Chapter 60 - The Gate Beyond the First World

The gate wasn't what Kaito expected.

There was no grand structure.

No towering arch.

No overwhelming pressure.

Just a quiet space at the far end of the world, past the courtyard, past the training grounds, past everything Kaito had known for six years.

A single opening.

Still.

Waiting.

Kaito stood in front of it, hands at his sides, eyes steady.

"…So this is it."

"Yes."

Nasukawa stood beside him.

For once, there was no distance between them.

No teacher and student.

Just two fighters at the edge of something new.

Kaito looked at the gate.

Then...

"…Before I go," he said, "finish it."

Silence.

"…All of it."

Nasukawa didn't ask what he meant.

"…This world," Kaito continued. "You said it was built."

"Yes."

"…So who built it."

A pause.

"…People you haven't met yet."

"…Convenient answer."

"It's the correct one."

Kaito frowned slightly.

"…So what, some higher-level fighters just made this place?"

"Yes."

"…Why."

Nasukawa's gaze didn't shift.

"…Because worlds like this are necessary."

"…For what."

"…To prevent chaos."

Silence.

Kaito's eyes narrowed.

"…Explain."

"If individuals like you were allowed to grow freely in ordinary worlds," Nasukawa said, "they would destabilize everything around them."

"…So this place…"

"…Is a controlled environment."

"…A cage."

"…A cradle."

Silence.

Kaito didn't argue that.

"…So you raise fighters here," he said, "until they hit the limit."

"Yes."

"…Then send them out."

"Yes."

"…Into worlds that can handle them."

"Yes."

Kaito nodded slowly.

"…And it's isolated."

"Yes."

"…So people like the Black Order can't just walk in."

"Yes."

"…Unless someone lets them."

"Yes."

Kaito let out a quiet breath.

"…That makes sense."

A pause.

Then...

"…So why now," Kaito asked. "Why do I have to leave right now."

Nasukawa didn't hesitate.

"…Because you've reached the maximum this world can contain."

Silence.

"…Contain," Kaito repeated.

"Yes."

"…You mean if I stay…"

"…You will stagnate."

"…That's it?"

"No."

Kaito looked at him.

"…Then what."

"…And they will find you."

Silence.

The words landed clean.

No weight added.

No exaggeration.

Just truth.

"…The Black Order," Kaito said.

"Yes."

"…They can't enter here easily."

"No."

"…But they can wait."

"Yes."

"…And I can't stay hidden forever."

"No."

Kaito nodded once.

"…So it's either leave now…"

"…Or be found later."

"Yes."

"…Then it's not really a choice."

"No."

Silence.

Kaito looked at the gate again.

"…Good."

Nasukawa watched him.

"…You don't hesitate."

"No."

"…Why."

Kaito's voice stayed calm.

"…Because staying here doesn't make me stronger anymore."

A pause.

"…And it doesn't keep me safe."

"Yes."

Kaito nodded.

"…Then there's no reason to stay."

Silence.

The wind moved slightly through the open space.

Then...

"…There's one last thing," Nasukawa said.

Kaito glanced at him.

"…Go on."

"…Where you're going," Nasukawa continued, "no one will know you."

"…Good."

"No one will care about what you've done here."

"…Better."

"No one will guide you the way I did."

Kaito smirked slightly.

"…I figured."

"…And no one will protect you."

Silence.

Kaito's expression didn't change.

"…I don't need that."

Nasukawa watched him.

"…Good."

A brief pause.

Then...

"…The dojo," Nasukawa said.

Kaito looked at him.

"…What about it."

"I've already chosen one for you."

"…Of course you did."

"It will suit you."

"…We'll see."

"It is located in a martial city on the Stage 1 world."

"…Got a name."

Nasukawa shook his head slightly.

"You'll find it."

Kaito smirked.

"…That sounds like you."

Silence.

Then...

"…This is where we stop," Nasukawa said.

Kaito didn't respond immediately.

"…Yeah," he said quietly.

"…I know."

A pause.

Neither of them moved.

Six years.

Countless fights.

Endless training.

All of it...

Ending here.

"…You did well," Nasukawa said.

Kaito glanced at him.

"…I know."

A faint smirk.

"…Don't get soft now."

"I'm not."

"…Good."

Silence.

Then...

"…Next time we meet," Kaito said.

Nasukawa looked at him.

"…I'll be stronger."

"Yes."

"…Not just stronger than I was."

A small pause.

"…Stronger than you."

Silence.

Then...

"…Good," Nasukawa said.

Kaito nodded once.

Then turned.

No hesitation.

No looking back.

He stepped toward the gate.

And for the first time...

There was nothing holding him in place.

Not the rankings.

Not the fights.

Not the past.

Just forward.

He stepped through.

...

The world changed instantly.

The air felt heavier.

Not oppressive...

But dense.

Alive in a way the training world never was.

Kaito's feet touched solid ground again.

But it didn't feel the same.

"…Yeah," he muttered.

"…This is different."

The space around him stretched wider.

Buildings rose in the distance.

Voices carried faintly through the air.

The presence of other fighters...

Everywhere.

Not controlled.

Not contained.

Real.

Kaito took a step forward.

Then another.

His body adjusted slowly, instinctively.

Not struggling...

But aware.

"…Good."

He looked ahead.

The city spread out in front of him.

Unknown.

Unmapped.

Unfamiliar.

Exactly what he needed.

He started walking.

No hesitation.

No direction given.

Just forward.

Somewhere in that city...

There was a dojo waiting.

And for the first time...

Kaito wasn't entering as someone climbing to the top.

He was entering as someone starting over.

But this time...

He knew exactly why.

Kaito Arata kept walking.

Toward the next stage.
