Chapter 8 - Admission test.2

The knowledge part of the test ended quickly enough.

It had started, in Place's opinion, very infuriatingly, and had caused him to lose any remaining respect he had towards his examiner.

She had started with questions that even children could answer, and had nodded encouragingly when he answered.

He completely dropped his politeness and answered many of the questions before she could even complete her question.

After some time, she picked up that he knew more than she thought he did and started on the actual questions.

After they ended, Place requested the questions on the optional subjects.

He easily aced them as well.

By the time they ended, Amythrall was in internal turmoil.

She realized that she had managed to get on the bad side of everyone present.

And the Cublue family was a formidable one.

'What did I do wrong?' She thought as she marked down Place's scores. 'Why are they all angry at me?'

"I believe it is part of the second part." Obithal declared as he stood up, and without waiting for Amythrall, he, along with his uncle and his son, started walking away.

Amythrall was taken aback.

This was completely against etiquette, along with a demonstration of how little they thought about her.

She hurriedly stood up and had to almost jog to catch up with them.

As she drew near, another problem arose.

From what she knew, she should walk alongside Obithal, discussing his son's score and other similar empty talk, with Place walking a step behind with the elder man.

But her little experience made her hesitant, especially since they were treating her coldly. She thought that if she tried to walk alongside Obithal and tried to engage in conversation with him, she might worsen their thoughts about her,

Hesitant, inexperienced, unsure, and afraid, she followed two steps behind all of them.

Unaware that all of her actions had been observed by Uncle, who transmitted everything he saw to his nephew.

A glint appeared in his green eyes as he considered a few things.

'She could make a good supplier.' He thought as he observed her through one of the mansion's wards.

'She's a Threst.' Obithal thought back to him, communicating mentally.

'That raw? She's either abandoned or suppressed, both are good.' The mental tone took a thoughtful tone.

'But one requires us to be much more careful.'

'I'll get some checks running, maybe this is a chance.'

By the time their conversation ended, they had reached their destination.

It was an open and empty area, filled with nothing but dirt and dead grass.

"We do all our guard training here. I trust this is sufficient for our purposes?" Obithal turned and asked Amythrall, who pressed her lips together and nodded.

"It is more than sufficient." She gave him a short bow, then walked into the open ground.

Place followed her a few meters behind.

She stopped and turned.

"Are you ready for your physical tests?"

She was surprised when Place shook his head.

"I require a few minutes to warm up." He walked a few steps away and started to stretch.

"Warm up?" Amythrall asked aloud, having no idea what it was.

"He is preparing his body for the task ahead," Obithal called out. "It won't take long. Why don't you prepare the spells for the test until then?"

"...Very well." She nodded after a second, then started to do so.

A minute passed in silence as Place made movements that Amythrall did not understand, and she prepared some measuring spells.

She stopped, having done everything that came to mind, and a few seconds after, Place stopped his movements as well.

"I am adequately prepared now." Place announced.

Amythrall was a bit confused by his wording, but paid it no mind.

"Then we shall begin."

She waved her hand, and the spells she and she had prepared activated as a magic circle appeared and floated above Place, and a screen filled with the information from the spell appeared in front of her.

"Please run as fast as you can to the edge of the field, then come back." She pointed to the closest edge of the field, about a 140-meter round trip.

Place nodded and took off.

Amythrall blinked in surprise, not expecting him to just blast off like that.

There was another thing.

'Fast!' She looked down at the screen in front of her.

The numbers it was showing her surprised her.

'He's still accelerating!' The numbers suddenly jumped up, and a moment later, they suddenly dropped.

"Huh?" She looked up to see that Place had already reached the edge of the ground.

Place breathed steadily as he turned and started walking back.

Amythrall looked back down at the screen.

She flicked a finger, and other numbers came up.

The highest speed recorded by the spell was clear.

14.72 Meters per second.

The passing line was 8 Meters per second, and the best results she knew never passed 12 meters per second without magic.

'What a pity, he doesn't have magic.' She lamented such a waste of talent.

A small distance away, both Obithal and his uncle's brows furrowed as they picked up her thoughts.

'She needs quite a bit of 'teaching'.' Obithal remarked.

'Don't worry, she will change the way she thinks.' Uncle assured him.

As Place approached her, she activated another spell.

"Just punch this as hard as you can, don't worry, it won't-"

*Thunk*

Her words were interrupted by Place's fist striking the floating concentric circles.

As the spell calculated the results, she asked Place a question.

"Have you done this before?"

"Every few months." Place responded as he withdrew his fist and straightened himself.

A number appeared in the middle of the circles.
