Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Let's Talk About Your Attempted Escape

Above the surface of Sanguinem.

Yuichiro led everyone out of Sanguinem, seeing no pursuers behind them.

They ran for an unknown amount of time until some of the children truly couldn't run anymore; only then did Yuichiro lead them to a stop.

Everyone finally took a look at their surroundings, finding themselves on a small hill surrounded by endless snow.

Byakuya Akane had a worried expression on her face.

"Yu, will Mika and Luke be okay?"

The other children also looked over.

Yuichiro clenched his fists.

"Don't worry, Mika and the others will definitely be fine! We have to believe in them! One day, I will snatch Mika back from those Vampires!"

But he clearly lacked confidence when saying this; could Mika really still be alive? And would he ever have the strength to contend with Vampires?

Initially, he did harbor fantasies about defeating Vampires, but after witnessing Ferid's power, he felt the chances were extremely slim.

However, he soon thought of Luke again; that guy was clearly human too and looked about the same age as him, yet he could actually trade blows with Ferid.

Yuichiro secretly encouraged himself: One day, I will become stronger than all the Vampires!

"Good, found them. Huh?! Seven?"

A voice rang out in the silent dark night.

Yuichiro's nerves were still tense; hearing the voice, he quickly turned around, subconsciously shielding everyone behind him.

The children were also startled and hid behind Yuichiro.

Guren stepped out from the forest, removing his hood to reveal his head, with the two beauties Yukimi Shigure and Sayuri Shinozaki silently following behind him.

"Just as the 'prophecy' indicated, from the Hyakuya Testing Grounds that destroyed Japan... seven test subjects have appeared."

Guren's voice clearly paused in the middle; seven children were somewhat beyond his expectations, exceeding the number in his deal with Ferid.

But Guren didn't dwell on this point too much.

"Children, in order to eliminate the Vampires, we need to use you."

Guren was straightforward, directly using the word "use."

Yuichiro saw that Guren didn't have any Vampire characteristics and realized his identity as a human.

Hearing that the other party wanted to eliminate Vampires, Yuichiro wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes, looked at the children, and nodded in agreement.

"Just what I wanted!"

Most of his family from the Hyakuya Orphanage were there, so Yuichiro's emotions had support; he didn't throw himself into Guren's arms and cry like in the original story.

Byakuya Akane and the children behind Yuichiro looked at Guren's face, feeling as if they had seen him somewhere before... Luke obediently followed Krul back to the palace.

Krul sat back on her throne, propping her head with one hand as she looked down at Luke, who was standing there like he was in time-out.

Krul had a subordinate bring a human child over, pointing at the unconscious child as she said to Luke.

"Come, as your first meal as a Vampire, drink the blood and you can become a true Vampire, possessing eternal life from now on."

Without even thinking, Luke firmly refused.

"I don't want to drink human blood!"

Krul wasn't surprised by this; all humans said the same thing when they first became Vampires.

Krul stared calmly at Luke, her tone devoid of emotion.

"If a Vampire doesn't drink blood for a long time, they'll turn into a Demon~"

I know that, of course.

Luke thought to himself.

But this shota body of mine is barely taller than you; at least let me grow for a few more years! After all, your appearance is fixed once you consume human blood.

But naturally, Luke couldn't say that reason out loud.

"I absolutely won't drink it, even if I turn into a Demon!"

Seeing that Luke didn't seem to be joking, Krul felt a bit of a headache; after thinking for a bit, she proposed another option.

"I'll give you another choice."

Krul stood up, picked up a goblet from beside her seat, sliced her wrist with her nail, and let her blood drip into the cup.

"Drink my blood. That way you won't turn into a Demon, and you won't have to face moral condemnation. How about it?"

Looking at the cup Krul smilingly offered, Luke hesitated for a moment but still shook his head.

He wanted to bite Krul directly like Mika did; after all, he had been bitten so many times, he had to get even today.

But Luke had misjudged his own position; Mika was a Seraph and might be key to helping Krul, but Luke's blood just tasted good.

She's already saving you, and you're being picky?

Without a word, Krul grabbed Luke's chin, forced his mouth open, poured the blood in, and then snapped his jaw shut, making him swallow it.

Luke was still thinking of a small combo to counter Krul's blood-sucking in his mind, and Krul's sudden maneuver made him forget to resist.

Krul still had a smile on her face as she looked at the dazed Luke and nodded with satisfaction.

Little brat, you still want to fight me!

Luke had no choice; he'd already drunk it.

Savoring the aftertaste, his perception of the taste of blood had changed after becoming a Vampire.

It tastes good!

But not as good as blood straight from the source!

"How does my blood taste?"

"Not bad, slightly sweet on the palate, with a lingering fragrance."

Krul didn't expect Luke to actually give a review; she was a bit stunned, but she still didn't forget to continue messing with him.

"Now then, let's talk about your attempt to escape."

Upon hearing this, Luke's face instantly slumped as he said helplessly.

"Lady Krul, I have good food and drink here, why would I run? There's no reason!"

Krul spread her hands.

"Exactly, that's what I'm asking you."

Luke had a face like a bitter melon; to avoid physical suffering, he could only tell the truth.

"I didn't want to escape. It's just that those children are my friends and they wanted to escape, so I was just covering the rear."

Krul thought about it; this reason did seem plausible. After all, she and Luke had fought—though it was a complete stomp—but for him to be able to wound Ferid today, four years later, was indeed quite incredible.

But she absolutely couldn't let this brat off easy today!

"Hmm, then let's add another charge: withholding information."

Luke was dumbfounded. What did she mean by adding another charge? So the original charge wasn't cleared after all!

Looking at the mischievous Krul, Luke deeply realized her devious nature.

He also understood now; Krul's goal wasn't to interrogate him, but simply to teach him a lesson.

Realizing this, Luke stopped defending himself; whatever Krul said was what it was.

With Luke becoming completely submissive, Krul felt a bit disappointed and began thinking of a punishment.

Got it!

Luke felt a chill down his spine from the look Krul suddenly cast his way.

What kind of mischief is Princess Krul brewing now?

Krul's smile grew even more brilliant, but in Luke's eyes, she looked like a devil.

Ten minutes later, Luke's face, which had become even fairer after turning into a Vampire, was completely flushed red.

"Princess Krul, this... how about you just give me a beating instead, I... I..."

Krul covered her mouth with her right hand, trying hard to stifle her laughter.

"Pfft~ No room for negotiation... go on... hahaha..."

Krul's punishment was simple: Luke would definitely go on missions in the future, which meant he would inevitably deal with other Vampires. So, Krul required him to go and greet all the Upper-ranking Vampires and Progenitors in Sanguinem.

This wouldn't have been much, but Krul required that after every greeting, Luke had to ask the other person: 'Am I moe?'

Even with a mental state far beyond ordinary people, Luke felt quite embarrassed.

This is total social suicide!

Krul thought it was hilarious just thinking about it.

A few days later, Lady Krul's new scion was affectionately called the 'Cute King' by the other Vampires.
