Chapter 12 - The Third Day, III

Now, I am sure that you're wondering, dear reader, that how is it possible for someone to be kidnapped from my own home and for me to be completely and utterly clueless about it? That, is a secret, my dearest reader, and definitely not a result of my wonderful ability to sleep through almost anything. It was, in fact, after I had arrived home, that she was taken away, and it would take me quite a while to figure out by myself that was the case. You see, when I did finally wake up the next day, my "siblings" weren't really my first thoughts. Like I usually did, I pondered over what I should do next. Of course, that wouldn't really take me anywhere, and after a while, finally realising that Lune was yet to knock on my door, even though at this point it was quite late and I hadn't done my breakfast yet, I got up and left my room.

'Lune,' I called out.

Strange, did she have somewhere to go?

It was quite unlike her to leave unannounced, which made me mildly concerned of her whereabouts. Did some emergency pop up? I decided to check the letter box, but there was nothing of interest there, so I decided to check her room. It was rather ordinary. I expected Lune's room to be…cute, I guess? But it was just a simple room, with a few books stacked on a table, right next to a bed meant for two. The frame was dark, with intricate patterns carved on the headboard, which had an upward curve in the middle.

Why is her bed better than mine??

The walls were off-white, except the right wall, which had a dark green wallpaper on it with golden floral patterns. It was also the wall where her wardrobe was, and a wall clock. The floor, like the rest of the house, was of wood. The room was much bigger than mine. Of course, this wasn't originally meant to be her room, but Fjorcroft's, but his work didn't allow him to stay home, so it ended up becoming hers.

There were no open envelopes, at least not any in sight, not on the table or on the bed, or lying somewhere on the floor, and I didn't really wish to dig any further into her room. It was, after all, her room, and it would be wrong of me to search through it. And why would she hide something in the first place?

If not that…then what else?

I reasoned that she would return home by herself soon enough. She probably left for a walk or to buy something she needed—nothing that should be a cause of concern. Clueless as I was, I made myself some breakfast, which was just bread toasted with melted butter. I didn't really have the motivation to make anything better, especially if it was only for breakfast.

I kept going with my day, which was mainly me just sitting in my room and losing my mind wondering what I should do next, thoughts I won't bore you with, until about an hour and a half had gone by, when finally, I began to be just a little concerned.

What's taking her this long? Did something happen?

I got up and decided to go take a look, but before I left the house, I turned back and headed back into my room. On my table was the pouch from the previous night, still unopened. This will either be the best decision of my life, or the worst. I took the pouch with my, tugging it in the inner pocket of my long coat, before finally leaving to look for her. Of course, searching for a single person in a city as big as Vielle was no easy task, especially when I had no idea where they could have gone. Let me remind you, dear reader, I did not yet know that she was kidnapped. I still had hope that even if I didn't find her, she would still return. At most, I would be scolding her for leaving unannounced.

I walked the streets of Vielle, making my way to the market, then around my university, then to a small cafe near that which she often visited, but not today, it seemed. Still, I decided to stop by. The bartender was friendly, as usual, greeting me with a smile on her face as she asked, 'the usual?' and I replied with a nod as I took my seat at the far corner, a seat that might as well be reserved for Zoras at that point. That was, though, because he didn't really have that many friends, and those he did have, like Clint, were usually busy with their own stuff.

Honestly, this Zoras needs to get himself a life.

While I waited for my coffee, I stared out the white windows, at the streets filled with people. Some were in a rush, others enjoyed their little stroll. There was a woman holding her child, walking slowly as to keep up with them, while there was a couple who walked slow simply to enjoy their time with each other a little longer. There was a man who sped past them, running as if his life was on the line, and judging from his messy tie, his coat in one of his hands, and his suitcase in another, and a bread in his mouth that he was chewing on—his life, most likely, was on the line. It was a wonderful little sight, and though Zoras wouldn't have cared one bit about it, I did. I liked watching people simply being people.

I did still have to search for her though, or not…

Did I have any obligation to go look for her…other than the fact that Zoras would?

It wasn't as if she was my own sister.

I wasn't Zoras.

I didn't intend to be.

There was no reason for me to go through all this trouble.

She should be home by the evening anyway…hopefully.

While I busy contemplating all that, the bell atop the door rang. I shifted my gaze to the door, through which walked a young boy with blonde hair. He walked up to the counter, ordering something. I shifted my gaze back, looking outside as I patiently waited for my drink, which, for some reason, was taking quite a while to arrive.

'May I sit here?'

I turned to see the same young boy.

'Sure,' I said.

His eyes were a shade of sapphire, and his hair was a golden blonde. His skin was fair, and he radiated this air of purity and innocence. He pulled the chair and sat down with grace, his legs crossed as he leaned behind, crossing his fingers and resting them on his thigh.

'Do you like the view from here?' he asked.

'I'm sorry?'

'I noticed you staring outside.'

'Oh, yes. I do enjoy it here.'

The young boy smiled. He finds that amusing? I thought.

'I am so sorry for the delay, sir.'

The waitress arrived, seemingly in a panic as she apologised, holding in a tray two cups of coffee.

'It's fine,' I replied.

'Thank you, sir,' she said as she gently placed the two cups on the round wooden table. She then bowed her head, and apologised to me once again for the delay, then left.

'I guess they punish you harshly here for being late?'

'Perhaps,' I said, taking a sip of my coffee. 'I don't think we've introduced ourselves yet. I'm Zoras Embers.'

'Embers…I'm sure I have heard that name before. Perhaps you were a noble once?'

'The House of Embers was indeed a noble house once, but let us not talk about that, shall we?'

'I apologise if that was rude,' he said with a slight nod. 'I am Finn. Just Finn. It's a pleasure to be your acquaintance.'

'It's a pleasure to meet you too, Just Finn.'
