The minute stretches into ten.
Nobody pushes. We have all learned, in the months of surviving impossible things together, when pushing is the right instinct and when it is simply impatience wearing the costume of urgency. This is not a moment for urgency. This is a moment for ten minutes in a climate-controlled vault while a man who has never once in my presence allowed himself to be visibly undone sits with the knowledge that a recording exists, somewhere on a shelf three feet away from him, that was made by a father he has never met, addressed to a future that man decided to trust would arrive.
