Chapter 64 - Chp 64

Silence lingered after the Hokage's words.

No one spoke immediately

Minato Namikaze didn't sit. He remained standing. Commanding the room without raising his voice. "We move forward," he said. "Starting now."

"The village has suffered catastrophic damage. Civilian sectors, infrastructure, and outer defenses have all been compromised."

"We rebuild."

Shikaku Nara stepped forward slightly. "Rebuilding isn't just structural," he said. "It's strategic." "If we look weak right now," Shikaku continued, "other villages will test us."

A murmur of agreement spread.

"They won't declare war," he added. "Not immediately." "But they'll probe. Border pressure. Small incursions. Intelligence gathering."

"We need to be ready before that starts."

Minato nodded once.

"Agreed."

From the right side of the chamber, a large figure shifted forward.

Hiashi Hyuga "The Hyuga clan will reinforce internal surveillance," he said. "Our Byakugan will monitor movement within and around the village." "No unauthorized entry will go unnoticed."

Minato inclined his head slightly. "Good."

"Inuzuka can handle perimeter tracking." "Our ninken will pick up any movement near the borders. If someone's sniffing around, we'll know."

A few nods followed.

From behind her a quieter voice.

"We'll assist."

Shibi Aburame "My insects can cover areas no patrol can reach," he said. "Surveillance will be continuous."

Shikaku nodded slightly. "Layered detection. Good."

Hiruzen stepped forward again, staff resting lightly against the ground.

"Evacuation zones need to be reorganized," Hiruzen Sarutobi said. "What we had in place was not sufficient for an attack of this scale."

Minato glanced toward him. "Suggestions?"

"Underground shelters," Hiruzen replied. "Reinforced. Hidden. Accessible from multiple districts."

Shikaku added, "And not centralized. If one is hit, others remain viable."

"Agreed," Minato said.

A jonin commander stepped forward next. "Medical capacity is overwhelmed," he reported. "We've converted three sectors into temporary treatment zones, but we're short on personnel."

Minato's expression sharpened slightly. "We'll request support from allied villages."

"…Carefully," Shikaku added.

Minato nodded.

"Discreetly."

Because everyone in that room understood what that meant.

Help came with eyes. And eyes meant weakness.

Shinji stepped forward. The room watched.

"The Uchiha will take responsibility for internal security reinforcement," he said. "Our patrol units will double," he continued. "Key districts, evacuation routes, and high-risk zones."

"We'll coordinate with Hyuga surveillance and ANBU operations."

Hiashi gave a slight nod.

Shikaku's eyes lingered on Shinji a moment longer. Evaluating. Then he grinned "Efficient."

Shinji didn't react.

"We'll also deploy rapid-response units," he added. "If another incident happens, we won't be reacting blindly."

Minato watched him closely. Then nodded.

"Approved."

Across the room Danzo Shimura remained silent. But his gaze never left Shinji.

Minato stepped forward again. Bringing the room back. "Border security," he said.

Shikaku responded immediately. "We reinforce without escalation."

"We increase patrols, rotate jonin to outer sectors, and strengthen checkpoints," Shikaku said.

"But we don't mass troops."

"Why?" one commander asked.

"Because that signals fear," Shikaku replied. "And fear invites aggression."

Another jonin spoke. "What about intelligence on the masked man?"

Minato's gaze moved to Shinji. Then Shisui. Then Hiruzen. "Report," he said.

Shinji exhaled slowly. "He can become intangible," he said. "Attacks pass through him."

"But not constantly," Shisui added. "There's timing."

Shikaku's eyes narrowed slightly.

"So he's not invincible."

"No," Shinji said. "In order to attack he must become tangible again"

Minato's expression hardened slightly. "Then we prepare for his return."

Chp 67

The walk to the Uchiha compound was quieter than the rest of the village

Shinji and Shisui moved through the streets side by side.

The Uchiha district stood intact. Untouched by the Nine-Tails. And that made it feel worse.

