Vael's POV
I stepped into my quarters and locked the door behind me faster than usual. My heart was still racing from the long morning on the bridge.
When I saw Lirien sitting on the floor near the window, looking small and worried in my oversized black shirt, something inside me softened and tightened at the same time.
He looked up quickly. His violet eyes were full of fear, but they also lit up a little when they met mine. That small reaction made my chest feel warm.
"You're back," he said softly.
"I told you I would be." I walked over and sat down on the floor right next to him. I pulled him gently into my arms so his back rested against my chest. "The security sweep is still going on. They're being extra careful this time. Someone really did report seeing a stranger near the cargo area."
Lirien stayed quiet for a moment, then leaned his head back on my shoulder. "Do they know about me?"
"Not yet," I answered honestly. "But they're checking every deck. I had to lie and say I was doing a personal inspection just so I could come back here early."
I could feel him trembling a little. I wrapped my arms tighter around his waist and kissed the side of his head. His silver-white hair smelled like my shampoo now. It felt strangely right.
"I'm sorry," he whispered. "I caused all this trouble for you. You were living a clean, orderly life before I sneaked onto your ship."
I let out a long breath and turned him around so I could look at his face. His cheeks were still slightly pink, and his eyes looked tired but beautiful.
"Don't apologize," I said. "Yes, you brought chaos into my life. But you also brought something I didn't know I was missing." I brushed my thumb across his cheek. "Last night… this morning… I haven't felt this alive in years."
Lirien's eyes searched mine. "Really?"
"Really." I took his hand and placed it on my chest so he could feel how fast my heart was beating. "I'm supposed to be the strict captain who follows every rule. But when I'm with you, all those rules feel less important. That scares me, Lirien. I've never risked my position for anyone before."
He squeezed my hand. "I'm scared too. I ran away from home because my family wanted to force me to mate with an Alpha I didn't even know. I thought I would be free once I got on this ship… but now I'm hiding in the captain's room and I don't want to leave."
We sat there on the floor in silence for a while, just holding each other. The stars moved slowly past the big window. The ship felt peaceful, but we both knew it was only an illusion.
After some time, I stood up and pulled him to his feet. "Come on. You've been stuck in here all day. Let's at least make you more comfortable."
I helped him change into another one of my clean shirts. It was big on his slim body and reached halfway down his thighs. He looked adorable and sexy at the same time. I had to fight the urge to kiss him everywhere.
We moved to the small sitting area. I heated up two meal packs — real food, not the emergency ones. We sat across from each other and ate slowly. I watched him carefully. He ate like someone who hadn't had proper food in days.
"Tell me about your home," I said gently. "Before you ran away."
Lirien looked down at his food. "It was a small colony planet. My family is poor. When they found out I was an Omega, they saw me as a way to get money. They arranged a mating with a rich Alpha I never met. I felt like a thing being sold." He looked up at me. "That's why I hid on your ship. I just wanted to choose my own life."
His words made my jaw tight with anger. I reached across the table and held his hand.
"You were brave," I told him. "Stupid… but very brave."
He gave a small laugh. "And what about you, Captain? Why are you out here in space instead of living on a nice planet somewhere?"
I hesitated. I didn't usually talk about my past. But with him, I wanted to.
"I lost my father during a space pirate attack when I was young," I said quietly. "After that, I joined the fleet to feel strong. To feel in control. I worked hard and became captain. But being in control all the time… it gets lonely."
Lirien stood up, walked around the table, and sat on my lap. He wrapped his arms around my neck and hugged me tightly. I held him close, breathing in his sweet scent.
For a long time we just stayed like that holding each other in silence. No heat. No rushing. Just two people who found each other in the middle of space.
"I don't know what's going to happen," I whispered against his hair. "But I'm not letting them take you away from me. I'll find a way to keep you safe on this ship. Even if it means bending every rule I have."
Lirien pulled back and looked into my eyes. His face was serious but soft.
"I don't want to ruin your life, Vael."
"You're not ruining it," I said, smiling a little. "You're changing it. And right now… I think I like the change."
I kissed him slowly. Not with the wild hunger from last night, but with something deeper. Something that felt like the beginning of real feelings.
When we finally pulled apart, I rested my forehead against his.
"We still have to be careful," I said. "The security sweep will finish soon. I'll bring you better clothes tomorrow and try to make a small hiding plan. For now, you stay here and rest."
Lirien nodded and hugged me again.
As I held him, I realized something important.
This rebellious Omega stowaway had only been in my life for two days, but I was already ready to risk everything to protect him.
And that truth both excited me and terrified me.
