Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

3rd Pov:

The world of Mato, the home of the demons known as Shuuki. Its lands are barren with jagged rock formations the sky war bright purple with two heterochromic moon's.

Standing hunched over a cliffs edge, a person watched the demons down below wonder aimlessly, his clothes has rips with blood staining them some red from his own wounds, some green from the demons he killed. His left eye has two wide claw marks starting above his eyebrow and going diagonal to his cheek.

His eyes scanned the ranks of the Shuuki below, searching for a specific demon but there are no signs of it making him grit his teeth and his fists clench tighter.

"Damn coward" He muttered under his breath with his brow furrowing in frustration before looking at an empty spot behind the demons not too far.

"No way back other than pure luck" Xicor mumbled to himself, his eyes then move across the land like an artist inspecting someone's art.

"Looks like a shithole compared to other demon realms I've been through in games and read about in books" Xicor said before he started to walk away from the demons.

"First things first is recover from these injuries that Shuuki did to me" he muttered to himself as he held his shoulder.

The whole time of finding a place to recover is difficult, due to how aggressive and how numerous the Shuuki are, they lay underground like trapdoor spiders waiting for prey to get close enough for them to burst out of the ground.

Xicor sensing the presence of the ambushing demons leap from rock to rock, at the moment the best possible spot for him to hide is like high ground for his mobility.

"Damn, no rolls after making that freak run, guess I need to properly defeat is or kill it" Xicor said before closing the system and continuing his search but exhaustion is slowly creeping through his body as his fingers twitch slightly and his movements become slightly sluggish.

Soon he found a small hole in the side of jagged rock spire, big enough for him to fit in and definitely not bit enough for any Shuuki to fit through.

Xicor leaped to one of the jagged rocks closest to the hole before jumping up high and grabbing the ledge of it with one hand, gritting his teeth he lifted himself up with his free hand grabbing on the ledge as well.

Rolling in the hole, Xicor didn't bother adjusting himself as exhaustion is hitting him hard. With his eye closed, he brought a hand to the slash mark on his face where his eye is pretty much gone as his eyelids are permanently shut.

"An eye for an eye guess" he muttered to himself, remembering how he shot the oni's eye with a piercing blood.

His blood manipulation goes at work at repairing the damage to his body but as good as it sounds it is not regeneration, blood manipulation can only make stitches as to stop the bleeding.

With all the strength he has, Xicor crawls to the end of the small cave where it is more spacious inside, he leaned his body next to the entrance of the spacious room and let his body stop the bleeding so he can properly gain his strength back.

All the cuts begin to disappear but the most troublesome wound is the slash on his face, while the bleeding has stopped it still left a scar on his face.

With his body repaired, he let his exhausted body rest. His soft yet hoarse breathing bounced off the walls but never reached the outside.

Back in the human world, the villagers were brought to a hospital for their injuries and their minds. The most traumatised are the children which are only 5, even though all would take weeks for their minds to heal one of them is the exception.

Kyouka sat down on a chair staring outside with bandages wrapped around her arms, legs and her forehead. Her mother is on the bed next to heart with bandages similar to Kyouka's. Her soft breathing is blocked out by the heartbeat monitor on the opposite side of the bed with a blood bag providing her the blood she has lost from her wounds.

Kyouka watched the rising sun in a daze as a flock of birds go by it, her mind repeats the events of last night. The Shuuki's invasion of her village, the murder of her friends and the people she grew up with, their screams and pleas echo around her mind.

Yet Xicor fighting back with abilities she didn't even know he had, a part of was angered at him for keeping it a secret and another part of her understood why he kept it a secret. Fear makes people wary of any action and Xicor barely knew them but he trusted them enough to fight rather than run away and let them fend for themselves.

But all were drowned out by guilt, guilt of letting him sacrifice himself for the small survivors that don't even think they can even go forward anymore.

But not her, her eyes lit up like a blaze of determination. She would train everyday, without rest and gain an ability to overcome her weaknesses to avenge his death and if there is a sliver of a chance he is alive, she'll slice any Shuuki she gets in her way by joining the demon defence corp.

But before anything, she needs to recover as fast as possible and immediately head to a sword school she heard about from one of the elders she overheard saying that is training students in joining the demon defence corp, not only in swordsmanship but also in hand to hand combat against the demons.

"Kyouka" a voice broke her out of her thoughts.

Turning to the source, she sees Yami standing there with a face of concern and something Kyouka can't put her finger on.

"What is it Yami?" She asked now fully facing him.

"I came over to see... how you're doing... after everything that happened" He hesitantly asked.

She tore her eyes from him, staring back outside, "I'm doing okay but... I can't help but feel angry... sad... powerless... yet they are drowned out by determination" she turned back to Yami, staring directly into him.

