Chapter 4 - Defying Fate

The nameless one pondered while sipping his tea.

He was taken aback and visibly shuddered by the clash.

'What terrifying power... But what was that abomination of a man doing there? Why did he hit the woman?'

He let his thoughts linger for a while.

The appearance of the man and their arrival the day before was strangely...felt too connected.

"Hey!"

The sound of a young girl pulled him from his thoughts.

It was Meria. She looked better than before, her eyes glowed with hope as it looked she rejuvenated.

She was running to him, breathing hard as she coughed.

"Woah! Why are you running?"

Meria glanced at him.

"The kind woman was expecting you."

'What? she was expecting me?'

He thought while his lips curved outward as his facial muscles tensed.

It was strange that he was called. He felt that... somewhere that something was very wrong.

"Were the others called too?"

"Yeah! they are outside."

"Alright, I am coming."

That proved to be the worst mistake he had committed.

Everything started to crumble after that.

#

The sun glowed above radiantly, spilling it's glow everywhere. Grass rustled as a gentle breeze flowed through. Dark clouds started to gather as the hot weather turned bitter.

Everyone was there.

Rav was seen scratching his eyes while Maya patiently waited. Meria fondled with her fingers in nervousness.

The noble woman stood opposite them with a grim expression on her face. The head butler was by her side, holding an umbrella. Her coat swayed to the direction of the wind as her hair flowed upward, revealing a scar.

Soldiers surrounded the courtyard, resting their hands on the hilt of their sword.

"Can you tell us?, he is here now."

Maya asked with a puzzled expression.

The woman inhaled a lot of air as her chest puffed as she screamed,

"As enemies of the Empire! I sentence you to death!"

Her voice echoed through the distant lands as rain poured down slowly. Everyone was taken aback, no one able to say anything.

"S-sorry, what?"

Before the boy discern who said, it a large and muscular man treaded towards them like death itself.

Heavy panting could be heard as the man mischievously grinned with joy. Saliva drooled from his mouth as he lunged.

It was unseen and unpredictable.

The victim was Rav.

The monster grabbed his head with great strength and smashed him towards the wall. His speed was tremendous as heaps of dirt flew into all directions.

There it lay,

Rav's headless corpse, etched onto the stone wall. His head been splattered like a watermelon. Hot blood gushed from his head... or where it was supposed to be. It looked like red paint on a white canvas as if a artist toppled the paint over.

The nameless one froze.

His hope of escaping his fate was crushed, squashed like an ant. Rav who had been talking to him before with his grumpy but caring attitude was dead.

The corpse that was there had been a human being, living, breathing...

Maya retched in shock while covering the young girl's eyes. She was trying to hold in her vomit as tears streamed down from her face.

But was the young teen crying? No.

He was too shocked. His mind refused to believe this was true, but his body acted as he grabbed three of them and ran,

Ran and ran.

It seemed like forever to the trio but were they safe?

Maya looked back as she saw the madman charging them as she jerked the young back.

"Take this."

"Wha-"

Maya jolted her precious looking necklace and put it in the teen's hands.

"Just take it and go, go!!!"

Darkness filled the young boy's heart when he saw the body of Maya thrashing against the abomination's body.

Her figure broke violently like a broken mannequin, lifeless and motionless.

The madman picked up her corpse and squashed it into a meatball.

And ate it.

Scarlet red flowed from the monster's mouth as it chewed and chewed and chewed.

"Tasty!"

This statement broke him and his barely remaining sanity was lost.

Nothing mattered now.

The memories he had built with them was for a very short time but it was the most care and affection he had ever received so he charged even when he knew that he was going to die.

The main reason?

He was treated like a human being not an insect.

The man grinned and also lunged forward, bringing his large fist on to the insect that was brave enough to target the elephant.

The outcome was already decided.

Blood gushed and ribs were shattered by the blow as hid body was thrown 10 meters.

The man marched and stopped before the young girl who was shriveling under the might of his gaze.

This was the most enjoyable sight to him, people squandering like bugs knowing they could never escape from him.

The most tasty of all; helplessness

"How is Imus is going to break you?"

The man grinned as he effortlessly lifted the young girl by her hair. She tried to resist very hard but failed.

Then,

A voice surprised him very much.

"Hey, bastard!"

The insect stood up and looked fine, blood covering his coat but nothing more. He had completely recovered.

But how?

The necklace glowed with a very bright and red light illuminating everything and then it crumbled like dust. The amulet had saved him death; a feat impossible.

The nameless one grimaced and frowned,

The necklace saved him and it could save anything so why did Maya give it to him?

Nothing came to his mind but he didn't care.

He just wanted to stall some time for the girl to escape from this one-sided slaughter if she wasn't slain by the soldiers.

The man lunged with more great speed than he had ever shown before. His figure went into a blur as he let out a shriek filled with anger.

Time seemed to slow down.

Something happened to the nameless one, adrenaline took over him as he shifted his entire body to dodge the blow.

Then something happened that wasn't supposed to happen.

The body of the monster was impaled-

Impaled through a sharp and pointed wooden log. His body trembled for sometime before it finally succumbed.

The boy stood there alive

The one with no name had defied fate in this very courtyard.

The ant had slain the elephant.
