Chapter 398 - 398

"The cost for this period would be astronomical, and repairing the brain would be even more troublesome. To restore the brain to its original state, certain hormones must be extracted from it. Losing this hormone means the person from whom it's extracted is essentially dead, and it would take at least fifty people to gather enough of this hormone. To save one person, you'd have to kill fifty. How do you propose to save them?" Eddie added.

Jessica, Lisa, and the other two looked at Eddie with strange expressions. They knew their husband wasn't such a merciful person.

He would do anything to save them.

"Would you do that?" Zoe suddenly asked.

"If necessary, I would, provided my family needed it. I've never been a good person. I only know that I need to protect my family's safety; only then do I use my talents to create medicines and vaccines." Eddie smiled without reservation. Everyone has to make sacrifices, after all. Selflessness isn't his style, and he would never be a bleeding heart.

These words plunged Mia and Zoe into contemplation. They couldn't comment on such matters, nor could they articulate their thoughts.

Was it right or wrong? No one knew the standard. Was it really necessary to distinguish between good and evil so clearly?

Jessica and the other two women, however, watched with sparkling eyes. They were indeed the beneficiaries in this matter, which was why they would protect Eddie at all costs. Giving and taking were relative; they were simply repaying him.

"Have you done it?" Mia asked with some hesitation.

"Yes." Eddie replied simply.

"You're really honest, not hiding anything at all." Mia suddenly broke into a pure smile. A man who prioritizes his family is the kind of man a woman looks for.

Superheroes? That's the public's choice. No woman wants a husband whose future is uncertain; they need stability.

Zoe, however, was somewhat puzzled and horrified. She couldn't imagine her idol having experienced something so cruel.

Mia and Zoe's life experiences dictated that their understanding of events would differ.

Eddie stood at the edge of the rooftop, constantly observing, eventually locking onto a twisted monster.

This was a monster covered in tentacles with a humanoid body, still retaining its sanity. Under its control, aimlessly wandering zombies began to gather, slowly advancing in one direction.

Zombies could be controlled?

This discovery made Mia somewhat curious. She was very puzzled about what Eddie was thinking.

"Someone conspired all this, but I don't know who they're retaliating against." Eddie flicked away his cigarette butt, then surprisingly pulled out a chair and began sunbathing.

This action puzzled Zoe. "Eddie, what are we doing now?"

If she hadn't known her mother, Marguerite, was working as a nanny for him, Zoe would have lost her temper, even if he was her idol.

His actions were too strange, making it impossible for her to guess what he wanted to do.

Not saving people, just escaping. After finally reaching the rooftop, he was now sunbathing.

All sorts of confusion and doubts made Zoe feel lost; her thoughts simply couldn't keep up with Eddie's pace.

Mia, however, stood quietly. After a while, she also pulled up a chair and sat down with him, as if nothing concerned her.

"Waiting, waiting for the best moment. The zombies below are controlled by some kind of monster. They have evolved to a new stage that we cannot fight. Just wait patiently." Eddie explained calmly.

Zombies evolving? Zoe was incredibly surprised when she heard this news. He was a leading virologist; he couldn't be lying to her.

A new controllable virus created by combining the foundation of the Plaga parasite with the mild yet violent nature of the C-Virus.

These zombies would be much stronger than ordinary Ganados and Majini, making them excellent high-level cannon fodder.

Carla probably wouldn't have imagined that the C-Virus she created would be used in such a way, but it wasn't a waste of her creativity.

Chapter 624: Mia's New Contract

After understanding, Mia also picked up a beer and toasted with the man, not worrying about anything else.

No matter how chaotic it got here, with the Federation bearing the brunt, she wasn't worried at all.

Zoe was a bit helpless. She was still young, full of passion and drive, with confusion and anxiety. She couldn't yet calmly watch the show.

Jessica and the other three female bodyguards stood still, unmoving. Through their full-coverage helmets, only their beautiful eyes were visible.