"Determined to fight against these demons, determined to ensure this doesn't happen again, determined to not be coward and let my friends die for me and most of all, determined to kill the Shuuki that took Xicor away from me" she said with resolve.

Yami blinked a few times, processing every word she said before a soft smile touched his lips, "that's what I love about you Kyouka, you don't care if its dangerous or not, if you set your mind to something no one can stop you until your goal is reached"

Kyouka blinked a few times, zeroing in a few words but ultimately one caught her attention the most, 'love'.

She never even thought of love, she felt that it wasn't something she would need in life with goal she has set but now thinking of it something did come to mind when came to love but she's too young to think of it now so she pushed it to the back of her mind but that didn't stop her of thinking the preferences of her ideal partner.

And Yami was not that, he was too soft, too clingy like a lost puppy who doesn't want to separate from their sibling, he was most definitely not her type.

She knew of his weird obsession of being in close proximity of her and the glare he sends to any boy she chats with but she had no clue why he did that.

thinking it was some parasite or some kind of alien waiting for everyone to leave them alone but with the topic of love in her mind now, she now has an answer to his weird obsession of her, stupid childhood crush.

She let a long sigh and gave him a stern stare that made him take a step back, without her noticing he had taken several steps closer to her while she was in her mind which only changed the stare into a glare.

"Yami I don't love you, if anything you're like a lost puppy but the difference between them is that puppies are cute and friendly to all but you push everyone away from me just so you can only have me" she said her voice growing more and more angrier.

"So please, leave me alone" she finally said, leaving no room for argument.

Yami stood there, frozen, his mind echoing her words like a movie on replay before he clenched his fists and bit his lower lip that it almost threatened to spill blood.

"I understand Kyouka, if you need anything, you know where to find me" he said before walking back to his bed turning his back to her.

In another different location, inside a dark room with the only source of light being the monitor of a computer with a face of an elderly woman.

Sitting in front of the monitor at the desk was a woman dressed as a policewoman, "we got every detail we could from the remaining villagers, my lady"

"And what do you have?" The elderly woman questioned.

"Subject Delta was indeed living at the village for some time but during the Shuuki invasion, he led them back through the gate and his current location is lost again" the police woman reported.

The elderly woman's fingers twitch slightly at her chin, "what of Subject Charlie's condition, what is the approximate time until he transforms?"

"I have received reports saying he is at 34% but unlike the woman, he is loosing his sense of humanity, he is becoming more of an animal than anything" the policewoman said.

"An animal is easier to control than a person who thinks for themselves" the elderly woman sternly said.

"Y-Yes my lady" the woman stuttered, the tense silence went on for a bit until the elderly woman opened her mouth again.

"Inform our agents inside the demon defence corp of Subject Delta's presence in Mato and ensure they are to capture him alive and if any of the other demon defence force members get involved then maintain secrecy"

"I understand my lady" the woman said before the connection was cut off.

7 Hours later:

Xicor's chest raised and lowered, showing his steady and peaceful breathing. The sound outside barely reached inside the cave to the point they barely become whispers.

His single, working, eye slowly opened. His mouth opened wide as a big yawn exited out, his sharp, almost canine teeth gleamed in the dull room.

Xicor stretched his body and rolled his shoulders and legs, now that he is in a better shape he can get a proper look around his new little home.

"Not bad but I'm gonna need to find more spots to live at some point as I grow up" he said looking around the room, "considering I'm in a dimension filled with demons, having a home then having it destroyed and then spending days or weeks finding another one and it'll be too late"

Xicor grabbed a nearby fallen rock and pushed some cursed energy into it before placing it back where he found, "there, I should be able to find my way back with that"

He began to crawl through the hole before he hunched on the ledge with a hand on the cliff, his eyes surveyed the distant landscape, "Christ, this place is dead, who in the right mind would want to be here?" Xicor commented.

He blinked a few times before scratching the back of his head, "oh yeah, this dumbass"

"Food and water are a must, but where can I find some, if that group of demon hunters are formed, they may have a base or two set up somewhere given how greedy humans are to extra land and to fight back at an enemy" Xicor mumbled as his eyes narrowed to the distance.

He pushed his senses to the limit but all he could sense was the negative energy of the demons. They were easy to sense as they come off as hungry, mindless and rabid, for the special demons such as that oni, they give off a sense of greater strength and an overwhelming presence.

For humans with abilities it is unique to each individual but ultimately different from the Shuuki's.

"Better start searching before I get hungry" he said before leaping down to a jagged rock formation, his body move like a blur, jumping from rock to rock, purposely avoiding any fights until he has established a way for him to gain his full strength back after a fight that injures him.
