Chapter 15 - The One Pulling the Strings

The moment he appeared—

Everything stopped feeling natural.

The distortions didn't just react.

They obeyed.

Danny felt it instantly.

That resistance from before—

Wasn't random.

It had a source.

"…You," Danny said, his voice tightening.

"…You're the one doing this."

The man smiled faintly.

Not denying it.

Not confirming it.

Just… acknowledging.

"You're learning."

That calm tone—

Made it worse.

Abby stepped forward immediately, her aura surging violently, crimson energy pressing against the distortions that now pulsed unnaturally around them.

"Stop this."

The man tilted his head slightly.

"Or what?"

Silence.

Abby didn't hesitate.

She moved.

A burst of crimson—

Faster than before—

Stronger than before—

Straight at him.

BOOM.

The ground shattered where she struck—

But Nothing.

Danny's eyes widened.

"…He's gone—?!"

"No," Ren said calmly from behind him.

Danny turned—

The man was still there.

Untouched.

Unmoved.

Like Abby's attack never happened.

Abby landed, her eyes narrowing sharply.

"…That wasn't real."

The man smiled.

"It was real."

A pause.

"Just not where you thought it was."

Danny's chest tightened.

"…What does that even mean—?"

Before he could finish—

The air shifted again.

Violently.

The distortions surged outward—

Larger—

More unstable—

The creatures began emerging faster now.

More complete.

More solid.

Abby clicked her tongue.

"He's accelerating it."

Ren exhaled softly.

"Yeah… that's definitely not good."

Danny clenched his fists.

"…Why are you doing this?!" he shouted.

The man looked at him.

And this time—

There was no amusement.

Only focus.

"Because this is necessary."

"…Necessary for what?!"

A pause.

Then—

"For you to reach the next stage."

Silence.

Danny's heart skipped.

"…What…?"

Abby's expression darkened instantly.

"You're forcing his growth."

The man didn't deny it.

Instead—

"Would you prefer he stays weak?"

That question—

Was directed at her.

Not Danny.

Abby didn't answer.

Because she couldn't.

The ground trembled again.

The distortions expanded further—

Now merging.

Becoming something bigger.

Something worse.

Danny stepped back slightly.

"…This is getting out of control…"

"No," the man said calmly.

A pause.

"This is control."

That line—

Hit differently.

Because deep down—

Danny could feel it.

The way everything was moving.

The way everything was reacting.

This wasn't chaos.

This was being guided.

The distortions merged completely.

Forming—

One massive tear.

Far larger than before.

Far more unstable.

The air screamed silently as reality stretched to its limit.

Danny's breathing became uneven.

"…That's not good…"

Abby stepped forward.

Her aura flaring violently again.

"That's beyond anything we've faced."

Ren's expression finally shifted slightly.

"…Yeah."

A pause.

"That one's serious."

From within the massive tear—

Something moved.

Not small.

Not incomplete.

Something whole.

Something real.

Danny's heart dropped.

"…No…"

The man watched calmly.

Completely unfazed.

"Good."

That word—

Sent a chill down Danny's spine.

"…Good?!" he snapped.

The man's gaze sharpened slightly.

"This is where it begins."

The tear expanded further—

Cracks spreading outward—

Reality bending around it—

And then—

It stepped through.

Fully.

A massive figure.

Not like the others.

Not unstable.

Not incomplete.

Perfectly formed.

Its presence alone Crushed the air.

Danny couldn't breathe.

"…This is insane…"

Abby's voice dropped.

"…That's a full manifestation."

A pause.

"It shouldn't be possible this early."

Ren's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…Yeah."

Another step from the creature—

The ground cracking beneath it Its gaze Locked onto Danny.

Of course it was.

"—Key—"

Danny clenched his fists.

"…I'm getting really tired of that word…"

The creature raised its arm—

Slow—

Heavy—

But this time—

Danny didn't panic.

He stepped forward.

"…Then I'll end it."

Abby's eyes widened.

"…Danny—"

But he didn't stop.

The distortion around him surged—

Stronger than ever before—

For the first time—

Completely under his control.

He raised his hand.

The massive tear—

Reacted instantly.

Cracks forming along its edges—

The creature paused.

For the first time It hesitated.

The man's smile deepened slightly.

"There it is."

Danny clenched his fist—

The tear trembled—

"…Close."

Nothing.

The tear resisted.

Harder than before.

Something was pushing back.

Stronger than him.

Danny's eyes widened.

"…It's not working—!"

"Of course it isn't."

The man stepped forward slightly.

"You're not there yet."

The creature moved.

Faster than expected.

Its massive arm descending—

Danny couldn't react in time.

Abby moved instantly—

Intercepting—

BOOM.

She was sent crashing back this time.

Hard.

"ABBY—!"

She hit the ground—

Sliding—

Barely stopping herself—

For the first time—

She was overwhelmed.

The creature turned again—

Targeting Danny.

Ren stepped forward—

Finally serious—

"…You're pushing too far."

The man didn't look at him.

"Not far enough."

The creature attacked again—

And this time Danny didn't move.

Not because he couldn't.

But because—

Something else did.

The world Shifted.

Just slightly.

And for a split second, That same figure Appeared again.

Behind the creature.

Smiling.

Then Everything snapped back.

BOOOOOOM.

The attack hit—

The ground exploded—

Smoke.

Dust.

Destruction.

Silence.

"…Danny…?"

Abby's voice.

Shaken.

Uncertain.

The dust slowly cleared.

And standing there—

Unharmed.

Was Danny.

The distortion around him—

Perfect.

Stable.

Controlled.

His eyes—

Different.

Calm.

Focused.

The man's smile widened.

"Now that…"

A pause.

"Is progress."

Danny looked up slowly.

Directly at him.

And for the first time—

He spoke without hesitation.

"…You planned all of this."

The man didn't deny it.

"Of course."

Silence.

Danny's expression didn't change.

"Then I'll break your plan."

For the first time—

The man laughed.

Genuinely.

"I'd like to see you try."

Behind them—

The creature prepared another attack.

Stronger.

Deadlier.

But this time—

Danny didn't flinch.

Because now—

He understood something.

Not everything.

But enough.

The world wasn't breaking.

It was being played.

And he—

Was finally part of the game.

To Be Continued.