Shisui exhaled slowly. "They're going to notice."

Shinji didn't look at him. "They already have."

They stepped through the gates. Eyes were already on them.

"Shisui," he said calmly.

"Yeah?"

"Round them up."

Shisui blinked slightly. "…Now?"

Shinji finally glanced at him. "Now."

Shisui nodded. "…Got it." He vanished.

Leaving Shinji alone.

He didn't head toward the clan hall. Didn't acknowledge the watching eyes. He went home.

The door was already open. Shinji stepped inside slowly. He found them in the main room.

Mikoto Uchiha sat on the floor. In her arms a small child.

Nearby standing stiffly. Trying to hold himself together. Itachi Uchiha

He looked up first. "…Brother."

Shinji didn't answer immediately. Because for a moment he didn't know how to. Then he stepped forward.

Mikoto didn't look up. "They told me," she said quietly.

Shinji knelt beside her. "He died protecting the village."

Sasuke's cries filled the room softly.

Mikoto's arms tightened slightly around him. That sounds like him," she whispered.

Itachi's fists clenched at his sides.

"Why wasn't I there?" he said.

Shinji looked at him. "You weren't ready."

Itachi's jaw tightened. "I could've helped"

"No."

The word was firm.

Itachi froze.

Shinji's gaze didn't waver. "You would've died."

Itachi looked down. Didn't argue.

Sasuke's crying grew louder.

Shinji glanced at him.

"He doesn't understand," Itachi said quietly.

Shinji shook his head slightly. "No."

He reached out resting a hand gently on Sasuke's head. "But he feels it."

The room fell quiet again.

Then Shinji stood.

 Mikoto finally looked up.

"Where are you going?"

"To lead."

Her eyes softened Just slightly.

"You're just like him, you know." she said. "Always thinking ahead"

Shinji turned and smiled "Ill be back"

The clan hall was full. Every seat taken.

Shinji stepped inside. And this time they didn't just look at him. They measured him. Because now he wasn't just a shinobi. He was a candidate.

Shisui stood near the front. "They're all here," he said quietly.

Shinji nodded. Then stepped forward. "You all know why we're here," Shinji said. "The clan needs a head."

A murmur rippled through the crowd.

"My father, the clan head, is dead," he continued. "And the position cannot remain vacant."

One of the elders spoke. "And you intend to take it?"

Shinji met his gaze. "I intend to earn it."

Another voice cut in. "You're too young." Another. "Inexperienced in leadership."

And another "And yet already feared outside the village."

"The Red Eye Reaper," someone muttered.

Then a group stepped forward. Three figures. All jonin. All respected.

One of them spoke. "We acknowledge your strength." "But strength alone does not make a leader." "We invoke clan law."

The room stilled. Trial by combat.

Shisui's expression darkened immediately. "You're serious?"

You would deny tradition?" one of them replied.

Shisui stepped forward. "You expect him to fight all three of you? Back-to-back? He just came from a battlefield"

"That is not our concern."

Silence.

Then Shinji moved. His chakra flared. And his eyes shifted. The Mangekyō Sharingan. The room froze.

"Our laws are clear," Shinji said quietly. "If you wish to fight for the position…"

His gaze locked onto them. "Then be prepared not to vote."

Shisui exhaled slowly. "Shinji…" But he didn't stop him because he understood. This wasn't just a fight. This was a message.

The first jonin stepped forward. "Then let's begin."

The duel was set. And Shinji didn't move.

Chp 68

The hall had been cleared. What was once a place of discussion was now a battlefield.

The clan formed a wide circle. At the center two figures stood facing each other.

Shinji.

And across from him. The first challenger.

"You're fast," the man said. "I've heard the stories."

Shinji said nothing.

"Let's see if they're true."

The jonin closed distance instantly Striking straight for Shinji's throat.

Shinji didn't move. His eyes tracked everything. The moment the attack entered range he shifted. The strike missed by inches.

