Lucifer's POV
I was late again and this time, it actually mattered.
I slammed the penthouse door behind me, heels clicking fast against marble floors as I moved like I had something to prove because I did... The clock on the wall mocked me, I had less than thirty minutes before Sebastián would be here.
Thirty minutes to become someone else for tonight... Sabrina.
Not Lucifer... Not the woman who stood in ashes hours ago, smelling like smoke and vengeance and definitely not the one hunting a ghost in a badge.
No... Tonight, I had to be soft.
I exhaled sharply, dragging my fingers through my hair as I walked straight into my room, already peeling off my jacket. My body felt heavy... exhaustion clinging to my bones but I didn't let it slow me down.
I didn't have that luxury.
I yanked open my wardrobe and stared at my dresses... Too many of them for someone who hardly wore any.
My eyes scanned quickly before settling on one.
Black... Of course it was black.
Long, sleek and deadly in the most elegant way. A high slit running up the side like a secret waiting to be discovered. It wasn't soft... it was powerful, just like me.
I set it aside and quickly rushed to the bathroom for a quick shower... I washed off the smoke, ashes and anger.
As soon as I was done, I stepped out and got ready.
I pulled the dress on without hesitation after doing a light makeup and styling my hair... Within fifteen minutes, I barely recognized myself.
The dress hugged me like it was made for my body. The slit revealed just enough leg to be distracting without trying too hard. My hair fell in loose waves over my shoulders, makeup subtle but with my signature red lipstick, it was sharp enough to command attention.
I looked… Fabulous and dangerous.
My favorite look... I stared at my reflection for a second longer than necessary just before the doorbell rang.
Right on time.
I grabbed my clutch, slipped on my heels properly, and walked out... each step measured, confident and by the time I opened the door, I wasn't rushing anymore... I was composed and wearing my best smile.
"Hi baby." I said.
Seb stood there, looking exactly like the kind of man people built fantasies around.
Tailored suit, perfect structure and effortless confidence but the moment his eyes landed on me... Everything else faded.
"Jesus…" he breathed, stepping in slightly like he needed to get closer to confirm I was real. "Sabrina…"
There it was, that look like I had knocked the air out of him.
I leaned casually against the doorframe, one brow lifting. "What? You look like you have never seen a woman before."
He let out a low laugh, shaking his head. "Not like this, I haven't."
His gaze dragged down slowly, taking in the dress, the slit, the way I stood.
I didn't move... I just stood there and let him look.
"Careful," I teased softly. "You might fall in love."
"I am already in love with your entire existence," he murmured, stepping closer. "If this is what saying yes looks like, I should have asked you years ago."
Something in my chest shifted... I didn't like how easily he got to me but at the same time, I loved it.
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," I said, brushing past him lightly. "I might change my mind."
He chuckled, following behind me. "You will do no such thing."
"You can't be so sure, Seb." I teased as we made our way to the car.
The ride was quiet, comfortable... I was glad he didn't drive because honestly, he couldn't take his eyes off me.
I sat beside him in the backseat, watching the city lights blur past the window, my mind… not where it should be.
Not here, not with him fully.
Pieces of it were still at that warehouse, still with Red... Hoping he finds something that can help us identify the cop.
Sebastián's hand brushed against mine.
I stilled slightly, then he intertwined our fingers like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"You are quiet," he said softly.
"I am thinking."
"That's dangerous."
I huffed a small laugh. "You have no idea."
He squeezed my hand gently. "Whatever it is… leave it for tonight."
I turned my head to look at him.
He meant it, he didn't know the half of it but he meant it and for a second… I wanted to listen but I couldn't help it, still I nodded.
"Okay, I will leave it for the night."
"Good." He said just as the car slowed down then stopped.
The driver stepped out first, moving around to open Sebastián's door and then... Chaos, flashes, voices and cameras everywhere.
"SIR! OVER HERE!"
"SEBASTIÁN!"
My body tensed instantly even as I was still in the car.
Of course this would happen... This was exactly why I never wanted to follow him out, to go to events or show up with him.
The spotlight, exposure and eyes everywhere, I hated it... I hated the attention.
Sebastián stepped out first, completely unfazed, then turned to my side, opened the door and offered me his hand.
"Ready?" he asked, calm.
No but it didn't matter... I took his hand anyway.
The moment I stepped out... The flashes hit harder, blinding and intrusive.
"IS THAT HER?!" "LOOK THIS WAY!"
I felt it immediately... that instinct to retreat, to disappear, to shut it all down.
Lucifer didn't do crowds, Lucifer didn't do attention but Sabrina? Sabrina has to, so I smiled.
I leaned slightly into him, playing the part effortlessly, even as every instinct in me screamed to scan exits, identify threats, control the environment.
Instead, I waved lightly.
Let them take their pictures, let them see what they wanted.
Because tonight? I was here for Seb, to shut down all the rumor, to help his company back on track and mostly to make him happy.
The restaurant sat above the city, lights stretching endlessly below us like a kingdom waiting to be ruled.
We got to the rooftop. "Wow, this is beautiful."
It was elegant and expensive.
Sebastián had taste, I will give him that.
"Thanks, I am glad you like it."
Dinner was… easy.
Good food, better wine and the conversation flowed like we hadn't spent years apart.
He told me about work, about expansion plans, about things that sounded normal but still screamed power.
I listened and I watched him, really watched him.
The way he spoke, the way he carried himself and the way he looked at me like I wasn't a risk, like I was home.
It made something in my chest tighten as I realized he hasn't changed at all, he was still the same guy I fell in love with years ago.
"You are doing it again," he said suddenly.
"Doing what?"
"Thinking too hard."
I smirked slightly. "Maybe you are just not interesting enough."
He laughed, leaning back. "Careful. I might start trying harder."
"You are perfect." I assured him.
"And you are the best part if me."
I blushed but said nothing.
Dessert had just arrived when everything shifted, subtly but I felt it.
Sebastián suddenly stood.
I frowned slightly. "Where are you going?"
He didn't answer.
Instead, he reached into his jacket.
My stomach dropped.
"No," I murmured under my breath.
He stepped closer, then... he got down on one knee and the entire rooftop went silent. Completely.
Every eye was on us, every camera was ready.
"Seb..." I started, low, warning.
I mean I already signed the contract. I am all his, so proposing officially was absolutely not necessary.
"Sabrina," he said, voice steady, eyes locked on mine. "I know this wasn't part of the deal."
Good... At least he knew.
"But nothing about you has ever been part of a deal for me."
My chest tightened.
"I have always loved you," he continued. "And I never stopped. Not when you left, not when everything changed."
Damn him.
"And I don't ever want to lose you again, not even for a brief second. So marry me," he said simply.
He paused briefly. "Not just on paper."
Silence pressed in, heavy.
"This isn't necessary," I said quietly, eyes flicking briefly to the crowd, then back to him.
"I know," he said. "But I want it anyway."
Of course he did... Because he loved too openly, too fearlessly and I... I was the exact opposite.
I looked at him... This man who knew I am Lucifer, who knew what I was capable of, who knew the darkness, who had seen enough to walk away and didn't.
Who needed me now in a way he never had before and still stood here, choosing me...
I exhaled slowly.
"…You are insane," I murmured.
A small smile touched his lips. "Probably."
Then I smiled... "Yes."
The word left my lips before I could overthink it and the rooftop instantly erupted in applause and cheers, while cameras started flashing again.
Sebastián stood immediately, pulling me into him like he couldn't help it.
"You just made me the happiest man alive," he whispered against my hair.
I didn't respond because I wasn't exactly sure what I just made myself.
"An easy target?"
