The boutique reeked of wealth. That unmistakable blend of luxury fabric, filtered air, and whatever expensive polish they used on those gleaming marble tiles. My fingertips traced along a display of gowns, silk whispering beneath my touch like secrets.
My new bodyguard positioned himself by the entrance, spine straight as a steel rod. Always watching. Always ready for trouble that would never come in a place like this. Orion, they called him. The name matched his personality perfectly. Dependable. Predictable. Mind-numbingly dull.
A midnight blue dress caught my attention. The neckline plunged dangerously low, far too dramatic for anything I actually needed. But the way light danced across the fabric made me want it anyway. I lifted it from the rack and held it against my body, glancing toward Orion. His gaze was fixed on the ceiling fixtures like they held the secrets of the universe.
