Chapter 4 - A lost child

Gojo's Infinity creates an invisible barrier that slows anything approaching him, so it never actually touches him.

In my case, if I could manage to amplify the friction of the air around me, I might be able to create an invisible barrier that stops anything from coming near.

Easier said than done, of course—especially with my quirk in its current state. On top of that, my 6 years old brain would fry if I tried using the Six Eyes at full potential for more than 3 seconds.

But that's a problem for future me to handle

*Knock knock* a soft knock sounded on the door.

Moments later the door to my room opened, and my mother came into view.

She found me sitting at my desk writing on my notebook.

"Nagato," she said gently, stepping inside. "How's your headache? Are you feeling… okay?"

"Mom, don't worry, The doctor said I'm fine. Really."

I grabbed the pen and spun it on my desk, then decreased it's friction. It spun non-stop.

"Look I've been practicing. I can control it better now."

"But..."

"And mom, I think I know why I have a headache"

I grabbed the blindfold and tied it around my eyes. "Now, show a number with your fingers"

She hesitated for a moment but still complied.

She held up three fingers.

"Three" I said.

Four fingers

"Four"

Two fingers

"Two"

No fingers

"Zero"

She froze for a moment, eyes wide.

"My quirk is cool isn't" I said, smiling.

"You can see ? " she asked.

"Yes, and I see even better with my eyes open but it is burdensome" I paused and smiled widely "So don't worry mom"

She looked at me, then leaned forward and grabbed my cheeks gently.

"Okey, my cute little pumpkin"

Pumpkin ? Ah... This a little embarrassing mom I'm already Six - plus Seventeen technically -

She then straightend back up and said

"Since you are fine how about we go shopping together ?"

"Okey, I need something as well" I replied

"Really... what is it ?" she asked curiously.

"Something to cover my eyes with"

"How about your sunglasses"

"They don't work like the blind fold, It still feels a bit burdensome"

"That's quite a problematic quirk you have my sweet little potato"

...Sweet little potato

"Get ready then, we will be going"

We went out

-------<>--------

We arrived at the mall, the noise and lights hitting me all at once.

It is pretty flashy here.

"Let's find something for you first," Mom said gently.

I nodded.

We walked into a small accessory shop filled with rows of colorful items, bands, scarves, glasses, and things I didn't even know the name of.

We approached the salesperson.

"Hi," my mom said with a warm smile. "We're looking for something this cute kid can use to cover his eyes. A something like a bandana or headband"

"Of course, Please follow me." he replied.

We followed until he stopped in front of a section filled with bandanas, headbands, and soft fabric wraps in all kinds.

"Choose what you want, sweetie" mom said.

I stepped closer, scanning the options.

Too bright. Too thin. Too loose.

I kept looking, until something simple caught my attention.

I picked it up.

It was a black headband, stretchy and thick enough to block most of the light. And No need to tie it every time either, practical.

I held it up slightly. "I'll take this."

...

"Here you go," the man said, handing over the small bag.

"Thank you," Mom replied.

We stepped out of the shop.

I pulled the headband out of the bag and slid it over my eyes.

"Better?" Mom asked softly.

"…Yeah," I said, adjusting it slightly. "Much better."

"Good," she said, placing a gentle hand on my head.

-----<>-----

I was now standing in front of a shop, my new headband covering my eyes.

My mother was inside, looking around while I waited near the entrance.

I leaned my back against the wall, then glanced at my hand.

…Might as well.

I amplified the friction in my hand.

A strange sensation spread across my palm, an invisible resistance tightening.

"Let's see…"

I pressed my hand against the wall beside me, then tried to lift it.

It stuck.

"I never thought about it... but I can technically climb walls like Spider-Man does "

For a second, I imagined it—running up buildings, sticking to surfaces, moving like it was nothing.

Nah…

I crossed my arms, unimpressed with my own idea.

What's Spider-Man without webs and super strength...

Spider-man aside I can think really good uses for this.

I shrugged.

I'll think about later

Suddenly, something caught my attention.

A little kid, probably the same age as me, was standing still, looking nervous. Something about him seemed familiar. I slid my headband down slightly to get a better look.

Green hair. Freckles.

…Midoriya.

His mother had to be nearby.

I let my perception spread, scanning the area. A few seconds later, I found her—a woman talking with a security guard a little distance away.

I approached him carefully.

"Hi. I'm Nagato. What's your name?"

"M-Midoriya," he responded nervously.

"Are you lost, Midoriya-kun?" I asked.

"Y-Yes…"

"How does your mother look like?" I prompted.

"She… she has long green hair and green eyes… like me," he replied, fidgeting.

I pointed . "Look. She's right there."

Midoriya squinted toward the direction I indicated. and soon his nervous expression turned into a cheerful smile.

"Let's go," I said, turning and heading toward her.

"Ah—Yes!" he responded cheerfully, falling into step beside me.

After a moment, he asked curiously

"Nagato-kun, what's your favorite hero?"

He was a completely different person when it came to heroes.

"Favorite hero… hmm," I contemplated. "…No one in particular. You seem to really love heroes, though."

Midoriya's eyes sparkled. "Yes! Heroes are so cool! I want to be a hero too! I study all the heroes, take notes, draw diagrams… everything!"

"You're… very dedicated," I said, a small smile on my face

"Of course! If I'm going to be a hero, I have to learn everything!" he added with determination.

We continued walking, the plaza bustling around us, until we finally reached his mother.

"Mom!" Midoriya shouted and ran forward.

She turned. "Midoriya! Are you okay?"

"Yes!" he cried, throwing himself into her arms.

She looked up at me, her eyes softening. "Thank you for helping him."

I gave a small nod. "No problem."

Then, she asked with concern. "But… what about you? Where are your parents? Are you lost too?"

"My mom is shopping there," I said, pointing toward a shop a little ways off.

Just then, I noticed her coming out of the store.

"I need to go. Take care." I added, smiling faintly before turning and running toward my mother.

"Thank you Nagato-kun" Midorya shouted.

I raised my hand in response while running.

***

"Nagato! Where have you been?!" Mom exclaimed.

"I was at the bathroom" I replied

"I told you not to wander off without telling me!"

"Sorry" I replied innocently.

She let go and gave me a small smile. "Good. Now, let's go get some snacks, then go we'll go home, And don't even think about disappearing again, mister!"

After grabbing some snacks we exited the mall and went home.

----------<>----------

We reached home, and I went straight to my room.

I needed to think about what I should do from now on.

I lay back on my bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking.

What an eventful day.

We visited the doctor, registered my quirk, went shopping at the mall… and then there was my encounter with Midoriya.

He looked about my age, which confirmed something for me—I'm probably part of the same generation as the future Class 1-A students.

That means I might end up in the same class as them when I enroll at UA.

Why would I enroll at UA, you ask?

Two reasons.

First…

I don't see myself as someone with big ambitions, but being a hero here is a solid career choice. And helping people is nice.

…well, Stain would hate my guts for saying that.

Whatever. He can go suck an egg, like my grandma says.

Second…

I don't really have a choice. If I remember correctly, by the end of Season 6, the country falls into chaos.

This is a shounen anime, so yeah—the heroes will probably win in the end. But that doesn't mean my family will come out unscathed. Staying passive isn't an option.

The problem is, I only watched for up to Season 6. And even then, I don't remember everything clearly. I know the major events, but not exactly when, where, or how they happened.

So the only option I have is to get involved directly. And since the story revolves around UA… I'll need to enroll there.

*Sigh*…What a hassle.
