Night fell as Arou and Airi sat together in the living room of Airi's house. A small table lamp cast a warm glow, wrapping the space in a calm and comforting atmosphere.
Airi prepared some warm drinks for them. "Here… some tea. It'll help you relax," she said softly as she placed the cups on the table.
"Thank you," Arou replied with a faint smile. He took a slow sip, enjoying the warmth spreading through his body after their long day.
For a while, silence filled the room. They simply sat there, savoring the peacefulness. The night breeze slipped through the window, gently swaying the curtains, adding to the quiet comfort they rarely experienced.
Airi glanced at Arou with a small smile. "I'm glad you came home with me tonight. It feels… safer. More comfortable," she said gently.
Arou nodded. "Yeah… I feel the same. It's peaceful here," he replied, his gaze soft as it met hers.
Not long after, the front door opened. Footsteps approached quickly, and soon Airi's parents and older sister stepped into the living room.
Her father looked at Arou with mild surprise. "And who is this?" he asked curiously.
Airi's older sister smirked and nudged her. "Wow, Airi… already got yourself a boyfriend?"
Airi froze, her cheeks turning red, while Arou looked caught off guard but tried to stay composed.
"N-no… we're just friends!" Airi said quickly, her voice slightly flustered.
Her sister laughed. "Relax, I'm joking. Welcome to our home. Make yourself comfortable!"
Her parents smiled warmly, and soon the atmosphere turned friendly. They chatted casually, asking about Airi's day and daily life. Arou listened politely, occasionally adding a few comments.
That night, the house was filled with light laughter and easy conversation. No battles, no tension—just the warmth of a family, and two people slowly getting to know each other.
—
After a while, Airi's sister stepped forward with a wide grin.
"I'm Chika," she said, offering her hand. "Nice to meet you!"
Arou smiled awkwardly and shook it. "Nice to meet you too."
Chika then playfully patted Airi's shoulder. "You know, Airi can be pretty lazy when it comes to cleaning. If I don't remind her, this house would be a total mess."
Airi's face turned even redder. "Chika… don't say that in front of him," she whispered quickly.
Arou chuckled softly. "So that's why the house is so neat?"
Chika laughed. "Exactly! Don't let her fool you—she procrastinates a lot."
Airi lowered her head, embarrassed but smiling faintly. "Geez… Chika…"
Arou watched the two of them, feeling the warmth of their dynamic. It made him feel closer to Airi—seeing this honest, everyday side of her.
"Don't worry," Chika added with a grin. "Just a little humor to keep things lively."
The night continued with laughter and lighthearted conversation, strengthening their bond little by little.
—
After some time, Chika stood up with a mischievous smile.
"Arou, come with me. I want to show you something."
Arou blinked. "What is it?"
Chika turned to Airi. "Your room. I'm sure he's curious."
Airi immediately panicked. "W-wait! Not now! My room is messy!"
Chika waved it off. "Relax. A little mess is normal."
Arou smiled. "I don't mind. I'm a bit curious."
Airi sighed in defeat. "Fine… but don't laugh!"
The three of them walked to her room. As soon as the door opened, Arou paused.
Clothes were scattered on the floor, books piled on the desk, and small items were left lying around.
Airi covered her face. "See? I told you…"
Chika burst out laughing. "This is her natural state!"
Arou looked around for a moment, then smiled gently. "I get it. It's not a problem… it feels more human, honestly."
Airi slowly lowered her hands, still blushing. "You're making me more embarrassed…"
Chika grinned. "Now you've seen her true self."
They laughed together, the mood light and warm.
—
Arou sat on a chair while Airi started tidying up a little. Chika watched with amusement.
"You know, this is actually cleaner than usual," Chika teased.
"Chika!" Airi protested.
Arou chuckled. "It's really fine. I feel comfortable here."
Airi smiled shyly. "Then… I'll clean up a bit."
Arou stood and helped her. Together, they organized some books and small items, sharing small smiles and quiet laughter.
Chika leaned back, enjoying the scene. "Wow… you two make a good team."
"Chika, stop…" Airi muttered, covering her face again.
The night carried on with snacks, warm drinks, and simple conversations—favorite movies, food, and little everyday things.
It was peaceful. Warm. Safe.
—
As the night grew late, Airi nearly fell asleep on the couch. Chika noticed and clapped her hands.
"Airi, go to bed."
Airi nodded drowsily. "Yeah… but I haven't figured out where Arou will sleep…"
"The sofa is fine," Arou said.
"No," Chika cut in immediately. "He's sleeping in your room."
Airi jolted. "Chika!"
"The bed's huge," Chika said casually. "Arou on the left, you on the right. Problem solved."
Airi covered her face again. "Don't say it like that…"
Arou nodded calmly. "I don't mind, if you're okay with it."
Airi sighed, flustered. "If it's just like that… then fine…"
Chika smiled, satisfied. "See? Easy."
—
In Airi's room, the bed was indeed large enough.
Airi immediately took the far right side, turning her back to Arou. Arou lay on the far left, keeping a noticeable distance between them.
The lights went out.
Silence.
Airi pulled the blanket closer and whispered, barely audible, "Good night…"
"Good night," Arou replied softly.
Neither of them moved.
Neither spoke again.
Just two people lying far apart on the same bed—both completely aware of each other, both awkward beyond words.
Outside the room, Chika covered her mouth, holding back laughter.
"Tomorrow morning is going to be interesting," she whispered before heading to her own room.
The night passed without anything unusual…
…but the awkwardness?
Absolutely perfect.