Their eyes were cold, and they wore special lightweight clothing, like steel Valkyries.

Screams still echoed from downstairs, and in other tall buildings, many people had also run up, attempting to take refuge there. The effect was quite good; at least after blocking the stairwell doors, the zombies couldn't rush out, and without a target, they became less violent.

Eddie noticed that many well-fed zombies in the building had begun to cocoon, actively secreting substances for reorganization and decomposition.

And numerous arthropod limbs extended from the cocoons—they were the arthropod limbs of the Plaga parasite!

"Using the Plaga to control zombies?" Eddie's eyes flickered a few times. That thing usually appeared on the Black Hippo Continent. Strange, why was it here now?

"What Plaga? The E-Mold can also control human minds." Mia casually revealed her work content.

"Oh? It seems you've developed something incredible again, beautiful. Don't you think the world is getting more and more dangerous?" Eddie raised his beer bottle, making an inviting gesture.

Mia clinked her beer bottle with his, a smile blooming on her face. "It is indeed very dangerous, but compared to future dangers, current poverty is the most terrifying. E-Mold is a very frightening thing; it can greatly increase human bodily functions, enhance strength and healing speed, turning ordinary people into superhuman beings."

"That's truly terrifying; everyone would want that kind of side effect, right!" Eddie laughed. What kind of side effect was that? It was a superpower, wasn't it? Who would refuse such a side effect?

"But as time goes on, the infected will gradually turn into a mindless fungal beast, eventually becoming a wild beast that could appear at any moment. This is chronic suicide, and turning enemies into superhumans, if control is lost, is just funding the enemy!" Mia sighed.

"Then why are you still researching it?" Eddie asked curiously, ignoring the screams below.

"I'm just an employee, not the person in charge. I don't want to, but if I don't do this job, besides having no money, I'll also be hunted down. This is a secret, a secret that cannot be spoken." Mia shook her head, her expression somewhat pained. The choice between material wealth and conscience was difficult to make; without money, nothing was possible.

Eddie was quite glad he started his own company back then. Now he could make money lying down, with no worries about food or drink.

With the virus enhancements, his wives didn't need any cosmetics; each one was a natural beauty, like a lotus emerging from clear water, untouched by carving.

"Are you telling me this because you want my help? But I have a question: since it's a secret, shouldn't your actions be monitored?" Eddie raised a question.

Mia said with some embarrassment, "They were, but they died in the chaos just now. I don't want to work at Glory Pharmaceutical anymore, Eddie. Can you help me? I didn't know before, but recently I discovered they're experimenting with embryos, which is incredibly cruel. I don't want to keep making mistakes. Do you think I still have a chance?"

"Of course, you have a chance. If you want to leave, I can take you anytime." Eddie nodded. Helping others, he often helped others, doing good deeds without seeking recognition. On holidays, he would help old ladies cross the road, and doing one good deed a day was his daily routine.

Uh, who is 'doing one good deed'? Enough, is this like college, where making memes is fun?

Mia was somewhat surprised; she hadn't expected things to go so smoothly, requiring almost no effort. "Aren't you afraid I'm a bad person?"

"No, I trust your character, and I trust my own judgment. Welcome to my team." Jiang Yifu smiled and extended his hand. The other party was an expert with considerable accomplishments in virology; her joining his team would be the icing on the cake.

Alexia and Alex, two top geniuses, also needed helpers. And the assistant position wasn't just for someone pretty; talent was also required. If you lacked talent, then sorry, turn left and take bus number 18.

Mia suddenly broke into a sweet smile. "You won't misjudge me, but I have one more request: can you save a girl named Eveline? She's being tested and trained as an experimental weapon."

Eveline? Eddie's expression was a bit strange. Silently controlling enemies, causing mind control—this method was indeed quite miraculous.

But sorry, his wife, Alexia, had already researched and accomplished it.

So there was nothing to be surprised about; one more Eveline was just one more subject for observation.
