwing "Invisible Fire" at anything that gets close.
Alaric couldn't just use lead, it was too heavy. He developed Super-Conducting Magnets.
By running a powerful electric current through coils around the ship, he created a "Mini-Magnetosphere." This forced the radiation to curve around the ship like water around a polished stone.
The Galileo-1. It wasn't built for landing. It was a "Mother Ship," designed to orbit the moon Europa and drop a specialized Cryo-Bot (a freezing robot) through the ice.
---
The High Lords of Earth and the new Governors of Mars were no longer fighting for gold. They were fighting for Legacy. They realized that if life existed under the ice of Europa, it would be the greatest discovery in human history.
"We will provide the 'Acoustic Sensors', Architect," the Emperor of Solis promised. "My people have become masters of the 'Speaking Wire.' We will build the ears that will hear the ocean's heart."
Alaric was moved. The "Dilemma" of the 11th century, where everyone worked only for themselves, was dying. In its place was a Global Purpose.
---
To get to Jupiter quickly, the Ion Drive was too slow. Alaric needed a "Kick." He used a Nuclear Thermal Engine.
He used a small, safe fusion core to heat liquid hydrogen to thousands of degrees.
The super-heated gas shot out of the nozzle with five times the power of a normal rocket.
---
The Galileo-1 left the Mars Bridge in a flash of white light. Inside were four crew members, including Mina, who had become the most experienced pilot in two worlds.
"Mars Control to Galileo," Alaric's voice traveled through the quantum link. "You are entering the 'Gravity Well' of the Giant. Stay behind the magnetic shield. Do not look at the sun without the filters."
"Copy, Architect," Mina said. "Jupiter is huge. It fills the entire window. It's... it's beautiful. It looks like a painting made of marble."
---
As they approached Jupiter, the planet's massive gravity tried to pull the ship in. It was like trying to sail a boat near a giant whirlpool.
"We're moving too fast!" Kaelen shouted from the navigation desk. "The gravity is sucking us toward the atmosphere! We're going to burn up in the clouds!"
Alaric counter with Slingshot Physics.
"Don't fight the pull, Mina!" Alaric commanded from Earth. "Use it! Aim for the edge of the moon Io. Let its gravity 'whip' you around. It will steal your speed and toss you toward Europa."
It was a dangerous "Space-Dance." The ship screamed as it brushed past the volcanic moon Io, but the math held true. The Galileo-1 slowed down and fell into a perfect orbit around the icy moon, Europa.
---
Europa looked like a giant, cracked egg. It was covered in white and brownish ice, with huge "Spider-Web" lines running across it.
"The ice is ten miles thick, Arthur," Elena noted, looking at the radar. "How do we get through that without a giant drill that would take years to build?"
Alaric used the Thermal Melt-Probe.
A heavy, torpedo-shaped robot with a nose made of Radioactive Plutonium-238.
The nose was naturally hot, so hot it could melt through ice like a hot needle through wax. It didn't need to "drill." It just sank, letting the ice freeze shut behind it.
---
For two days, the world waited as the probe sank deeper into the ice. On the third day, the sensor changed from "Solid" to "Liquid."
"We're through!" Kaelen cheered. "The probe is in the water!"
The cameras turned on. The water was pitch black, but Alaric had equipped the probe with Bioluminescent Lures, lights that mimicked the glow of deep-sea fish.
---
What they saw wasn't just water. At the bottom of the Europa ocean, near the warm volcanic vents, were "Forests" of giant, glowing tubeworms and translucent plants.
But they weren't plants. They were Living Antennas.
"They are pulsing, Architect," Argus the robot said, analyzing the patterns. "They are sending a signal back up to the ice. It's a song. A complex, mathematical song about the history of the galaxy."
---
The "Song of Europa" wasn't a message for humans. It was a Galactic Library of biology.
The signal contained instructions on how to regrow limbs and heal nerves using "Sonic Frequencies."
It showed how to harvest the "Tidal Energy" of a planet's pull to create power without any machines at all.
Alaric realized that the Precursors hadn't just left "Tools" on Mars. They had left "Life" on Europa to act as a Backup Brain for the universe.
---
As the data flooded back to Earth and Mars, a new problem arose. The "Song" was so beautiful and the knowledge so powerful that people began to stop working. They just wanted to listen to the "Singing Moon."
"It's a 'Dream-Trap', Arthur," Elena warned. "If people think the 'Song' will solve all their problems, they will stop trying to be better. They will become lazy 'Gods' who don't know how to fix a leaky pipe."
Alaric counter by Filtering the Song.
"We will not release the full library at once," Alaric announced. "Every piece of 'Ocean Wisdom' must be earned. If you want the 'Regrowth Medicine,' you must first prove you have the 'Surgical Skill.' Knowledge without Effort is just a fancy cage."
---
Alaric turned the Europa probe into a Permanent Observer. He didn't take the "Forests" to Earth. He kept them where they were, safe under the ice.
Humanity learned that they weren't the only "Living Things" in the stars. It made them feel small, but it also made them feel connected.
Oakhaven and the Mars Spire became the "Twin Hearts" of a civilization that spanned three worlds.
---
Alaric Vance sat on a bench in the Mars Spire, eating an apple grown in red soil while watching a video of the Europa "Singing Forest." He was no longer the "Engineer from the Future" trying to save a village. He was a Citizen of the Cosmos.
"The 11th century is finally over, isn't it, Arthur?" Elena asked.
"No," Alaric smiled. "The 11th century was the 'Root.' Oakhaven was the 'Stem.' Mars was the 'Leaf.' And Europa is the 'Flower.' The 11th century didn't end, it just finally bloomed."
