Chapter 44 - What Are You Mumbling About!

Nick Fury, the accustomed to having his way, huffed with indignant breath. His mind was already calculating how to "handle" this high schooler who didn't know the height of the heavens or the depth of the earth.

For instance, he could feign agreement to the terms, then quietly take control of the boy's guardians.

First, let the kid's mental defenses shatter in despair, then make a heroic entrance to "rescue" the guardians himself. It would make the boy realize how small he truly was while leaving him weeping with gratitude and bowing in submission.

Fury hadn't reached the Director's chair by being a saint; he had more skeletons in his closet than a graveyard. Carrying out such an operation wouldn't spark even a flicker of guilt in him!

"Coulson, get me the complete files on Peter Parker's guardians and all his close associates!"

Standing nearby, Natasha heard this and knew immediately that Fury wasn't planning anything good. Before meeting Peter, she wouldn't have seen a problem with this.

After all, her entire upbringing had taught her that "collateral damage" was negligible in pursuit of an objective.

But now, perhaps it was the restoration of her health awakening her dormant maternal instincts, or perhaps she was profoundly shaken by the sheer force of will Peter showed in protecting his family.

As she stared at Fury's profile, the Director looked increasingly repulsive—less like a leader and more like a villain.

A hesitant Natasha finally made a decision that betrayed her role: "Director, I must remind you—Peter Parker's power far exceeds your imagination. What he showed in that video is just the tip of the iceberg."

Fury turned impatiently, his single eye sweeping over her. "Besides being strong and repairing inanimate objects, what else can he do?"

"He..." Natasha took a deep breath. "He can heal the human body. He can even regrow severed limbs!"

The look in Fury's eye shifted instantly. His suspicion was true—the kid could actually repair biological matter!

If that were the case, not only was the Captain savable, but Fury himself could have a lifelong guarantee of health! Agents crippled in the line of duty wouldn't have to be discharged immediately! Essentially, if he controlled Peter Parker, he could turn every S.H.I.E.L.D.

subordinate into a nuclear-powered workhorse.

Even better, he could use Peter's ability to accumulate massive political capital. Every old politician had some chronic ailment.

If Peter cured them... the favors owed would be astronomical! With those favors, S.H.I.E.L.D. could do whatever it wanted.

Greed instantly replaced Fury's anger, and his vision became "clear." If the boy was truly that miraculous, agreeing to a few minor demands wasn't out of the question.

However... he couldn't let the boy win that easily. He still had to test him, to lowball him as much as possible. Otherwise, if Peter set a precedent, how could Fury recruit the other "Avengers"?

"Natasha..." Fury's voice dropped to a low, calculated register, reassuming his persona as the wise mastermind. "After he finishes school, invite him here. I need to have a proper talk with the boy."

Natasha rolled her eyes inwardly but spoke obediently: "Yes, Director."

Night fell, and the city lights flickered to life. Peter, having settled things with Uncle Ben and Aunt May, stepped out of the house only to find Natasha leaning against a black SUV waiting for him. After a few pleasantries, Peter hopped in and was driven straight to S.H.I.E.L.D. New York branch.

Looking at the surroundings—both familiar and foreign from his memories—a faint smirk played on his lips. Sheep pen, here I come!

In the office, Nick Fury was monitoring Peter's movements via security cameras. Seeing the boy looking around like a wide-eyed country bumpkin, Fury let out a dismissive chuckle. A kid is just a kid. Nothing to worry about.

He straightened his coat, preparing to unleash his overbearing "Director's presence" the moment Peter walked through the door to intimidate him.

Unfortunately, Peter seemed completely oblivious to the atmosphere. In fact, the moment he saw Fury, he frowned slightly and turned to Natasha.

""Are you serious? The famous Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. is actually a control freak?"

Hearing the forbidden word nearly slip out, Natasha and the standing Coulson barely held their composure.

They both had to mentally recall the saddest moments of their lives to keep from breaking, before Natasha snapped, irritation clear in her tone:

"Do not be disrespectful to the Director."

Fury's single eye bulged with rage, veins throbbing in his forehead as he fumed. He had spent years in high-ranking positions, controlling the world's most mysterious agency—when had he ever been insulted to his face like this?

For a moment, he nearly flipped the table. But considering Peter's utility, he forced down his anger.

He squeezed out a smile that looked more painful than a sob and said with feigned magnanimity:

"Actually, Some freaks have made great strides in many fields. Having a friek Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't—"

"Stop, stop, stop!" Peter cut him off. "I'm not here for a lecture on social progress. You just need to tell me if you accept my terms. That's enough."

A vein popped on Fury's forehead. He was about done with this annoying brat. He let out a cold snort, deciding it was time to show the boy some muscle.

"Peter, I understand your mindset. A teenager suddenly gaining power often thinks the world belongs to them. It's normal."

"But you need to realize the world isn't as simple as you think! There are things in this world you cannot solve alone! For example, without my permission, do you really think you can walk out of S.H.I.E.L.D. "

"What are you mumbling about?"

Once again, Peter crudely cut him off.

Vroom—

He opened his right hand, and violent energy began to gather rapidly in his palm! This time, it wasn't just a simple Rasengan.

Peter didn't bother controlling the form; he let his internal chakra flood into it without restraint.

As the chakra poured in, the high-speed blue orb expanded at a terrifying rate. In the blink of an eye, it grew into a massive energy sphere over a meter in diameter.

The terrifying energy fluctuations caused nearby sensors to scream with high-pitched alarms!

Even more terrifying? It was still growing!

Facing the horrified, "looking at a monster" stares of Natasha, Fury, and Coulson, Peter bared his teeth in a harmless, sunny smile:

"I'm leaving now. Try and stop me. I dare you."
