Chapter 9 - What he waited for

An emergency meeting had to be called at the Trinity Academy after what had just happened today.

Losing such a huge number of students in such a mysterious manner could not only result to the academy being investigated, but the entire school could be shut down completely.

The dome has always been the strongest protective system of the Academy. It was created using layers and layers of defensive spells that could stand even the power of a god. But today, it was almost brought down in a mysterious manner that nobody could understand how?

It was almost like the spells were being nullified, a first in a thousand of years since the academy was established. Leave alone that, something that strong to temper with the ancient spells, that could not be ignored.

"I mean... I was standing just there." Emmanuel muttered subconsciously while looking at the table right in front of him, with light driven from his face.

He was part of 24 board members that overseas the progress of this school, worse, he was even one of the members of the witches council, and if that one meeting would be called, he needed to have proper answers as everything happened right in front of his eyes.

"I felt the ground breaking beneath my feet and..." He paused as if what he was about to say next was ultimately impossible to happen, but knowing he had no other choice but to tell the truth, he took a deep sigh while opening his mouth to speak.

"... All the magic I had suddenly vanished. I couldn't do anything. I couldn't cast even a simple protective spell. But what I don't understand is why did the ground swallow just them and not me... I mean... Not us." He muttered while his gaze shifted to a far corner of the room where two unusual members had joined the meeting today.

The two joining the meeting of board of members that consists of 24 members all of mixed race were none other than the two guides who chipped in, one taking the vampires teenagers to the intended destination, while the other one dealing with the werewolves.

They all experienced the same thing as Emmanuel, watching as the young future of their races got swallowed by the ground.

It wasn't like it was only the young teenagers who mysteriously vanished from the academy. A hundred and fifty seven adults were also missing from the school, among them being Emma, the headmistress of the academy.

That's to say, all the bus drivers that had driven to the camp to pick the teenagers had mysteriously vanished, which was abit perplexing as this seemed to be affecting a specific selected individuals.

They couldn't tell if the camp was also affected, but they knew something wasn't right over there since they couldn't return the calls.

"Do you think it is it?" An old man of pale skin and slightly crimson eyes finally muttered.

They have been discussing for hours of what could have been the cause of this. And since none of them seemed to be coming up with a proper answer, they all came to a conclusion that none of them wished for it to happen this soon, even though they have been waiting for it for eternity.

"No... No it's not." Emmanuel cut in quick as he understood the magnitude of this, but this only made it even more worse.

"Come on old man." Another young werewolf suddenly hit the table and sending the entire room to a complete silence. "Quite the denial. The anomaly is happening and it's about time we get to prepare for anything."

"You might be doing a great job to hide it but, now that I think of it, this all started from the camp. All of my investigation seemed to be pointing to that direction." He spoke while standing and adjusting his black expensive suit.

"The only thing I need from the academy is to make sure that my brother, Derek gets to get back home safely. The rest would be handled by the Silver Moon pack, or any other person who is interested." Jackson muttered while turning around and started walking out of the room.

What everybody already suspected had been confirmed, and as if to get a heads start, the rest of the board members suddenly dashed out of the room while making some quick phone calls to direct their resources to the camp.

"Shouldn't we talk to the Snow siblings? I feel like they'd know better since they were there when it was created." The vampire who was the guid earlier suddenly spoke, but this only earned him a bloodlust glare from Emmanuel.

"Do you wanna talk to the the Snow siblings!?" He asked, almost shouting with voice full of murderous intended.

If you leave alone the anomaly, the Snow siblings were another taboo that nobody wishes to speak of. That's why hearing them casually being mentioned like this made Emmanuel's chest to burn with anger as he couldn't handle the pressure anymore.

"I'd rather slit my throat." He added, almost whispering as he understood who exactly they were.

[5 free stat points has been given.]

This is what Agra has been waiting for all along, to level up from 0 to level 1, and he has finally achieved it.

He thought he would receive maybe just one or two stat points. But to his surprise, the system has give him, not one or two, but five of them.

He wasted no time. His trembling fingers hovered over the status screen, each choice feeling heavier than the thorns raining down around him.

One point into Health, the bar pulsed, climbing by five figures. A small buffer, but enough to mean the difference between staggering back to his feet or collapsing in the dirt.

The remaining four… these were the gamble between strength, Durability and Dexterity.

Strength. The raw force behind his blows. He imagined the Bloodshatter Fist detonating with greater impact, bones cracking, defenses rupturing, but at this moment decided to ignore it as he was currently facing opponents with weak defense.

Moving on, Durability. His body's endurance, the ability to keep fighting even as fatigue gnawed at his muscles. He thought of the ache already burning in his limbs, the way his stamina was bleeding away. And without wasting time, two points were locked in, the bar thickening like armor around his frame and increasing by two points.

The Dexterity. Reflexes, instinct, speed. The skill to dodge death itself.

He remembered the thorn that had nearly pierced his skull, the fraction of a second that had saved him. And with that, two points flowed into Dexterity, the bar sharpening, his senses tingling as if the world itself slowed around him, and the bar increasing by two points.

Getting done, this is how his status screen looked like.
