Chapter 87 - Chapter 87: The Harvest of the Ten Tides

The adrenaline of the Static-Sprint had faded, replaced by the deep, resonant hum of a village at peace. But while Cinder rested, his faithful companion remained restless. Basalt stood by the stable gates, his obsidian horns still etched with the scars of the God-King's Archive, his coat dull from the caustic dust of the exhaust flues.

"He poured his soul into that mountain for us," Cinder murmured, walking toward the communal storehouse. "It's time he tasted the strength of the Silt."

In the center of the village stood the Arbor of the Decad, a specialized grove where the tribe's horticulturists had spent generations perfecting ten distinct species of trees and ten subterranean vegetables, each infused with a different mineral property of the Chroma-Soil.

The Feast of the Ten Trees

Cinder approached Basalt with a heavy wicker basket. The ram's ears pricked up, sensing the concentrated mana radiating from the haul.

First, Cinder pulled out the Electri-Cutx Fruit. It looked like a pomegranate carved from violet glass, its skin crackling with harmless static. As Basalt crunched into the first one, a visible spark jumped from his muzzle to his horns.

One by one, Cinder offered the fruits of the ten trees:

Electri-Cutx: For neural restoration and spark-gap firing.

Cinder-Pear: A soot-covered fruit that burned with internal warmth.

Vocal-Plum: Which hummed a low, soothing bass note as it was chewed.

Gravity-Fig: So heavy it made the basket sag, intended to densify bone marrow.

Prism-Apple: Shifting through the seven colors of the visible spectrum.

Iron-Apricot: With a skin as tough as leather and a core of liquid minerals.

Silt-Cherry: Small, glowing orbs that tasted of the first rainfall.

Void-Berry: Darker than the night sky, meant to absorb internal toxins.

Amber-Peach: Filled with a thick, honey-like sap that coated the throat.

Sky-Zest: A buoyant, airy citrus that seemed to defy the wind itself.

Basalt's slate-gray fur began to shimmer. The dull patches from the caves vanished, replaced by a coat that looked like polished armor.

The Root of the Tribe: The Ten Vegetables

"Don't fill up yet, big guy," Cinder laughed as the ram nudged his shoulder for more. "We've still got the earth-heart to get through."

From the bottom of the basket, Cinder pulled the hardy, dirt-caked treasures of the underground gardens. If the fruits were the "energy," the vegetables were the "structure."

Copper-Carrot: Long, metallic orange roots that sharpened the ram's vision.

Basalt-Beet: A deep purple tuber that mirrored the ram's own hide.

Quartz-Radish: Translucent and sharp, cleaning the palate with a cold sting.

Pulse-Potato: Which beat with a slow, rhythmic thud in Cinder's hand.

Sulfur-Sprout: Providing the necessary heat for the ram's internal furnace.

Mica-Marrow: A flaky, layered gourd that reinforced horn density.

Glint-Onion: Whose layers were as thin as gold leaf and twice as conductive.

Tectonic-Turnip: A heavy, jagged root that grounded the consumer's spirit.

Lava-Leek: Glowing red at the tips, pulsing with the heat of the deep crust.

Chroma-Cabbage: Each leaf a different shade of the tribe's history.

The Transmutation

As Basalt finished the final leaf of the Chroma-Cabbage, a transformation took hold. The ram didn't just look healthy; he looked evolved.

His obsidian horns, once chipped and graying, now glowed with an internal violet fire that matched Cinder's own veins. The "Magic Dirt" on his hooves didn't just stick anymore—it merged, forming a natural, crystalline shoe that vibrated with every step.

Basalt let out a roar—not of pain, but of absolute vitality. The sound echoed off the walls of the newly built stadium, a signal to the God-King's spies that the rebellion wasn't just surviving; it was thriving on the very fat of the land.

"Good boy," Cinder whispered, leaning his forehead against the ram's glowing horns. "We're going to need that strength. The Conductor hasn't forgotten us."
