Chapter 408 - 408

Marguerite smiled faintly. "Understood. I'll teach her well."

Stacy felt a sudden, inexplicable dread; she feared her days as a member of high society were over. If she barely clung to life, a completely different fate awaited her.

Eddie returned to the Mediterranean office building. Along the shore lay five huge monster corpses already being doused with gasoline and accelerants, ready for incineration.

"That fast?" Eddie took the cigarette his eldest daughter Kailie had barely lit.

Kailie smiled, a glint of pride in her lovely eyes. "Of course. These things are just defective products; once you know how, they're easy to handle. TerraSave has already started selling."

"Good, offload every non-essential asset. It's almost time—will you miss this place?" Eddie chuckled.

Kailie shook her head, her stilettos making her even sexier than Jill. "No. I'm happy as long as I'm with family; my sisters feel the same. Whatever you want to do, we'll stand by you, even into an unknown future."

"Don't sound so gloomy—it's a new life." Eddie spoke with certainty.

"Exactly. I believe in you, just like Jill does." Kailie's smile was radiant.

"If Jill heard that, she'd pull your little ear. Thank you, Kailie." Eddie was genuinely grateful for his daughter's help.

Kailie hugged him. "Silly, you're my dad. If I don't help you, who will? Go on—Zoe just sent a distress call; something else has come up."

"All right, I'll be back soon." Eddie smiled and left.

Watching him go, Kailie remained smiling. The only man she truly respected was her father Eddie Cai—friend, parent, and confidant all in one.

Most fathers and daughters hit generational walls, but with Eddie the girls could joke about anything; once these lady drivers floored it, even the Akina Downhill Ace would bow out.

"Stop staring. Where'd Dad go?" Chelsea flicked her short hair; her valiant look really echoed young Annette.

"Off to save someone—maybe he'll bring back two more step-moms." Kailie lit a new cigarette; the last had been pocketed by Eddie.

"I don't care. That Sherry—humph—I'll only call her by name." Chelsea would never admit it: some girls claim sisterhood to your face while scheming to hook up with your dad and become your step-mom!

In Lanxiang City, A-San Region, Ye Minzhi stood atop a high-rise watching the carnage below; even Shén Yà Pharmaceutical's local branch had been attacked, though she herself was unharmed.

Having already sided with Eddie and received enhancements, Ye Minzhi could fight her way out alone. As for betrayal—

Eddie wasn't worried the mother of his child would turn on him; using a kid to leash a woman is unethical, yet highly effective.

As long as the man isn't scum, the tactic almost always works.

Conditions in Lanxiang City were worse than on the East Coast; the dense population meant zombies multiplied at breakneck speed.

Zombies that devour each other to evolve pose far greater threats than mere numbers suggest.

Jack and his mentor, the wrestling king Billy, were on duty in Lanxiang, covering the civilian evacuation.

Intelligent zombies set an ambush, surrounding Jack's team, with swarms of Zombie Dogs charging in.

These battle-hardened mercs were dropped instantly; only Jack could still fight, but death was only a matter of time.

Bang! A Tyrant was punched flying, shattering mid-air into pieces.

The newcomer moved at blinding speed, beating surrounding Demon Corpses and evolved zombies to death with his fists, then returned to his starting spot.

Black trench-coat, suit, sunglasses at night—who else but Wesker?

"Thanks, man." Jack merely thanked him and prepared to leave.

"You're Jack?" Wesker eyed the little bald head.

"Yeah, that's me—and don't get ideas, I won't acknowledge you." Jack had long recognized Wesker, his so-called biological father.

Chapter 637: Sherry

"I'm sorry for what I did back then—truly," Wesker apologized, sounding surprisingly sincere.

"Forget the past. What do you want now?" Jack wouldn't forgive his real father so easily; he trusted Eddie, his good friend, far more.

Though his mother Lady Yasi had married Eddie and borne him children, Jack still treated Eddie only as a close friend, never as a stepfather!

Wesker didn't mind being cuckolded; he no longer cared. Since abandoning humanity to survive and take revenge on Umbrella, such things meant nothing.

To get through life, a man needs a little green on his head.

"I just got word from your mother and came to see you," Wesker explained.

Jack waved him off. "Cut the crap—Mom never contacts you. She might've remembered you once, but never now; she doesn't dare, she loves Eddie, her heart has no room for anyone else. Times have changed, old man."

Wesker was speechless; he had lied—Lady Yasi hadn't contacted him, nor would she. A devoted wife and mother, she'd never risk ending up like Monica with endless pregnancies as punishment.

"Daniel is attacking this area. Be careful—his target is to capture you," Wesker had to protect his only bloodline.

"I know what I'm doing!" Jack left after saying it.

Around the corner, a woman with short golden hair who looked barely in her teens fought zombies in high heels, smashing a head with every strike.

Seeing her, Wesker felt a pang: his old friend William Birkin's daughter—Sherry.

Sherry happened to be here on business when the outbreak struck and now just wanted to escape the city.

"Hey, beauty—need a hand?" Jack rushed in to help, clearly smitten; who doesn't like a pretty girl?

Wesker shook his head; at least he could be sure Sherry wouldn't fall for his son—two poisoned-second-generation kids would never mesh.

And Eddie wouldn't leave Sherry unattended; any idea of snatching her mid-way was impossible.

Thud! The ground shook as a colossal Mutated Giant appeared, roaring.

Its foot came down, crushing an abandoned tank into scrap.

A Crimson Head Zombie had Sherry pinned; she couldn't break free, and the giant's foot was about to drop.

Eddie appeared from nowhere, grabbed the embattled Sherry, and blinked them both to safety at lightning speed.

Thud! The mutant's foot slammed down, reducing Armed personnel who could not escape to paste.

Still shaky, Sherry yelped, "Ah! Eddie, what are you doing here?"

"If I weren't, what would you do? This is too dangerous—why aren't you watching your back!" Eddie scolded, genuinely angry.

Sherry felt wronged. "You promised we'd go to the amusement park, but you ran off with Chelsea and the others, so I came out to find something to do."

Eddie scratched his head sheepishly, offering his pinky. "Sorry, my bad. Pinky promise—once this is over, I'll take you on a week-long world tour!"

Sherry burst into laughter, hooking her slender pinky with his. "It's a deal. If you break it, you're my little doggy!"

Women are complicated creatures—sometimes childishly naive, sometimes scheming enough to wrap men around their fingers.
