The lobster-spider hybrid slammed into the ground, now completely immobile. It flailed its massive claws wildly, letting out furious, helpless roars as its enormous body spun in place like a broken top.
Bang! Bang!
Two sharp gunshots cracked through the chamber.
The old lady, who had been patiently waiting for her moment, finally seized the opening as the creature turned. Her bullets slammed straight into one of its bulging eyes, exploding a messy spray of fluid.
"Got it!" she cheered, pumping her fist with a satisfied grin. "Looks like I still got it!"
Blinded and unable to move, the monster completely lost control. It thrashed its giant claws in a frenzy, smashing anything within reach while its mouth gaped open, spraying thick black ink in every direction.
The rest of the group scattered, ducking for cover.
Schoolteacher Amanda was halfway up a metal ladder, desperately trying to reach the platform to shut down the pulse device. Just as she was making progress, a stream of corrosive ink swept across the top of the ladder.
The ladder snapped with a metallic groan.
"AAAAHHH!!!"
Amanda let out a terrified scream, clawing uselessly at the air as she fell.
At that height, even landing on the pile of corpses below would likely be fatal.
Her mind went blank. She squeezed her eyes shut on instinct.
Right before impact, a pair of strong arms reached out of the darkness and caught her safely.
The expected bone-crushing pain never came.
Amanda opened her eyes in shock—only to find herself staring at a towering figure in a massive triangular iron helmet. Two cute little deer antlers jutted out from the sides of the rust-covered headpiece.
Facing this unknown creature, Amanda felt no fear at all.
Adrenaline still pumping, and driven by some strange instinct, she reached out and gently touched one of the antlers.
The figure vanished in a wisp of black mist.
Amanda landed hard on her ass with a thud. It hurt like hell, but she was alive.
High above on the platform, Alessa sat quietly on the edge, legs dangling and swinging gently.
The moment the giant lobster-spider appeared, Soren had quietly summoned her to watch over the fragile civilians.
He had given her clear instructions: only pull them into Silent Hill if they were in immediate mortal danger.
He didn't want to expose these ordinary people to the Otherworld unless absolutely necessary. Dealing with the aftermath would be a pain.
After spraying ink like crazy for a while, the monster's attacks grew weaker and slower. Its flailing claws eventually dropped as it collapsed onto the gore-covered floor, chest still heaving.
Seeing it had finally stopped thrashing, Soren gripped Alastor and walked over at a leisurely pace.
He lined up his strike on the creature's left claw, which was wedged in the floor, and brought the lightning sword down hard.
Schlick!
Foul-smelling fluid sprayed everywhere. The monster howled in agony and tried one last desperate swing with its remaining right claw.
Its mouth opened wide again, the upper body convulsing, but nothing came out—no more ink.
Soren took a few steps back and simply watched it struggle.
After a few more weak attempts, the exhausted creature finally went limp.
Soren stepped forward again. With a flash of lightning, he severed the second massive claw as well.
He tapped the pair of severed claws with the flat of his blade. The hardness felt promising. Might be useful for Nico to work with later. He stored them in the Silent Hill domain.
Now reduced to nothing but a torso, the monster weakly shook its head. It had nothing left.
Soren had no interest in toying with it. He gripped Alastor with both hands, leaped high into the air, and brought the sword down in one clean strike, severing the creature's head completely.
The system notification chimed in his mind right on cue.
[Ding!]
[Killed Spider-Lobster Hybrid. Points awarded: 2000]
[Bloodline Awakening increased to: 11%]
"Even killing something like this gives points?" Soren thought, pleasantly surprised by the extra 1% bloodline progress.
Behind him, however, the group had gone completely silent.
Andrei, Amanda, and even the old lady—who usually treated life and death so casually—stood frozen, faces stiff with shock.
Even though they had seen Soren in action back at the hardware store, watching him solo a three-story-tall monster that could probably take on an entire military squad was something else entirely.
For these ordinary people who barely handled guns, this kind of superhuman power was far more terrifying than the monsters themselves.
Clancy stared at the footage on his camera, face flushed red, body trembling with pure excitement.
Soren ignored their reactions and turned toward the pulsing device that was still humming loudly.
He waved a hand behind him, signaling everyone to fall back in case things went wrong.
They snapped out of their daze and helped each other retreat to a safer distance.
Soren took a deep breath. Demonic power surged into Alastor until the blade blazed with blinding lightning, making him look like a thunder god descended to earth.
He raised the sword with both hands and brought it down in a devastating overhead slash against the massive pulse device.
BOOOOM—
The steady energy pulses at the front of the machine suddenly went haywire, accelerating wildly.
Then the humming cut off completely as a violent explosion tore through the device from the inside.
The deafening blast echoed through the vast underground chamber, ringing painfully in everyone's ears.
With the energy source destroyed, the long spatial rift in the opposite wall finally stopped expanding.
Under the world's natural repair process, the edges of the rift slowly began to contract inward.
Watching the gateway to the unknown dimension shrink, Amanda and the others finally relaxed. Relief washed over their pale faces.
Andrei slumped against the wall, wiping sweat from his forehead. "Holy shit… it's finally over…"
But just as the rift had almost sealed shut—leaving only a two-meter-wide gap—
Crunch!
A pair of long, pale-gray claws shot out from the closing fissure and clamped desperately onto the edges!
The nearly-closed rift started widening again.
Soren's eyes sharpened. He raised Alastor once more, lightning crackling violently around the blade.
A smooth, faceless head forced its way through the gap.
The creature's wrinkled skin split open like a blooming flower, revealing a horrifying circular mouth packed with rows of razor-sharp teeth spinning like a meat grinder.
"HISSSSS!!!"
The monster let out a piercing, blood-curdling shriek.
Seeing that signature movement, a flash of surprise crossed Soren's eyes.
Demogorgon?!
Isn't that the monster from Stranger Things?
How the hell did one of those crawl out through a subspace rift?
Surprised or not, his hands didn't slow down for a second.
"Whatever the fuck you are—eat this!"
While the creature's body was still stuck in the narrowing gap, Soren exploded forward like lightning. Alastor stabbed straight into the center of the Demogorgon's wide-open, flower-like mouth.
Schlunk!
Lightning detonated inside its throat. Black blood sprayed everywhere.
The sudden attack caused the claws gripping the rift to lose strength. The Demogorgon was forced back into the closing fissure.
With the final obstacle gone, the spatial rift sealed completely.
