Chapter 74 - : Fire Beneath the Dark

The space between them disappeared first.

Not through force.

Not through desperation.

But through surrender.

Adrian kissed her again slowly.

Like a man trying to memorize something forbidden before losing it.

Seraphina's fingers slid into his hair immediately.

Pulling him closer.

And whatever fragile restraint remained inside Adrian finally began to crack apart completely.

The kiss deepened.

Warmer.

Hungrier.

Yet somehow still unbearably intimate.

His hands moved carefully along her waist beneath the loosened silk robe.

Not rushed.

Exploring her slowly like he still couldn't believe she was truly here.

That she chose him willingly.

Seraphina felt heat curl deeply inside her chest at the way he touched her.

Not like possession alone.

Like reverence mixed dangerously with obsession.

Adrian backed her slowly against the edge of the bed.

Their lips barely separating between breaths.

And when the back of her knees touched the mattress—

he paused.

Actually paused.

His forehead rested briefly against hers.

Breathing uneven now.

Eyes darker than she had ever seen them.

"…Tell me to stop."

Seraphina stared at him softly.

Because somehow—

that question affected her more than anything else tonight.

This terrifying man.

This ghost hidden behind shadows and bloodshed.

Still giving her a choice.

Her fingers traced lightly along his jaw.

"…If I wanted you to stop…"

She leaned closer.

"…you'd already know."

That answer shattered the last thread holding him back.

Adrian kissed her deeply again.

One hand sliding beneath her thigh as he guided her fully onto the bed.

The robe loosened further beneath his touch.

Warm skin against warm skin.

Moonlight spilling softly across tangled shadows and silk sheets.

Seraphina's heartbeat quickened as Adrian hovered above her.

Watching her carefully.

Almost intensely.

Like every small reaction mattered to him.

His fingers brushed slowly across her shoulder.

Then lower.

Trailing warmth down her side.

And Seraphina inhaled sharply at the deliberate slowness of it.

"You're staring," she whispered softly.

Adrian's gaze didn't move.

"…You're beautiful."

The answer came too naturally.

Too honestly.

And suddenly—

the dangerous mafia king beneath the shadows disappeared for one fragile moment.

Leaving only a man completely ruined by the woman beneath him.

Rain continued falling outside.

Soft at first.

Then heavier against the estate windows.

But inside the room—

everything felt warm.

Breathing.

Touch.

Quiet sounds swallowed by darkness.

Adrian kissed along her neck slowly.

Unhurried.

His restraint gone—

yet his control somehow remained.

Every movement deliberate enough to make anticipation unbearable.

Seraphina's fingers tightened slightly against his shoulders as he pulled her closer beneath him.

Their bodies fitting together with dangerous ease now.

Like this had been inevitable from the very beginning.

The robe slipped further from her shoulders.

Adrian's hand tracing gently across exposed skin as though he couldn't stop touching her.

Couldn't stop confirming she was real.

And honestly—

Seraphina felt equally lost in him.

In the warmth of his hands.

The roughness hidden beneath his composure.

The way he looked at her like she was both temptation and salvation.

His lips found hers again.

Slower this time.

Deeper.

And every kiss carried things neither of them said aloud.

Loneliness.

Fear.

Possession.

Need.

The room filled with quiet tension and tangled breaths.

The kind of intimacy far more dangerous than physical desire alone.

Because this wasn't just attraction anymore.

It was attachment.

And attachment in their world destroyed people.

Still—

neither stopped.

Adrian's forehead rested against hers again as his hand intertwined carefully with hers against the sheets.

A strangely tender gesture from someone capable of terrifying violence.

"You're going to ruin me," he murmured quietly.

Seraphina smiled faintly beneath him.

"…Too late."

That earned the first real laugh she had heard from him in what felt like forever.

Low.

Soft.

Beautiful in a way that almost hurt.

Then the intensity returned immediately after.

His gaze darkening again as he kissed her harder.

Pulling her closer against him until nothing remained between them except warmth and rising tension.

Outside—

storms rolled across the mountains.

Inside—

two dangerous souls finally stopped pretending distance could save them.

And beneath moonlight and rain—

they gave in completely to each other.

Not gently.

Not safely.

But passionately enough to leave scars neither would ever truly recover from.

Much later—

the room had fallen quiet again.

Only rain and soft breathing remained.

Seraphina rested against Adrian's chest silently beneath tangled sheets.

His arm wrapped securely around her waist.

Protective even in sleepiness.

Neither spoke for a while.

Because words suddenly felt too small for whatever this had become.

But somewhere deep beneath the tenderness—

danger still waited.

Secrets still lived.

And both of them knew peace like this could never last forever.

Which only made holding each other tonight feel even more precious.
