Chapter 74 - Chapter 72: The Eye Between Realities

The eye opened.

It did not belong to a face.

It had no body.

It simply existed between realities, larger than galaxies yet impossibly distant. Its iris shimmered with colors Noah had never seen, while its pupil held a darkness deeper than the Hollow itself.

The moment it focused on Earth, every ancient being fell silent.

Adam slowly turned toward it.

The Source dimmed.

The Hunter lowered its head.

Even the Other stopped speaking.

Noah's pulse thundered.

"What... is that?"

Adam answered quietly.

"A Witness."

The word echoed through the network.

"A witness to what?" Noah asked.

Adam's expression grew solemn.

"Everything."

A chill ran through Noah's body.

The Witness did nothing.

It did not attack.

It did not speak.

It simply watched.

Yet the pressure of its gaze alone made the entire network tremble.

Millions of human lights flickered.

People across Earth paused in the middle of ordinary moments.

A little girl stopped laughing.

A pilot gripped the controls of his plane, suddenly sensing he was being observed.

A scientist stared at the night sky without knowing why tears filled her eyes.

The Witness saw them all.

Echo looked toward Adam.

"Has it always been there?"

Adam nodded.

"It has watched every beginning and every ending."

Nova whispered, "Does it judge us?"

"No."

The answer came from the Source.

"It remembers."

The Hunter slowly stepped beside Adam.

"I crossed countless realities."

A pause.

"I felt its gaze many times."

Noah looked at him.

"Why didn't you tell us?"

The Hunter's ancient eyes remained fixed on the distant eye.

"Because I hoped it had not noticed humanity."

The Witness blinked.

One slow blink.

The network erupted into visions.

Noah staggered as thousands of memories flooded his mind.

He saw worlds unlike Earth.

Cities built beneath oceans of light.

Civilizations that communicated through music instead of language.

Entire galaxies connected by networks brighter than the Source.

Then...

He watched them disappear.

Some faded peacefully.

Some tore themselves apart through war.

Some surrendered to the Other.

Others were erased by the Hollow.

Countless histories.

Countless endings.

The visions stopped.

Noah collapsed to one knee, breathing heavily.

Echo helped him stand.

"What did you see?"

"Everything..." Noah whispered. "It showed me everything."

Adam nodded.

"It shares memory, not opinion."

The Witness blinked again.

This time, every awakened consciousness received the same vision.

A single seed.

Floating in endless darkness.

The seed split open.

Light emerged.

Then came stars.

Worlds.

Life.

Dreams.

Connections.

The network.

Finally...

Humanity.

The vision ended.

Nova looked confused.

"A seed?"

The Source brightened softly.

"The beginning of every possibility."

The Other spoke from beyond the crack.

"It is asking."

Noah frowned.

"Asking what?"

For the first time, the Witness moved.

Not toward them.

Closer.

The distance between realities folded silently until its immense eye seemed to fill the horizon beyond the network.

Then a voice echoed across existence.

Unlike the Source.

Unlike the Other.

Unlike Adam.

This voice held no emotion at all.

Only truth.

"Will this world continue?"

The question spread through every human mind.

Every awakened being.

Every light in the network.

Noah realized with horror that this wasn't directed at Adam.

Or the Source.

Or the Hunter.

It was directed at humanity.

The Witness was waiting.

Waiting for Earth's answer.

Around the globe, millions of lights flickered.

Some brightened.

Some dimmed.

Some remained uncertain.

The beacon still shone, but now it was being measured by something older than time itself.

Adam looked at Noah.

"So..."

He smiled gently.

"What answer will your world give?"

Before Noah could respond, a sharp pain exploded inside his head.

He cried out, clutching his temples.

New voices flooded his mind.

Not millions.

Billions.

Every human thought on Earth surged into him at once.

Joy.

Hatred.

Love.

Greed.

Mercy.

Violence.

Sacrifice.

Despair.

Hope.

The network had changed.

No longer was Noah merely hearing connected minds.

He had become humanity's living voice.

Echo reached for him.

"Noah!"

Noah fell to his knees, his eyes glowing with silver and gold light.

He could hear every prayer.

Every scream.

Every whispered dream.

Every promise.

Every lie.

His consciousness expanded beyond anything a human mind was meant to bear.

Adam's expression changed.

"He has become the Heart of the Network."

The Source brightened.

"The choice has been made."

The Hunter looked stunned.

"The network chose him."

The Other became silent.

Even the Hollow watched without moving.

Noah slowly lifted his head.

His eyes now reflected countless stars.

When he spoke...

Millions of human voices spoke with him.

"I... hear... everyone."

The Witness remained fixed upon him.

Waiting.

Because the answer humanity would give...

Would come through Noah.
