Chapter 15 - CHAPTER FIFTEEN: The Woman Behind the Secret

Isabella couldn't sleep.

The message was gone, but the words remained.

You don't know who you're sleeping beside.

She hated how much it bothered her.

Not because she believed the stranger completely. She had learned enough about Luca to know that there were always people trying to destroy him. Enemies were nothing new in his world.

What disturbed her was the small part of her that wondered if the message contained a piece of truth.

Luca had secrets.

Everyone did.

But Luca's secrets felt different.

They carried weight.

They carried danger.

She sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the city lights outside the window. This was supposed to be a journey of discovery, a challenge between two people exploring attraction and desire.

But somewhere along the way, she had discovered something far more complicated.

She had discovered Luca.

The man behind the reputation.

The man behind the power.

The man who looked at her like she was both his greatest temptation and his greatest risk.

The bedroom door opened quietly.

Isabella turned.

Luca stood there, his expression softer than usual.

"You're still awake."

She looked away.

"So are you."

A faint smile touched his lips.

"You're becoming too good at reading me."

"Maybe you're not as unreadable as you think."

He walked closer and sat beside her.

For a while, neither of them spoke.

That silence between them was different from before.

Before, silence had been filled with attraction and anticipation.

Now, it was filled with questions.

"Ask me," Luca said.

Isabella looked at him.

"What?"

"The question you've been holding back."

She studied him carefully.

"You already know?"

"I always know when something is bothering you."

She hesitated.

Then she asked the question that had been sitting in her mind.

"What happened five years ago?"

The change in Luca was immediate.

His face remained calm, but his eyes changed.

Pain.

Anger.

Regret.

All of it appeared for a brief moment before disappearing behind his usual control.

"Who told you about that?"

"That's not an answer."

His jaw tightened.

"No. It's not."

She waited.

And this time, Luca didn't run from the question.

"Five years ago, I made a decision that changed everything."

"What kind of decision?"

"One that protected my family."

Isabella frowned.

"But hurt someone else?"

His silence answered for him.

She looked at him carefully.

"Who?"

Luca stood and walked toward the window.

"Her name was Sofia."

The name felt strange coming from him.

Not because Isabella knew who Sofia was.

But because she had never heard Luca speak about anyone from his past.

"She was someone I cared about," he continued. "Someone who knew me before I became this."

"This?"

He looked at her reflection in the glass.

"The man everyone fears."

Isabella felt something tighten in her chest.

"What happened to her?"

Luca didn't answer immediately.

"She disappeared."

The words were simple.

But the way he said them made Isabella realize there was much more beneath them.

"Do you think she's alive?"

Luca looked down.

"I don't know."

The honesty surprised her.

Because Luca always seemed certain.

Always prepared.

Always in control.

But this was different.

This was a wound that never healed.

Before Isabella could respond, Luca's phone rang.

He looked at the screen and immediately answered.

"What?"

A pause.

His expression darkened.

"Where did you find it?"

Another pause.

"Don't touch anything until I arrive."

He ended the call.

Isabella already knew.

Something had happened.

"What now?"

Luca looked at her.

"They found something connected to Sofia."

The name hung between them.

A person from Luca's past had suddenly returned.

And Isabella knew instinctively that this was bigger than she understood.

"I'm coming with you."

"No."

The answer came too quickly.

She crossed her arms.

"You don't get to decide everything."

"Isabella."

"No, Luca."

Her voice was calm, but firm.

"You keep telling me your world is dangerous. You keep telling me I need to understand what I'm involved in. But every time I get close to the truth, you push me away."

His expression softened.

"Because I'm trying to protect you."

"And maybe I don't want protection if it means being kept in the dark."

For a moment, Luca said nothing.

Then something unexpected happened.

He smiled.

Not the dangerous smile she had seen when he intimidated people.

A real one.

"You are impossible."

"And yet you keep me around."

His eyes stayed on hers.

"Yes."

The simple answer affected her more than she expected.

Because Luca wasn't denying it anymore.

She mattered.

And that realization was both beautiful and terrifying.

Later that night, Isabella sat beside Luca in the car as they drove toward an unknown location outside the city.

The streets became quieter.

The buildings became fewer.

The world she knew slowly disappeared.

She looked at Luca.

"Are you afraid?"

He kept his eyes on the road.

"No."

She raised an eyebrow.

"You're lying."

A small breath escaped him.

"You really do think you know me."

"I'm learning."

This time, he didn't argue.

The car eventually stopped in front of an old building hidden away from the public eye.

Several men were waiting outside.

The moment Luca stepped out, the atmosphere changed.

Everyone straightened.

Everyone respected him.

But Isabella noticed something else.

They were nervous.

Not because of Luca.

Because of what they had discovered.

Inside the building was a small room filled with old documents, photographs, and evidence.

Luca walked toward a table.

And then he stopped.

Isabella saw his face change.

On the table was a photograph.

A woman.

Sofia.

But that wasn't the only thing.

Beside the photograph was a message.

A message written only a few hours ago.

You thought the past was buried.

Luca picked it up slowly.

His hands tightened.

Isabella stepped closer.

"Luca…"

He looked at her.

And for the first time, she saw something she had never seen before.

Uncertainty.

Fear.

Because whoever was behind this wasn't just attacking Luca's empire.

They were opening old wounds.

And Isabella suddenly understood something.

The stranger who warned her wasn't trying to make her leave Luca.

They were trying to make her discover the truth.

The question was…

Would the truth bring them closer?

Or would it destroy everything they had built?

Because the closer Isabella got to Luca's heart, the closer she came to the darkness surrounding it.