Shinji's hand shot out grabbing the man's wrist twisting.

CRACK.

The jonin grunted but didn't stop. Spinning with the motion driving a knee toward Shinji's ribs.

Blocked.

Shinji's other arm intercepted cleanly.

Then he stepped in. A single strike driven straight into the jonin's chest.

The man was launched backward. Crashing across the floor

The entire exchange was less than three seconds.

The jonin coughed trying to rise, but his body didn't respond.

Shinji walked forward slowly.

"…Yield,"

The man glared up at him frustration burning in his eyes

Then His fist clenched before loosening.

"…I yield."

A murmur spread through the clan.

Respect.

Shinji stepped back "Next."

The second jonin stepped forward.

"You've gone further than any of us expected," the man continued.

The jonin nodded once.

Then formed a seal.

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"

Flames erupted forward small but deadly.

Shinji moved through the flames. The heat tore at his clothes

But his eye tracked the real threat. The jonin emerged from the flames blade drawn Striking from Shinji's blind spot.

Except there was no blind spot.

Shinji turned the blade grazed his shoulder but his hand caught the wrist mid-swing

The jonin didn't panic. He let go of the blade and kicked off Shinji. Creating distance instantly.

The jonin appeared again, this time from above driving a kick downward.

Shinji blocked the impact forced him back. Cracks formed beneath his feet.

The jonin pressed forward immediately strike after strike

Forcing Shinji back.

Shinji knew he couldn't keep reacting. He had to end it.

The jonin lunged again blade drawn once more

And Shinji didn't dodge. He stepped into it. The blade pierced just slightly then stopped. The jonin's eyes widened. "What"

Shinji's hand had caught the blade. Blood ran down his fingers.

Their eyes met

"…Got you."

The jonin froze. That was enough.

Shinji moved. Shinji's strike landed clean. The jonin was sent crashing into the far wall the man slid down unmoving.

"…I… yield…"

Shinji stood still. Looking directly at the final jonin. "Your turn."

The man didn't move.

Chp 69

"This proves nothing," he muttered. A ripple moved through the clan.

Shisui's eyes narrowed slightly. "Then step forward and prove him wrong," he said.

"I refuse," he said finally.

Shinji's gaze didn't change. "Refusal is forfeiture," he said calmly.

The man's fists clenched but he didn't argue.

"Then I forfeit," he said. And just like that it was over. A quiet acceptance of reality.

Shinji turned to face the clan. The entire room stood still. He stepped forward once.

"The trial is concluded," he said. "No further challenges have been made."

"By our laws" His gaze swept across them. "I assume the position of clan head."

Silence followed. Then one by one members of the clan lowered their heads. Even those who had opposed him. Because strength in the Uchiha clan was absolute.

Shisui stepped forward. A faint smirk on his face. "That's one way to do it."

Shisui glanced around the room. "You scared half of them."

"Good," Shinji replied.

From the side an elder stepped forward.

"Clan Head."

Shinji turned slightly.

"Speak."

The elder hesitated for just a moment. Then continued.

"The village already looks at us with suspicion," he said. "Tonight will only make that worse."

A murmur followed.

"They saw the Nine-Tails' eyes," another added. "They'll connect it to us."

"They already are," someone muttered.

Shinji's expression didn't change. "I know," he said. That alone quieted them. Because he wasn't denying it. He was acknowledging it.

"We didn't participate in the defense," Shinji continued. A few heads lowered. "We weren't mobilized," he added. "That failure isn't on the clan alone."

He wasn't throwing blame. But he wasn't accepting all of it either. "We correct that moving forward."

His gaze sharpened slightly. "From this point on, the Uchiha will be visible."

"Active."

Shinji continued. "We take on internal security assignments." "We coordinate with other clans."

"And we eliminate any doubt," Shinji finished.

Then. And if the village still doubts us?"

