Chapter 48 - Bride of the Shadow King

🌑 Chapter 48: The God Beyond the Rift

The sky split apart.

Darkness swallowed the battlefield as the massive rift above the valley continued expanding endlessly. Lightning crashed like divine judgment, and the earth itself trembled beneath the pressure.

Soldiers fell to their knees.

Some screamed.

Some couldn't even breathe.

Liora stared upward in horror.

Inside the rift—

Something moved.

Something enormous.

Ancient.

Its presence alone felt wrong.

"...What is that…"

Leon gripped his sword tightly.

His hands trembled for the first time.

"...That's not a creature."

The Shadow King's expression darkened completely.

"...An Ancient God."

Silence crushed the battlefield.

🌑 Kael's Madness

Kael floated beneath the rift.

Darkness wrapped around him like chains.

Rain poured across his face.

"...Beautiful, isn't it?"

The Shadow King stepped toward him slowly.

"...You doomed the world."

Kael laughed weakly.

"...The world was doomed long ago."

His golden eyes looked broken now.

"I just opened the door."

The Shadow King's voice hardened.

"...You think destruction will end your pain?"

Kael's smile disappeared.

"...No."

Silence.

"But maybe it will end everyone else's."

Those words hurt more than hatred ever could.

Because beneath all Kael's rage—

Was despair.

Pure despair.

⚡ The Ancient God Awakens

The rift suddenly widened further.

A gigantic eye opened within the darkness.

The battlefield froze instantly.

Liora's breathing stopped.

The eye slowly looked downward.

Watching them.

Judging them.

Ancient whispers echoed across the valley.

Soldiers collapsed screaming.

The weaker mages lost consciousness instantly.

Leon clenched his teeth.

"...Just looking at it hurts."

Dark energy spread like poison across the world.

Mountains cracked.

The sky itself distorted.

And then—

A massive hand began emerging from the rift.

Liora stepped backward instinctively.

"...No…"

The Shadow King raised his blade immediately.

"We have to close the gate now."

Leon nodded.

"But how?!"

Silence.

Then—

Kael spoke quietly.

"...The crystal."

Everyone looked toward him.

"The crystal opened the gate."

His gaze lowered slightly.

"So destroying it completely… can seal it."

Liora frowned.

"But the crystal's already cracked."

Kael nodded slowly.

"...It needs one final source of power."

The Shadow King's eyes narrowed.

"...What kind of power?"

Kael looked directly at him.

"...A soul."

Silence fell instantly.

Liora's heart dropped.

"No…"

đź’” The Price

Kael looked toward the rift above.

"...A life strong enough to seal the gate permanently."

Leon's face darkened.

"...You planned this from the beginning."

Kael smiled faintly.

"...Yes."

The Shadow King stepped forward.

"...Then I'll do it."

Liora froze.

"What?!"

He looked at her quietly.

"I'm the strongest source here."

"No."

Her voice cracked instantly.

"No."

The Shadow King gently touched her face.

"...Liora."

Tears filled her eyes immediately.

"You promised."

His expression softened painfully.

"...I know."

Kael watched silently.

For the first time—

Guilt appeared in his eyes.

🌑 Kael's Regret

The ancient god pushed further through the rift.

The world trembled violently.

Time was running out.

Kael slowly closed his eyes.

"...Brother."

The Shadow King looked at him silently.

Kael laughed weakly.

"...I really made a mess of things."

Lightning flashed across his face.

"...Didn't I?"

Silence lingered.

Then—

The Shadow King answered quietly.

"...You can still help fix it."

Kael froze slightly.

Liora looked between them.

"...Kael."

He looked toward her.

Her eyes held no hatred.

Only sadness.

"...You don't really want this world destroyed."

Kael's expression cracked.

Years of rage.

Pain.

Loneliness.

All collapsing at once.

"...I…"

The ancient god roared.

The battlefield shattered further.

Kael looked upward.

Then slowly laughed.

"...Looks like I don't have time to hate anymore."

He turned toward the crystal.

The Shadow King's eyes widened slightly.

"...Kael."

Kael smiled faintly.

A real smile this time.

"...You always protected me when we were children."

His voice softened.

"...So let me protect something too."

Liora's eyes widened.

"No…"

Kael spread his black wings.

Dark energy surged around him.

The Shadow King stepped forward instantly.

"Kael, stop!"

But Kael shook his head.

"...You still have people waiting for you."

His gaze briefly moved toward Liora.

"...Don't waste that."

The Shadow King's expression finally broke.

"...Brother…"

⚡ Final Sacrifice Begins

Kael flew toward the crystal.

The ancient god roared violently.

Dark tendrils erupted from the rift.

Trying to stop him.

Leon shouted.

"We have to protect him!"

Liora spread her wings instantly.

Golden light exploded.

She attacked the tendrils.

The Shadow King joined beside her.

Darkness and light fought together once more.

But this time—

To save Kael.

Kael reached the crystal slowly.

Dark energy surrounded his body.

The crystal reacted violently.

Cracks spread across it.

The sky trembled.

The ancient god screamed.

Kael placed his hand against the crystal.

His body began turning into dark particles.

Liora's eyes filled with tears.

"...Kael…"

He looked back one final time.

At his brother.

At the world.

At the life he destroyed.

And quietly—

He smiled.
