Chapter 35 - Equal Ground

Seo Yoon didn't go to him.

She never would.

But this time—

She allowed the meeting.

The location was neutral.

A private lounge on the top floor of a high-rise, far from noise, far from interruptions. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls revealed the entire city below, glowing under the night sky.

A place for people who dealt in power.

And understood it.

Seo Yoon arrived first.

Of course she did.

She stood by the window, her reflection faint against the glass. Calm. Composed. Untouchable.

The weakness from before?

Gone.

Or at least… hidden perfectly.

The door opened behind her.

She didn't turn.

"I was wondering how long you'd take."

Sang-Hyun stepped inside, his presence immediately filling the room.

"Not long enough for you to leave," he replied calmly.

A pause.

Then Seo Yoon turned.

Their eyes met again.

But this time—

There was no surprise.

No discovery.

Only awareness.

"You interfered with my business," she said directly.

"You responded."

"Don't do it again."

Sang-Hyun's gaze didn't shift.

"Make me."

Silence.

Sharp. Immediate.

Seo Yoon stepped closer.

Slow. Controlled.

Dangerous.

"You think this is entertaining?" she asked quietly.

"I think it's necessary."

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

"For what?"

Sang-Hyun didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he stepped forward too—closing the distance between them until there was barely space left.

"To understand you."

The words were simple.

But the weight behind them wasn't.

Seo Yoon held his gaze.

Unmoving.

"You don't need to understand me," she said.

"I disagree."

Another pause.

The air between them felt tighter now.

Not just tension—

Something deeper.

"You pushed too far," she said, her voice quieter this time.

Sang-Hyun didn't deny it.

"I know."

That made her hesitate.

Just slightly.

Because he wasn't defending himself.

He wasn't justifying it.

He was acknowledging it.

"That doesn't change anything," she said.

"No," he agreed.

Silence again.

Then—

"You're still standing."

Seo Yoon's expression hardened slightly.

"Of course I am."

Sang-Hyun's gaze softened—just a fraction.

Barely noticeable.

"I expected nothing less."

For a moment—

Neither of them spoke.

Two people.

Same kind of strength.

Same kind of damage.

Standing on equal ground.

Then Seo Yoon stepped back first.

"This ends here," she said.

Sang-Hyun tilted his head slightly.

"Does it?"

"Yes."

A pause.

"No."

Her eyes flashed.

"You don't get to decide that."

"And you don't get to avoid it."

Silence.

For the first time—

There was no clear winner.

Only balance.

Seo Yoon turned away slightly, her gaze returning to the city.

"This isn't a game to me," she said quietly.

Behind her, Sang-Hyun's voice came just as calm—

"It is to me."

She stilled.

Then—

"That's your mistake."

A faint smile appeared on his lips.

"Or yours."

The tension didn't break.

It didn't ease.

It stayed.

Growing.

Because neither of them would step back.

Neither of them would lose.

And neither of them had realized yet—

This wasn't just a clash of power anymore.

It was something far more dangerous. 🔥
