Su Mu immediately pulled up the Hero System interface. The once-simple panel had become far more detailed.
Previously, he could only see his name, level, and talent. Now, a complete four-dimensional attribute panel had been added.
Name: Su Mu Level: LV35 Strength: 40Constitution: 40 Agility: 40 Intelligence: 43 Free Attribute Points: 35 Talent: Clone (LV8) Gold: 51,055
According to the descriptions attached to the panel, a Hero gains +1 to all attributes every time they level up, along with 1 additional free attribute point.
Based on this, Su Mu's initial attributes had been a mere 5, 5, 5, and 8. These values perfectly matched his former life as a shut-in—aside from his slightly stronger mental fortitude, every other stat had been at a sub-optimal health level. He was a completely different person compared to his current self.
Beyond the optimized attribute panel, the system also unlocked a personal storage space. Its initial volume was 1 cubic meter, which could be expanded by spending gold.
However, this wasn't particularly useful to Su Mu. Between the apartment's vast space and his free custom permissions as Manager, he essentially had infinite storage, making the personal space redundant.
More importantly, the loot mechanism had been updated. Previously, killing monsters only yielded experience and gold; now, there was a chance for additional items to drop.
As if to prove the point, a kill notification popped up right on cue.
[Killed F-rank Monster (Hungry Ghost). Gained 2,269 Experience, 100 Gold, and Weapon: Hungry Fang.]
With a flick of his hand, a palm-sized, pitch-black curved fang appeared in Su Mu's palm. Its tip glinted with a faint, cold light. He focused his mind to check the item's details.
Weapon: Hungry Fang Level: LV1 Quality: Common Attributes: Strength +1, Agility +1 Description: A sharp fang taken from the mouth of a Hungry Ghost. It carries a lingering, faint aura of gluttony.
"Heroes, systems, loot... it feels like I've been transported into some kind of fan-made RPG," Su Mu mused.
With a slight movement of his fingers, he sent the Hungry Fang into the apartment's storage and began allocating his 35 free attribute points. Considering the diversity of his clones' abilities, he chose a balanced distribution. Since his clones' levels and attributes synchronized perfectly with his own, a well-rounded development would allow him to handle more unexpected situations.
Once the allocation was finished, Su Mu's attributes were updated: 50, 50, 50, 48.
Each attribute now exceeded the human limit by four to five times. The increase in overall combat power wasn't a simple addition, but a multiplicative growth resulting from the synergy between stats. He had surpassed the human limit by dozens of times.
Having finished his stats, Su Mu activated his shared consciousness. He synchronized his vision with Himeko and Fu Hua to observe the hunting situation outside while planning his next steps.
Himeko and Fu Hua were currently walking through the ruins, the rubble crunching softly beneath their feet.
The Goblins near the apartment had been completely wiped out; not a trace of them remained along their path. However, the ruins never lacked monsters, as evidenced by the Hungry Ghost they had just killed.
The Hungry Ghost was similar in size to a Goblin but was tall and emaciated. Its limbs were as thin as withered wood, and its skin had a sickly, greyish-yellow hue—a clear sign of an agility-type monster specialized in ambushes.
Its most striking feature was its mouth, which took up nearly half its head. Two rows of sharp, interlocking teeth gnashed together, while foul-smelling saliva dripped from the corners of its lips.
Even more unsettling was the secondary mouth located on its abdomen. It had no teeth, only a thick, oversized tongue covered in tiny barbs and viscous fluid that flicked in and out, emitting a nauseating odor.
The moment the Hungry Ghost spotted the two women, it let out a shrill screech and lunged at them like a phantom.
Himeko was about to reach for her jagged saw-blade, but Fu Hua moved first. She tapped the ground with her toe and blurred into the air. Gold-red light converged in her palm. With a soft cry, a sphere of gold-red energy shot forward, incinerating the Hungry Ghost instantly. It didn't even have a chance to struggle.
"Even though the registration issue is solved, Master really should come out and gain some experience personally, don't you think?" Himeko said casually as she walked over to Fu Hua, looking at the charred remains.
Fu Hua nodded slightly, her eyes scanning the depths of the ruins. Her tone was steady. "Mm. Though, if he doesn't want to come out, that's fine too. We are here to hunt and protect, and the apartment is safe enough... But just in case, we need to increase our levels quickly. I have a feeling that once we break past Level 40, not only will the apartment change, but more secrets of this world will begin to surface."
"Is that a warrior's intuition, Senior Fu Hua?" Himeko teased with a raised eyebrow, curiosity in her eyes.
"No, it's a woman's sixth sense," Fu Hua replied. Her expression was so deadpan and serious that Himeko couldn't help but chuckle. The tense atmosphere of the hunt softened slightly.
Just then, Fu Hua's eyes narrowed. Her gaze locked onto a gap in the ruins not far ahead. "...Hm? What are those?"
Himeko followed her gaze and saw several staggering figures slowly emerging from behind a collapsed wall. They wore tattered clothing, and their skin was a stiff, grayish-white. Their eyes were cloudy and lifeless, and their limbs moved with mechanical rigidity. They were the zombies commonly found in countless works of fiction.
"Zombies," Himeko noted, her tone becoming slightly more somber.
"To think such creatures exist in this world," Fu Hua said, her brow furrowing. "Viruses spread easily. If they manage to slip into human settlements, it would likely spawn a massive horde. The consequences would be catastrophic."
"The impact of a virus varies from person to person," Himeko analyzed, watching the sluggish zombies. "Based on the information Misaki-san brought back, ordinary humans still make up the vast majority of this world. They likely can't resist a viral infection. However, Heroes with awakened talents have constitutions far beyond normal people. They might be immune. But..."
She paused, a thoughtful look in her eyes. "If killing zombies can drop items, could there be a serum or something similar? If we could get our hands on a serum, we could control the situation even if an infection broke out."
"That is a possibility," Fu Hua agreed, her voice firm. "But since we've run into them, let's clear them out first. While these individual zombies are weak, the threat of the virus can't be ignored."
"Naturally."
Himeko nodded. The two exchanged a glance and immediately began their sweep.
[Killed F-rank Monster (Zombie). Gained 27 Hunting Experience, 1 Gold.]
Several identical prompts popped up in succession. It was clear that zombies were at the very bottom of the F-rank monster hierarchy. These stiff creatures, moving at a snail's pace, were practically an embarrassment to their species. To Himeko and Fu Hua, they were nothing more than fodder to be cleared at a whim.
