Lirien's POV
I woke up slowly, wrapped in warmth and safety.
Vael's strong arms were around me, holding me securely against his chest. His heartbeat was steady under my ear, and his scent, dark, smoky, and comforting, surrounded me like a blanket. For a moment, everything felt perfect. The soreness between my legs and in my muscles was a deep, pleasant reminder of the intense days we had just shared.
I shifted slightly and felt the empty space behind me.
Davis wasn't there.
The guest room door was closed, and the apartment was quiet except for the soft hum of the city outside the windows. A small flicker of worry passed through me, but Vael's arms tightened gently, pulling me closer.
"Morning," he murmured, voice still husky from sleep. He pressed a soft kiss to the top of my head. "How do you feel?"
"Sore," I admitted with a small smile. "But good. Where's Davis?"
Vael brushed my hair back from my face. "He stepped out for a bit. Said he needed some air. He'll be back soon."
