Chapter 33 - The hidden secret no one knew about

Eden Grace

Eden's eyes widened in shock when she saw who stood behind him.

Grandpa Blackthorn had arrived and beside him was Dr. Martinez.

Dr. Martinez…? Confusion flickered across her face. How were they together? Had they known each other all this time?

Grandpa Blackthorn stepped forward, his presence alone forcing several wolves to instinctively lower their heads.

He sneered, "Ashton! How dare you put on such a cowardly act! Surrounding a young wolf with your entire pack. Is this what the great Calveris pride has fallen to?"

The forest fell silent under the weight of his words.

Elder Calveris's eyes hardened as he stepped forward. "Your grandson is the one who crossed the line first! He walked into my territory, sent his men to my pack, and even brought his wolfless woman to mock my son's condition…? How could I stand still?"

Grandpa Blackthorn shot a sharp glare at Cassian and Eden. Eden shrieked, hiding behind Cassian.

"I understand your dissatisfaction but do you think killing is the option? Also, all they offered was to treat your son. Why are you being so cruel?"

Elder Calveris let out a harsh laugh. "Treat?" he mocked. "And that also from a wolfless, scandalous doctor like her!? Tell me Alexander, if you were in the place would you allow her?"

"I already am, Ashton." Elder Blackthorn said, shocking everyone present, especially Elder Calveris.

Elder Blackthorn looked straight at him. "You already know the great damage my body has suffered from the countless wars I fought for you. When nobody could calm my seizures she cured it within seconds. This young woman right here is treating me, that too without surgery. I must say I'm beginning to improve now."

What? Without surgery? Elder Calveris stared in shock, disbelief flashing across his face. How could such a young woman be a genius doctor? Isn't Alexander bluffing to evade the punishment?

"May I add something too?" Dr. Martinez stepped in.

Elder Calveris's eyes widened in shock as soon he saw him. "Dr. Martinez…?" he muttered in disbelief. "What are you doing here?"

"Ashton, do you remember the pill I sent you yesterday through courier?" Dr. Martinez asked calmly.

"Yes..?" Elder Calveris nodded. Yesterday one of Dr. Martinez's medicines had helped to calm Lucien's seizures for a long time when no others could. He couldn't help demanding more of it.

"That pill was made by none other than this child itself."

Elder Calveris stared at him in shock. "Do you think this is the time to joke? How could that young woman create something like that?"

Dr. Martinez raised an eyebrow. "Why not? Do you think a child working under me cannot do this?"

That child is working under Dr. Martinez!? Who is known for making exceptional medicines? Both Grandpa Blackthorn and Elder Calveris were shocked.

"Mr. Aston Calveris, now tell me, do you dare reject this child's offer? The child who is under me?" Dr. Martinez challenged him.

A cold sweat broke through Elder Calveris. He could not undermine Dr. Martinez's claim out of all.

The man's authority in medicine was unquestionable. Did that mean Alexander's words were also true?

His gaze fell on Eden. Could this young woman standing before him truly be capable of something like this?

"Move aside. All of you," he barked immediately. "Make way for them and release their captured wolves. Quickly."

"What?" Malrik stared at him in disbelief. "Dad, are you serious? Are you really letting her treat Lucien?"

"Shut up, you fool!" Elder Calveris snapped sharply. "Do as I say! If Dr. Martinez says she can do it, so be it!"

The surrounding werewolves stepped back at once.

Eden quietly let out the breath she had been holding. They had made it through alive!

Soon they entered the heart of the territory and were led straight into Lucien's chamber. Eden's steps slowed the moment she saw him.

The Alpha of Claveris pack…! Lucien Calveris!

He was laying motionless on the bed, his body pale and completely unconscious.

Rachel, who was holding a bowl of medicine, was shocked the moment she saw Eden step inside the room.

Even the famous doctor Benedict was standing there, his expression dark as he examined the unconscious Alpha.

Rachel burst out, "Grandpa! What is she doing here?"

Elder Calveris spoke firmly, his tone surprisingly calm. "Step aside, Rachel. I'll explain to you later. She needs to examine Lucien first."

What? Grandpa Claveris was personally allowing her to examine Lucien? Rachel's venomous glare pierced through Eden. What did this wench do!?

Eden ignored hostility and walked toward Lucien. His breathing was shallow and uneven as he laid motionless.

Eden slowly placed two fingers on Lucien's wrist to check his pulse. Ishira immediately stirred, activating Eden's divine eyes.

Eden frowned as she examined his spine part.

Doctor Benedict stood nearby watching with thinly veiled contempt. How could a mere woman understand all this? She is doing it just for show!

"Did Lucien have a serious accident when he was a child?" Eden asked calmly. "Something that injured the nerve near his spine? The damage seems old….around 50 years at least. It was partially healed but the nerve never fully recovered. Lucien must have hidden it well because his wolf strength compensated for it."

Eden gently pressed one point near Lucien's spine. Lucien's body suddenly twitched, making everyone's eyes wide.

Did Lucien body just twitch!?

Doctor Benedict's expression stiffened. "What nonsense! I have been Lucien's physician for years, I would know if there was such nerve damage. What you saw was merely a reflex. Pressing random points and calling it a diagnosis does not make you a doctor!"

"Shut up!" Elder Calveris snapped. "She's actually right. Lucien…did suffer an injury when he was a child."

Everyone gasped.

"A fall during training in the mountains damaged a nerve near his spine. But the wound healed on the surface. Lucien hid it well. His wolf strength compensated for the weakness, and he never wanted the pack to see him as flawed."

He paused briefly. "Only three people knew about it, me, my late wife… and Lucien himself."

The revelation sent a ripple of shock through the room. How did Eden guess it just by touch?

Eden was calm however. "I think when he grew older and fought that brutal pack war, the same nerve was damaged again. His wolf energy is clashing with the damaged nerve pathways. Eventually his body shut down to stop the overload."

Doctor Benedict suddenly spoke coldly. "What nonsense. Even if that were true, what could you possibly do about it? That nerve damage is irreversible."

The room fell quiet.

Even Dr. Martinez hesitated. Benedict was arrogant, but on this matter… he wasn't entirely wrong.

"I can repair it." Eden said calmly.

Rachel laughed harshly. "Repair it? Are you insane?"

Eden placed her hand lightly on Lucien's spine and her divine vision activated, tracing the broken nerve pathways inside his body.

Then she pointed to one precise spot.

"The damaged nerve is here."

But Eden suddenly frowned deeper.

"…No," she murmured.

"What is it?" Elder Calveris demanded.

Eden slowly lifted her hand from Lucien's back, her gaze turning cold. "I was right, the injury alone shouldn't have pushed him into such a deep coma. Someone has played a trick here."

Rachel's expression flickered.

At once Doctor Benedict's face turned pale as snow. "What bullshit are you talking about?"

Eden finally turned to look at him. "There is something blocking his healing. Every time his body tries to repair the damaged nerve, something interferes and forces the seizures to return. Why do you think so, Mr. Benedict?"

Elder Calveris's voice dropped dangerously low. "…Are you saying someone deliberately did this?"

Eden nodded slowly. "Yes."

Her gaze swept across the room.

"Someone here has been preventing Lucien from recovering."

Doctor Benedict's face darkened immediately.

"Are you throwing false accusations at me?" he snapped angrily. "You need proof before you throw such false allegations at me! I have been treating Sir Lucien for several decades. I have stayed by his side longer than anyone here. And now you come here for a few minutes and say I am the one playing tricks?"

Eden looked at him without the slightest fear.

"Then I'll show you the proof, if that's what you want."

What…!
