Chapter 3 - Holding

Tink Tink Tink*

The Intruder, slowly, and rhythmically taps on the locker with what sounds like the tip of his gun. Without even seeing it, Maple could tell that they had a grin spreading from one cheek to the other. Their chuckling under their breath made her whole body tense up, as goosebumps form on her arm.

Her hand tightly cuffed around her mouth, her body trying to shrink down as much as possible, and her tears flowing out her eyes like a stream of water flowing into a lake. She was terrified. Terrified to find out what would happen to her if she was caught.

"He-llo~"

The intruders voice echoing through the locker, a piercing ring in Maples ear.

"Some-one-in-there~"

A taunting pause after each word they speak.

Clink clink*

The door of the locker shakes a bit, shifting Maples body slightly. She tries even harder to shrink down. She feels her vision getting blurry, as she starts to get nauseated.

"hmm~"

CLANK CLANK CLANK*

The locker door shakes even more, more aggressively, nearly tossing Maple from side to side. All she could do was hold her breath and wait. She wasn't even assured that she would make it out alive.

"Is this thing locked?"

The locker stops shaking, calm, silence, there was no noise, Maple couldn't hear anything. The locker gets slightly darker, as if a cloud passed by in front of the sun. Maple slowly shifts her eyes up to look at the sliver holes of the lockers, and freezes. Eyes. Just staring intently inside locker.

Dark, brown eyes, like an endless abyss, as if it were staring deep insides Maple soul, ready to devour her any second now. They see me. Maple thought, nearly being unable to hold in her cries anymore. Her vision getting blurrier by the second, her throat getting tighter, her stomach as if it were caving into itself.

"Nothing."

The intruder said, in a disappointed tone, before backing away from the locker. Maple to scared to think straight to comprehend what they said. All she could do was sit there and silently weep, waiting for death to embrace her.

But it never did. The sounds of the intruder's footstep getting further and further away. Slushing through the sound of water, their chuckle, still heard, as if it were still beside her, echoing through her head.

Even after the sound of the intruder's footstep left the room and roam the halls of the school. Maple couldn't stop the habit of holding her breathing and squeezing her eyes shut.

Until she couldn't anymore, gasping for air, she felt trapped in the locker, as if she was stuck in the vacuum of space. Unable to find a breath of air anywhere. She presses her body hard against the locker door, pushing till her shoulders started to hurt.

CLANG***

The locker door slams open. Maple falling out of it, her shoulders slamming into the ground. She takes a huge gulp of air, before she hurled, as if her intestines were about to leave out her throat.

Drool and saliva leaking out her mouth, her nose dripping of snot, and her eyes tight and sore from all the crying she was doing inside the locker. Maple could only lay on the ground in a pool of her own vomit and a different substance.

...

...

After a couple minutes had passed, Maples breathing calmed down, she started to inhale and exhale at a normal rate again. Her vision getting clearer and clearer by the second as her tears start to dry up.

As everything started to clear up, so did her smell, a mix of putrid stink and something metallic were shifting around in the air. It almost made Maple want to throw up all over again.

Maple uses her hand to push herself off the ground into an upright sitting position. She looks at the area where she had just got up from. A pool of yellowish-green vomit with carrot bits and mushed potato chips starting to fill in the empty spot Maple had left where she laid.

Along with the vomit, a different, red, thickish substance also filled in the empty space, mixing with the vomit. It was where the source of the metallic smell was coming from.

And it was abundant, it was everywhere, and the more Maples mind cleared, the more she realized what all this red stuff was. It was blood.

Sweat started to form everywhere on Maples body, as her whole body starts to tense up, locking together, she slowly tilts her head up to witness the sight that had just took place not to long ago. And what she saw were horrors worse than any horror, slasher, thriller movie could ever recreate.

Mutilated corpse lay dormant all over the classroom she once learned in. Once lively students who used to feel the class with drama and nonsense, now they cease to exist. And the teacher, who once stood at the front of the class, with a proud smile every morning ready to teach. Now with a face unrecognizable, blood pulsing out of wholes made from his face.

Even if she didn't interact with any of the students in the class. She realized right then that there was a different meaning to not recognizing someone. Looking around her, the faces she once saw but never acknowledge, she could only with she could see again.

It was just a mutilation of corpses, deformed faces, hanging jaws, popping eyes, and holes that seem to never end, in a swirl of blood everywhere around her. Maple really couldn't do anything at all, her body wouldn't move, all she could do left was cry, and vomit, all over again.