Shinji's gaze didn't waver. "Then we give them no reason to act on it."

That answer didn't fully satisfy everyone. But it was enough. For now.

Because the truth was no one had a better option.

The elder who had spoken earlier nodded slowly. "Understood, Clan Head."

Others followed.

Shinji turned away slightly. "That's all."

The meeting began to dissolve.

Shisui stepped beside him again. "You handled that better than I expected."

Shinji glanced at him. "Low bar?"

Shisui smirked. "Very."

"…You sure about this?" Shisui asked more seriously.

Shinji looked ahead. "No." "But I'll make it work."

Shisui nodded slowly. "…Yeah," he said. "You will."

Chp 70

The village stood still. For the first time since the attack there was no chaos.

Three coffins stood at the center of the memorial grounds.

Two draped in the colors of the village.

The other. Marked with the crest of the Uchiha.

Shinobi gathered in rows. Civilians stood behind them. Some were injured. Some are grieving.

At the front Minato Namikaze stood. Beside him Hiruzen Sarutobi.

And a step behind the clan heads.

the coffins. Kushina Uzumaki. Fugaku Uchiha. Biwako Sarutobi Side by side.

Minato stepped forward. "We gather today," he began, "to honor those who gave everything for this village." "They did not hesitate." "They did not falter."

"And because of them" "…we are still here."

Minato stepped back. Hiruzen moved forward slowly. Age showed more in moments like this. "We have endured loss before," Hiruzen Sarutobi said. "And we will endure it again."

His gaze moved across the gathered shinobi. "But we must never grow numb to it."

A pause. "Because the day we do…"

His eyes softened. "is the day we forget why we fight." He stepped back. The ceremony continued.

Names spoken. Lives remembered. But Shinji heard none of it. Because his focus never left the second coffin. His father.

A hand touched his shoulder. He didn't need to look. "Stand tall," Shisui Uchiha said quietly.

Shinji exhaled slowly. "I am."

The burial came quietly. No spectacle. Just finality. Dirt falling.

Mikoto stood still.bItachi Uchiha stood beside her. Rigid.

In her arms was Sasuke Uchiha. Crying softly again.

Shinji stepped forward. He knelt beside them. "He died protecting everyone," Shinji said quietly.

Mikoto nodded once. "I know."

Itachi's voice came next. "I'll get stronger."

Shinji looked at him. "You will."

Shinji stood. And for the first time he allowed himself to look down at the grave. "I'll handle the rest," he said quietly. Not to anyone there.

Night fell slowly. The village dimmed. But not completely. Work never stopped now.

High above on the edge of the Hokage monument. Two figures stood in shadow.

"You pushed too hard today." Hiruzen Sarutobi didn't turn.

Behind him Danzo Shimura stood.

"I stated facts," Danzo replied calmly.

"You provoked instability," Hiruzen corrected. "Insulted my disciple. He did a lot more for the village that night than you've done recently"

"The Uchiha are unstable."

Hiruzen's grip tightened slightly on his staff. "They just lost their leader."

"They gained a more dangerous one," Danzo said. "A child with Mangekyō Sharingan."

Hiruzen finally turned. "He is loyal." "He's shown it countless times"

Danzo didn't respond immediately.

Then

"So was Orochimaru"

The words lingered. Cold. Calculated.

"The village cannot afford uncertainty," Danzo continued.

Hiruzen's eyes hardened. His chakra flared. And for the first time. He didn't see Danzo as his friend. He moved fast. Staff pointed at Danzo's neck.

"You will not act."

Danzo said nothing but his silence wasn't agreement.

Elsewhere Root moved. Orders given without words.

The Uchiha compound. Patrol routes. Movement patterns.

And at the center of it all. One name. Shinji.

Back at the compound Shinji stood alone.

Shisui landed beside him. "They're already watching," he said.

Shinji didn't look at him. "I know."

"…Danzo?" Shisui asked

"Who else?"

Silence settled between them.
